Vol. 62 April 2019 No. 1

Gree ngs Brother and Sister Elks!

As I return from the NMEA Spring Conven on at Isleta, I'm proud to report we had a good showing and our Lodge received numerous posi ve comments from our District Deputy and State chairpersons in their reports. A total of 423 Elks a ended the conference. Our Lodge was reported on the floor to be +5 for membership this year, which is fantas c. Statewide membership was down 237 although this may improve as numbers are changing daily. The takeaway is that while our Lodge is doing well bringing in and keeping members ac ve, we must stay ac ve and engaged and ensure new members do the same. So, if you haven't seen a member in a while, give him or her a call and invite them back. If you haven't proposed a person for membership yet, I challenge you to be +1 in that respect this year.

We closed out our Elks fiscal year on March 31st and while I don't have the final numbers yet, all signs point to a very strong past year. This is because of YOU and YOUR con nued support. On behalf of outgoing ER, Bre Ray and myself, thank you for your loyalty and patronage to the Lodge. We have another strong cadre of officers and commi ee chairpersons this year so I hope this trend con nues. The other big part of this team is our Club Manager, Mark Sandoval and our bartenders, Heather and Tony. They are an integral part to the success of this Lodge so don't forget to give them a pat on the back and a thank you next me you see them.

Moving forward, I should point out that this year, your Chair Officers will have primary oversight over the following commi ees/efforts as follows:

Lecturing Knight (Desiree) ‐ Elks Na onal Founda on

Loyal Knight (Troy) ‐ Fraternal ac vi es including Flag Day, Americanism, Veterans, Membership (this includes Lapsa on, Indoctrina on, Inves ga on), Elks Memorial, Cerebral Palsy, C&B Trust, Bar Liaison

Leading Knight (Kirk) ‐ Drug Awareness, Public Ac vi es, Youth Ac vi es, Social & Community Welfare, PayDay Cafe Ac vi es

Exalted Ruler ‐ All of the above including Public Rela ons (Antes, Website, Facebook)

If you have ques ons or comments regarding those commi ees/ac vi es, the Commi ee Chairperson should be your primary POC with the Chair Officer as a backstop. Chair Officers are there to assist the commi ees but the primary responsibili es s ll remain with the chair. I believe this is the best approach at this me since Chair Officer can help mentor and manage those ac vi es. Commi ee Chairpersons, if you haven't already begun to assemble your team, do so now. Bring in a newer member, mentor him or her on your responsibili es so they can eventually take the helm and do the same.

We had a great month of March with events such as Mardi Gras, the JROTC benefit dinner, Installa on of 2019‐2020 Officers and our St. Pa y's Day Reverse Raffle. Thank you all for such hard work, dedica on and your generosity of both me and money. I could write a whole page just on those events. We already have a lot on the calendar for the month of April so take a moment to mentally bookmark things such as AED Training, the two Pay Day Cafes, Easter Egg coloring, Easter Egg Hunt, and such. I hope to see a good number of smiling faces come out and support your new officers at our first Lodge mee ng on April 8th as our bonus 50/50 is now well over $1000. I'm very proud of our Lodge and honored to represent you this year.

Fraternally Yours,

Tim Haight Exalted Ruler

On March 9th, many in the Lodge pulled together to support the Los Alamos JROTC with a fundraising dinner of enchiladas, beans and fixings. The dinner raised over $1,500 that was donated to this vital youth organi-zation. Thank you all for your efforts in cooking, cleaning, donating, and

eating.

In March, we added three new members to our Lodge. Please

welcome Tracy Mar n, Kyle Hobble and Leslie Johnson.

Club Notes:

Reminder: with the new credit card‐capable point of sale system, enjoying the Lodge is more accessible for members and guests who do not carry cash regularly. It can be easy to walk away a er you are done and forget to sign your tab and receipt, though. Bar Manager Mark Sandoval wants to remind us all that if a customer leaves without totaling or signing their slip it will be closed and a 20% p will be added to the charge.

He also reminds us all that when the bartenders are busy, serving drinks has priority over the lo ery games and there may be mes when the lo ery is shut down during events or busy mes. The Lo ery has been a great addi on to the Club experience for some members, but the bartenders must be free to serve drinks first.

Welcome New Officers!

2nd Annual Los Alamos Elks St. Patty’s Day Reverse Raffle and

Potluck

We had a great St. Patty’s Day event, with lots of food, fun and chances to win.

This year the final winners were Heather Campbell, Warren Finch, Rusty Phillips, Ryan Stothard, and Eppie

Trujillo. Thank you to all who supported this great fund-raiser, where we raised roughly $2,000 for Lodge

Improvements. A special thanks to Rusty Phillips, who donated all his winnings back to the kitty and to the other

winners who gave back money.

Mardi Gras festivities proved a great night!

Who can complain about amazing poboys and great entertainment?

My fellow Elks, I went ahead and created an Easter candy wish list for all 3 organiza ons. Just follow this link.

h ps://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2Z9OPHZ29VTMU?ref_=wl_share

Assuming 3 pieces of candy per egg or 1 toy we need 49,500 pieces of candy and 3500 toys to fill 20,000 eggs. I have already purchased 12,575 pieces of candy, 45 boxes, for the lodge. There are 161 items outstanding. I have a goal of the Elks coming up with another 45 items. You may no ce that there is no chocolate in the list. It just melts and makes a mess out there. If you, the Elk members and the other 2 organiza ons can hit this list, we will be all set. Please consider it a sugges on though. I don't expect everyone to shop from this list. Please place all candy orders no later than the 8th of April to ensure delivery by the 12th. The 13th is the egg stuffing party at Sta on 3 in White Rock.

Drop shipped goods by the Elks Lodge or ship to me at:

Alpine Financial Partners C/O Ben Bouman 2610 Trinity Drive #10 Los Alamos, NM 87544

I'm looking forward to it!
