Our current Kindergarten students put on a fabulous performance, Year 1/2S and the Marimba group performed as well as the Year 2 dance group. We had to acvate plan B due to wet weather and move lunch inside but it didn’t stop everyone from enjoying themselves. Our next Kindergarten orientaon day will be held on Thursday December 3. Last Friday I had the pleasure of taking 20 Year 5 students to UNE for a spectacular science day. The students were treated to an amazing display of science in the chemistry lab; learnt about the importance of keeping our hands clean and washing them well in the hospital simulaon ward; determined substances and took fingerprints in the forensic department; as well as learning about the science behind choosing your “perfect match” in the psychology department. • In Chemistry we did cool experiments like explosions and there was fire everywhere and lots of big bangs. A rose was put in liquid nitrogen and when it was dropped it shattered. Oscar Pocock 5B and Chloe Brazel 5P

In the nursing department they put this funny cream on our hands to represent the germs that we have on us every day. We went into a dark room to see how many germs were on our hands using ultraviolet light. Then we had to go and clean our hands to see how much we got off. We saw the germs on our faces where we have rubbed our hands on our faces. Toby Nelson 5B

    In the Forensic de

    partment we put o

    ur

    fingerprints on glas

    s slides, then we p

    ut

    them into a jar wit

h glue and put it o

    n this

    steamer for 15 min

    utes. In the meant

    ime

    we got black powd

    fingerprints on glas

    s cups. After the 1

    minutes was up we

    got the jars and too

In Forensics there were powders that were supposed to be drugs. We used liquids called Indicators and we had to write down the results. If it came up with colours or fizzed up or nothing happened, we recorded this. There was an unknown substance and we needed to put the indicator on to find out what drug it was. Finley Pullan 5P

3T This has been a busy term so far and 3T have been learning about National Parks. The students have researched

local National Parks in preparation for the excursion in Week

    8. They are very much looking forward to visiting New

England National Park and exploring some of the walking

trails. The students are hoping for a clear day so that they

can see all the way to the ocean. They are also talking about

the visit to Dutton Trout Hatchery with much anticipation

and are hoping to be able to feed the fish. Miss Trott is also

looking forward to the excursion very much and has told the

children all about the adventures she had last year. 3T have

also been researching the Great Barrier Reef with Mrs

Wilson and have decided it is another place they would like

to visit. Miss Trott says she would love to take them on an

excursion to visit the reef, but thinks it might be a bit of a

    long drive!

1D Half way through the term already! The students are busy growing beans as part of our Science unit ‘Up, down

and all around’ and looking at toys and other artefacts

during our History unit. They have measured their heights

and recorded how much they have grown in Year 1! Lots of

birthdays have been celebrated, teeth fallen out and

replaced, and our class has also farewelled Ayana as her

family move back to East Timor. The students are exhausted

by the assessments but have all tried their best.

EAL/D This term during English as an Additional

Language/Dialect (EAL/D) classes the students have been

looking at examples of procedures and how to follow

instructions. Kindergarten students have enjoyed following

a recipe on how to make Fairy Bread, while students in Years

1 and 3 made a No Cook Play Dough. Students in Years 5

and 6 followed a more complicated recipe to make

Firecracker Sandwiches. All students were successfully able

to follow a recipe and create something yummy to eat or

play with. Students were then asked to write a procedure

on what they made including ingredients and the steps

    taken to complete the recipe.
