BERGEN COUNTY DENTAL SOCIETY

Who can remember, back in September, when you thought the holidays were so far ahead, there was plenty of time to get everything done at a leisurely and uncomplicated pace?

Then, you stare at the calendar, having already said good-bye to Halloween and Thanksgiving, and realize the holidays were approaching as quickly as an oncoming train!

When you read this, the Christmas, Hanukah and New Year celebrations will be a thing of the past; yet another holiday to cherish the memories we spend with family and friends.

A few months ago, I received a letter from Dr. Brian Ullmann, a prosthodontist in Ho-Ho-Kus, and former professor of mine at Fairleigh Dickinson University Dental School. His letter told the story of the wonderful humanitarian things being done at Eva’s Village and requested some assistance in obtaining dentist-volunteers. I’m sure you’ll agree what a phenomenal service this is to those people who aren’t fortunate enough to have similar lives as ours. I was so impressed and humbled by his efforts, I mentioned that I would do anything I could to try and publicize Eva’s Village. If you notice, our front-page table of contents now is emblazoned with the Eva’s Village logo. I have also asked him to attend our Legislative night meeting in January to address our members and state officers to hear directly from him of all the things Eva’s Village has done and is planning to do.

I urge all of you to attend our January meeting. Lets extend a warm Bergen County welcome to Dr. Ullmann and offer him (and Eva’s Village) all our support and praise.

My name is Brian Ullmann and I am a prosthodontist in Bergen County. In addition to my private practice, I direct a free dental clinic for the homeless and poor at

Eva’s Village in Paterson. The clinic currently operates one day a week on Wednesdays, with plans to expand over the next few years when we move to a brand-new facility.

I am looking for volunteers to help in this worthwhile and rewarding effort. Services we provide include restorative dentistry, prophylaxes, home care instruction, exodontias, removable prostheses and oral cancer screening. I am reaching out now to spread the word for this much needed service. A few dentists willing to commit to one day per month could make an enormous difference. In addition to restorative dentists we need oral surgeons, but anyone skilled in exodontia and alveloplasties would be a welcome addition to the team.

For the past several years this effort has been supported by private donations, including a $40,000 grant from Delta Dental. This covers the salary one chair-side assistant plus the cost of supplies, maintenance and prosthodontic lab fees.

I am committed to this project, but I do need help. Please do not hesitate to call me if you are interested or know someone who may be willing to get involved. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,R. Brian Ullmann, D.D.S., M.S.D.313 Warren AvenueHo-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423201-236-6443 (H)201-444-9777 (O)551-427-8493 (C)[email protected]
