Congratulations to all of our families who won their class artwork. So much time and care went into ensuring these were something so worthy of winning. I hope they now sit proudly in pride of place in your houses. To everyone who visited our Art Show we appreciate your support and look forward to making this a yearly event. It was great to have our many groups perform on this day in the CoolZone and a special thanks to the teachers who organised dancers, choirs and performers. If you have not purchased your child’s art and would like to it is not too late; please contact the front office to arrange this. Congratulations also goes to our students who have gained places in a Selective High School (either Gosford or Gorokan). Some of these students may not take up their offer but have all made us proud for attaining such a wonderful achievement. We congratulate Isabella Pex, Sophie Gentle and Malachi Foster and wish them all luck. Congratulations also to the large group of Berkeley Vale students who found out recently that they have been accepted into the GATs (Alpha) class at Berkeley Vale Campus for 2019. This is definitely the newsletter for congratulations as many of our students participated in sporting events, debating, spelling bee finals, handing over of the TLLC AECG message stick, naming of the Aboriginal garden to name a few. It is exciting to see that so many of our students take up so many of the additional extra curricula activities we offer and excel with the opportunity. If it wasn’t for the amazing staff that constantly go out of their way for your children these activities would not be available. To the amazing staff who organised our exceptional K-2 Athletics Fun Day…thank you. It was an enormous success and every child had a great day. Thank you to the parents who came along to watch, support or join in, we appreciated it and so too did the children. If you have any suggestions or ideas how we can enhance this day we would love to hear as we are always aiming to improve. Narelle Armour - Principal KS AND KA RUMBALARA EXCURSION On Monday 6 August, KS and KA went on their first excursion to Girrakool at Somersby. We got to play games to learn about the needs of animals and plants, go on a bushwalk and be environmental detectives using magnifying glasses. When we returned from our bushwalk we had a bush picnic with all of our Australian native animal toys. We had a great day! BVPS SCHOOL UNIFORM The school community of Berkeley Vale has always taken pride in the school uniform. The school would like to thank the students and parents who have continued to display respect towards our uniform and have followed the existing BVPS School Uniform Policy. Our School Uniform Policy continues to, and will always, align strongly with the Department of Education Uniform Policy. In light of recent changes to the Department School Uniform policy, our school has reviewed and modified the policy to adhere to these changes. The new BVPS School Uniform Policy will be presented at the next P&C meeting. Berkeley Vale Public School will be providing many opportunities for students to be rewarded and acknowledged if they wear the full, correct uniform. SEMESTER 2 STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL Thank you to the outgoing Semester 1 Student Representative Council members. Your contribution and positive attitude was greatly appreciated.

PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE The Premier’s Spelling Bee was undertaken this year during the first three weeks of Term 3. The class competition was run during the first two weeks and the lists were very exciting. They included the categories of The Arts, Food and Nutrition, Science and Technology, Plants and Animals and Geography. The Spelling Bee had many students participate a across Stage 2 and Stage 3, with a total of 30 students making it to the finals. The Spelling Bee Stage Finals were completed on Monday 6 August. The students competing showed great knowledge of the spelling lists. All of the students should be commended on their confidence to accept the challenge of spelling in front of the whole school. It was a tough battle which saw Kydan Riddle and Dylan Smith from Stage 2 go through to the next round. The winners of Stage 3 were Aiden Hall and Isabella Pex. They will be competing at Peats Ridge Public School on Friday 14 September. If you see the students at school, please wish them luck!

ART SHOW Last week Berkeley Vale Public School held our very first Art Exhibition. Every class created beautifully unique whole class canvases and individual artwork. It was an amazing showcase of the artistic talent we have at our school. It was lovely to see so many families come and celebrate our student’s artistic talents. We would like to thank Grant Molony for donating one of his beautiful artworks that was auctioned on the day. If you would like to see more of Grants artworks see his website https://www.krop.com/grantmolony/#/

MAKEY MAKEY WORKSHOP Makey Makey is a very exciting thing. Also simple if you’ve done it before. You get to cut out a controller, and decorate it with copper tape, and all things that help with the electricity. I personally thought it was an experience to remember. Makey Makey is connected by wires that lead to the computer to the earth and that are obviously connected to the Makey Makey. You can go on Scatch and Coding Games and use the paper controller to control the games. We got to test it by going on a piano coding game and then got to play Donkey Kong. But the thing about Makey Makey it’s not too hard or too easy! Written by Talieghia 5R The Makey Makey incursion was a fun computer coding device where you plug it into the computer and into basically anything like a banana and it goes up, down, left, right, space and click. We had lots of fun when we connected it to a person and when we hi-fived it played the piano. We also made a controller and played Donkey Kong. We could do all this by making a circuit.
