For ?eaoe and independence of the Peop/es of Indochina

(Palais des CongrCs, Versailles, February 11-13, 1972)

Dei.s. Friends,

This letter is a cull for a strong participation in the 1:orldAssembly in karis, February 11-l3, 1972.

The moment has come to organise a new world conference in prctestagainst the US war in Indochina, for peace and independence of theIndochinese peoples.

'Ir. Nixon still tries to give the impression that he wants peace, that he wants 1.43 end this war, which the American people opposes solong. But all his actions aim at the prolongation of the war. Inorder to be reelected he must seem to want peace, but in reality hehopes to be reelected on a programme of vague promises so that, duringhis second term he can continue the war. Nixon-Thieu means a long warand endless sufferings for the peoples of Indochina.

approximately how many persons will participate from you. ';!e ask thoseof you who met; french visas to ;:pply immediately at the FrcisLh km/Jassyor Consulate in your townXe urge you to start the campaign immediatelyfor a large participation in the t:orld Assembly in Paris, which shouldbecome the biggest world manifestation so far for this purpose.

--This conference early 1972 will curry grout significance. t:e shall haveto agree about the general outlines of our campaign in 1972, which willbe a crucial year. Nixon continues 0 ,4 escalation of the war in the tech-nological field though withdrawing a substantial part of the U forces. Our reply must be an escalation of our efforts and support to the DRV,PLO, FUNK and the Lao Patriotic Front. Our solidarity must express itselfin action and we must do much more than so far, broaden the basis of themovement and strengthen contacts with our US friends to support them.

All forces of good wall in the world must work together to stop the war,end the sufferings of the peoples of Indochina and restore peace - truepeace with independence and no foreign interference - to start reconstruct-ion. •

This requires still greater efforts. Le must show that we live up to ourresponsibilities, our words and our noble aims.

Hoping for your active participation in this undertaking and in the WorldAssembly in Paris, we send: you all our good wishes.

The Stockholm Conference on Vietnam is the only existing internationalliaison Committee for co-ordination of action and protest against thewar in Indochina, for information on the different aspects of the warand its background and fur support of the Indochinese -peoples in theirstruggle for freedom ?, independence and peace. The basic principle ofthis co-operation - and the explanation of its success - is that or-ganisations and people ShonlOome together - without consideration ofdifferences on other subjects, such as political ideology, religion, social or economic status, nationality, race,'etc. - te help stoppingthis genocidal US war against the peoples of Indochina. The aim is that
