We will be combining all aspects into the one assembly. All students from K-6 will be present to see the announcement of academic, cultural and sporting awards, as well as next year’s student leaders. Please make this date available on your calendars. Future of Beresfield Public School We are beginning the process of writing the next 3-year plan for Beresfield Public School. If you have a suggestion or comment about where you would like to see the school develop, we would love to hear from you! Please provide your comments by phoning on 4966 1146, emailing at [email protected] , writing a note or speaking in person. At next Monday’s P&C meeting I’ll be discussing this topic – please come along. The P&C’s Interrelate Program Our well organised and hard working P&C have provided two valuable events in the last week. The Interrelate Program had its biggest turnout ever. Those who went will attest to the way in which the presenter puts everyone at ease with her humorous but informative delivery of what can be an awkward topic. Students from Beresfield and Woodberry (and their parents and caregivers) were entertained as they learnt about tricky subjects like puberty and reproductive organs. After a great success, this program will be booked again for next year. The P&C Spooky Disco Everyone looked fabulous in their costumes for our Term 4 Spooky Disco. Students who turned up had a great time dancing and playing the games that ‘Chris the DJ’ had organised. The Spooky Disco became spookier as the lightning and thunder thrashed overhead, and of course, the rain pelted down right on cue for the primary pickup! Thanks to the parents who manned the canteen and entry table and the teachers who supervised. Transition to Francis Greenway High School Year 6 walked to Francis Greenway High School yesterday as part of the transition program into Year 7. ‘High School for a Day’ gave the students an insight into what school will be like next year. They moved from room to room with each bell, ordered from the canteen, and met students from other primary schools that will be future classmates. Coming up is the Year 6 Aboriginal Students Transition day on Wednesday 30 th November from 11.30-2.30pm. Also on Wednesday 30 th November will be the information evening and disco from 5:15pm to 8:30pm.The Orientation Day will be on Monday 5 th December from 9:30am - 12:30pm. PUBLIC SPEAKING FINALS Our school recently held the public speaking finals to celebrate the hard work and practice of all of our students’ talking skills. The students in the final progressed from class finals, then to stage finals and lastly to the school final. The judges had the difficult task of choosing a winner from each grade. The final winners were: Madison Fraser – Kindergarten Maddison Meredith – Year 1 Paris Wilson - Year 2 Daniel Hunt – Year 3 Kacee Bessant – Year 4 Dylan Atkin – Year 5 Ryleigh Avery – Year 6 The judges also awarded a K-2 encouragement award to Paris Wilson and The Mrs Mac’s Perpetual Trophy to Dylan Atkin. Congratulations to all of the students who took part in the public speaking program. Whether that was at the class stage or the final stage, you should all be proud of yourselves for your hard work and confidence. Rohan Carlin On Tuesday the 1st November the students were invited to wear a crazy hat. Here are a few of the ‘crazy’ designs created by some of Beresfield’s students. Thank you to all those students who participated and took part in the fun of the day. A total of $178.25 was raised as a result. Thank You Miss Sloane

FRUIT TASTING DAY Students at Beresfield Public School had an extra bounce in their steps last Thursday. As part of our whole school commitment to wellbeing all classes were given the opportunity to taste lots of fresh summer fruits that were purchased locally from The Fruit Shack. The children appeared to love the cherries, watermelon, pineapple, kiwi fruit, strawberries and rockmelons they sampled. A big thanks goes out to our fabulous P & C who funded the entire day! In good health, Alanna Wallace (for the Wellbeing Committee) FRUIT & VEG WEEK Last Thursday, 3W taste tested exotic fruits. Firstly, we described the fruit’s colour, texture and smell. Then we tasted it! We then had to describe the taste, which was hard to do. Finally, Mrs Wiedermann blindfolded us and we were given one of the fruits to taste and say which one it was. 3W

THE NEWCASTLE PERMANENT PRIMARY MATHEMATICS COMPETITION Year 5 and 6 students at Beresfield PS had the opportunity to participate in the Newcastle Permanent Mathematics Competition with some pleasing results. This competition gives our students the chance to compete against over 17000 other primary students in the Hunter and Northern Regions of NSW. The assessment allows for students to practise problem solving. The students that do well in these tests are those that comprehend the problem well and apply clever and efficient techniques to the solving of problems. This year we had three students achieve a distinction result. Congratulations to Tiara Rose Spacek-Blanc, Madelyne Pegler and Zoe Pirie. We also had 18 students achieve merit awards and these students were; Morgan Brown, Isabelle Davenport, Khye Heron, Joe Broderick, Emma Poole, Dylan Barr, Kimberley Simmons, James Hunt, Liam Delaney, Rhys Lloyd, Mason Bender, John Schiemer, Dakota Wells, Ethan Gallagher, Breeanna Delaney, Dean Irwin, Aimee Budden, and Jordan King. Congratulations to these students and all that participated in the competition. Your efforts have increased your mathematical potential. Rohan Carlin

INFANTS MINI SPORTS CARNIVAL A beautiful sunny day, following Thursday’s rain, greeted the Friday morning of our Infants Mini Carnival. Dampness underfoot at Tarro saw events moved to the school playground where children enthusiastically participated in House cheers and races. Many parents came to cheer on athletes and join their children for recess. A big thank you to parents who “officiated” at the finish line and rewarded participants with stickers. Lynne Connell Thanu 1C “On Friday Beresfield K-2 children had a sport carnival in the playground. Some mums and dads came to watch. First we did cheers. Then we did running races. After we did that we did marble on a spoon. Lastly we did skipping and then we had a picnic with mums and dads.”
