This is the British
comedy that we have
seen in class. A funny
film which talks about

football player.

BENDING RULES
In this film we can see that not only boys can
play football. Jess, not only wants to play
football being an Indian girl, she also plays in a
team where the rest of the girls have a different
culture. This detail instead of being an
impediment is a help to going on with her
dream.
SENSIBILITY AND
REBELLIOUSNESS
Jess is an Indian girl with a strict family. She
wants to respect them but also make her dreams
true. It’s a difficult situation and she is very
confuse, even more when she falls in love with
her coatch, who is Irish. It is a combination of
feelings that makes the film interesting.
IS IT A SPORT FILM?
The sport is the reason
which makes the film
special and different
from others. For Jess’
family is the problem
which makes Jess a rebel.
CULTURE AND GENDER
BORDERS
An Indian family which lives in England and
wants to assert their culture to their children, but
Jess, one of their children wants to live like an
English woman, be free, playing football, and
going out with her british friends and her
boyfriend (the coatch), something forbidden
because the team girls can’t go out with the
coatch.
CAN THE FILM BE
CONSIDERED
A SOCIAL PORTRAIL OF
CONTEMPORARY LONDON?
Nowadays in London and in other countries
there is a mixture of cultures because of the
inmigration. This is the reason that causes those
kind of situations.
OUR OPINION ABOUT THE
FILM
Bend it like Beckham is a film with an easy sense
of humor and also talks about teenagers’s reality.
Its a perfect film for people who are in our age
because adolescense is a stage when young
people fight for their dreams, and we identify
with Jess.
JESS AND JOE
Another topic in this film made for teenagers.
Who hasn’t been in love with a forbidden love?
We think that everybody has had a similar
experience like Jess and Joe in adolescence, an
imposible relation because your parents don’t
allow you to be with him or because he doesn’t
love you. Because of that everybody can
understand Jess situation.
IMITATION AND COPY
We can see how Jess admires Beckham and she
wants to be like him. Because of that she wants
to play football like a professional. Nowadays a
lot of young people want to copy their idols in
good and bad ways.
