Innovation systems in agriculture are critical to the fight against hunger & sustainable use of natural resources
Most public domain agricultural information not yet widely accessible
New types of research, organisations, and collaboration create new demands
Improving the way the partners collaborate requires greater access to, and more effective exchange of, information
Rapid agricultural innovation is knowledge-intensive and depends on access to information
CIARD challenges

CIARD vision Organizations that create and possess public
agricultural research information, share and disseminate it more widely
CIARD partners will coordinate their efforts, promote common formats, adopt open systems
Create a global network of public collections of information
Coherence in information management will increase efficiency & reduce duplication
“To make agricultural research information and knowledge truly accessible to all”

• To strengthen access and paths to accessibility of nationally generated agricultural knowledge
• To build capacity in national systems in Africa to develop the institutional and infrastructural environment necessary for the capture, preservation and accessibility and use of their own national agricultural knowledge
• To complement existing global and national access to research information programmes
• To use GARA as a platform for preservation and disaster recovery, and for the long term protection of knowledge which might again become inaccessible
