Dear Friends of Bequia,
We wish to thank once again those whose generous support made our New Year’s Eve Celebration 2009/10 possible. We are pleased that everyone enjoyed the magnificent show, and that a number cruise ships, including Club Med, made a special point of being in Admiralty Bay on Old Year’s Night.
Our grateful thanks also go, as always, to all those who take responsibility for every aspect of our New Year’s Eve Celebration. From the ordering of the fireworks and arranging their shipment, import and clearance, to the complex and demanding task of setting off the display itself, we acknowledge not only the Ministry of Finance for their Duty Free concession, the Police, Customs, and our Clearing Agents, but also the invaluable contribution of our small team who work to ensure that others can enjoy the New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacular each year.
Our final accounting for this year is now complete and we have managed to stay in the black, with a reserve of EC$523.08. However, in light of the increasing difficulty of raising funds within the community and the fact that the burden of contribution has fallen on a very small number of loyal and generous supporters, we have regretfully decided that we are not in a position to plan for another New Year’s Eve Celebration for 2010/11.
We hope that future years will see the revival of interest in our Fireworks Display which has brought so much pleasure to so many, and helped to make Bequia a place where people young and old delight in seeing out the Old Year and bringing in the New.
