PRINCIPAL’S REPORT NEWSLETTER N0.14 17TH MAY 2012
ACCESS TO SCHOOL
DURING REFURBISHMENT
PROGRAM
I am pleased to report that our main
building refurbishment program will
commence during the last week of
May. In preparation for this we will
be relocating our administration
offices, sickbay and Principal‟s Office
to Room 5 and adjacent rooms as
from next
Monday for the
duration of the
refurbishment
program (until
the end of Term
3). Our assistant
principals‟ offices
will be located in
our new BER building office area
during this time.
Access to the main building will be
restricted due to OH&S reasons
during this time. The builders will
require exclusive use of the top half
of our main car park – closest to the
main building – meaning that we will
have very limited car park space for
staff in the main car park. This will
also impact on users of our disabled
car park spaces. Lynne Brenner will
be contacting all families in this
situation before Monday, with
specific instructions on their use of
our disabled car park facilities.
As from next Monday 21st May
2012, access to our temporary
administration office will be via
Room 5 – the outside entrance
door. A map is attached displaying
routes that can be taken from our
various school entrance points to
Room 5. Debbie Cusack is arranging
with Andrew Drake who is one of
our parents who has kindly donated
his sign writing services to repaint
our existing school signs with
instructions on where Room 5
(temporary Admin. office area) is
located and how to get there. This
signage will be completed
before Monday.
Please note that our front entrance
to the school in Mansfield Street,
will be locked and no entry to the
school can be made from our front
main entrance as it will form part of
the building site. Importantly also,
access to Room 5 cannot be made
by walking around the front of the
main building (see attached map) as
this area will be sealed off as part of
the building site.
Due to the possible movement of
construction vehicles, pedestrians
should not enter the school grounds
through the staff car park gates.
Pedestrian access is available via the
Cyril Molyneux Reserve car park.
I acknowledge that the building
project will cause us all some
inconvenience in the coming
months, but I am sure that when the
project is finished we will agree that
it has been well worth the trouble.
If you have any queries regarding
our temporary arrangements over
the next four months please do not
hesitate to contact us immediately.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT COMTINUED….. . FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Are you sure that the project will be completed by the end of term 3?
A. As sure as I can be! The project is basically an internal refurbishment and all indications that I have confirm a
very high probability that our project will be completed by the end of term 3. Nonetheless, we will keep our
fingers crossed!

NAPLAN
This week our Years 3 and 5
students have completed their
NAPLAN tests in Literacy and
Numeracy. Results of these tests
will be forwarded to the school and
parents later this
year. The reports
will describe your
child‟s particular
skills in Reading,
Writing, Language
Conventions and
Numeracy. The report will also
show how your child performed in
relation to National Minimum
Standards. These describe minimum
acceptable standards for students
across Australia.
We will inform parents via the
newsletter of the arrangements for
forwarding these reports.
CRE TRAINING
There is always a need for volunteer
teachers and helpers for CRE classes
in local primary schools. All
volunteers are required to
undertake training to prepare them
for their involvement in delivering
the CRE program. For interested
parties a training session will be
offered in the Hampton Park area
on Saturday 26th May. This session
will be taken by Robyn
Renahan-Miles. If you are interested
please contact Robyn by email at
phone 0418357925. Robyn is also
happy to organise training at
different times to suit volunteers.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL
DAY
Tomorrow we are celebrating
National Walk Safely to School Day.
This is an annual national event
when all Primary School children are
encouraged to walk
and commute safely
to school. We will
celebrate the day
with a buddy activity
where students will
participate in a walk around the
school with their buddies and then
eat their lunch together. All
students will also be given a piece of
fruit and a mini pack of tissues.
These activities combine to
encourage „Healthy Activity, Healthy
Eating and Healthy Habits.‟ The
Mayor of the City of Casey,
Councillor Sam Aziz, visited our
school last week to encourage our
students to take part in this national
initiative.
“Lottie the Lollipop Lady” will be
making an appearance at our Collins
Crescent Crossing before school in
recognition of this day.
STUDENT HEALTH
We have received information from
a family of a senior student that
their child has had a possible case of
scabies. Scabies is a highly
contagious parasitic skin infestation
characterised by thin, slightly
elevated wavy grey-white lines. The
incubation period is two to six
weeks before itching occurs in a
person not previously exposed to
scabies, however symptoms develop
more quickly if a person is
re-exposed, often within one to four
days. Scabies is transmitted by skin
contact with an infected person or
contact with towels, bed clothes etc.
The mites that cause the condition
cannot jump or fly but the adult
mites may survive off the skin for up
to 48 hours in room conditions. For
diagnosis and treatment families
should see their family doctor. A
child with scabies needs to be
excluded from school until the day
after appropriate treatment has
commenced.

MONDAY MORNING
ASSEMBLY
We have noticed that an increasing
number of our students are arriving
late to our Monday assembly and
not joining their class. Children are
requested to wait at
the side of the
assembly area if they
arrive whilst the
national anthem is
being sung but are
required to then make
their way to their class
group. We thank
parents for their support in ensuring
that students arrive on time but if
this is not possible they join their
class for the remainder of assembly.

St Margaret’S interSchool netball challenge
Congratulations to all of the children who were involved in the St Margaret‟s Interschool
Netball Challenge last Thursday 10th May 2012 and Friday 11th May 2012. After many weeks of training the 3
teams had a very successful day competing against nine other schools from the local area.
Our girls team, Tanisha 5T, Alyssa 5D, Maddy 6W, Chelsea 6W, Amy 5C, Brodie 5T, Monique 5T, Britney
6W and Briannah 6W were fabulous and came equal eighth on the day after
coming up against many tough competitors.
Our mixed 2 team, Hayley 6K, Fischer 6W, Lilli 6W, Dion 6W, Ashleigh 6N, Jarn 6K, Ebony 6K, Sahra 5C,
Zoe 5D, Zac 6W and Jake 5T also had a most successful day. They came equal third after their nine games. Their game against
the Berwick Lodge Mixed 1 team was fantastic and played in super spirit.
Our mixed 1 team was undefeated on the Thursday beating all nine other schools comprehensively. As a result they returned
on Friday to play in the finals. Their semi was a tough, close game against Berwick Fields P.S. After coming from behind at half
time the team won 7-6. As a result they made it into the final. In the final, the team played St Catherine‟s Catholic School. It
was another close game at the beginning but after half time our team stepped up the pace and defeated St
Catherine‟s 9-5.
Congratulations to Kara 6N, Clayton 6N, Stephanie 6P, Jordan 6N, Grace 6N, Miles 6P, Jemma 6K, and
Shenelle 6N on becoming the champions for 2012. Clayton was also named best and fairest for the finals
competition which was a great honour.
A very big thank you to the many parents and grandparents who assisted with car pooling, team supervision
and supporting our teams on the day. It was a pleasure to be part of a wonderful group of children who
proudly represented our school with outstanding
behaviour at all times.
