Welcome to the #BESTSUMMEREVER!

The Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry hosts several camps every

summer: Traditional Camp held at 5 locations including the Wardle Family Y

in Port Royal as well as Aqua Camp (NEW), Specialty Camps, Kiddie Camp, and

CIT Camp for teens (rising 8th through10th graders) who want to be Y

summer camp counselors one day.

Registration: YMCA members can register early for summer camps: April 22-23,

2019. On April 24, registration will be open to the general public on a first

come-first serve basis. Note that many of our specialty camps have

limited enrollment so registering early is recommended.

Registration process: Visit beaufort-jasperymca.org and click ‘register for a

program’ tab, choose ‘camp’ to begin the registration process. The Y will not be

responsible for any mistakes made from online registration. We will have a laptop

in the Y lobby and a front desk staff member available to assist in online registration

for your convenience. You may also register in person at the Y front desk.

Healthy Eating: All Y camps include breakfast and a hot lunch. If packing your

child’s lunch we ask that you keep it healthy with whole grains, fruit, veggies,

100% juice or water. Sample breakfast is blueberry muffin, orange juice, nonfat

chocolate milk, or lowfat milk. Sample lunch is baked penne, sweet grapes,

broccoli, nonfat chocolate milk or lowfat milk.

Financial assistance: Financial assistance is available for qualified individuals for

Traditional and Kiddie Camp only. Applications are found on our website under the

‘join’ tab. You must apply for financial assistance & receive a status email from Y

staff BEFORE registering for camp. Please allow 7-10 business days for financial

assistance paperwork to be processed. If you register for camp before your

financial assistance has been approved, then you will be charged camp cancellation

fees and you will need to register again (keep in mind that if camp is full with a

wait list, when you start registration over you will be put on the wait list).

Camp Locations: Y camps are run out of various sites in Beaufort and Jasper

counties. The Wardle Family YMCA in Port Royal is our main site location.

Traditional Camp at the Wardle Family Y will be hosted here for all ages EXCEPT

campers who are rising 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. Because of limited space,

these campers will be housed at Port Royal Elementary Monday - Thursday in

camps occurring from June 10 - July 25 (all other dates, they will be at the YMCA).

CAMP FEES:

Online camp enrollment fee for traditional and kiddie camp: $15/child. In person registration: $20/child

Traditional Camp: $100 Y member-$125/week non-member

Kiddie Camp: $100 Y member—$125/week non-member

CIT Camp: $30/week

Aqua Camps: $125 Y member - $150/week non-member. There is no registration fee for Aqua Camps.

Specialty Camps: $125 Y member—$245/week non-member depending on the camp. There is no registration fee for Specialty Camps.

Add-On “Extra Hours” for those in Aqua & Specialty Camps:

$30/week (space is limited)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

All Y Summer Camp payments are made through a pre-authorized checking account or credit card draft.

You may choose your draft date, however all draft dates must be chosen at least 7 days prior to the

start date. THERE ARE NO PAYMENTS MADE AT THE Y FRONT DESK after the initial registration

(no exceptions). If you do not wish to provide us with your bank information, you may pay all camp fees

at once at the front desk or online.

Changes: $10 change fee per child per session for any camp. You can change your camp week online.

Changes must be made a minimum of 10 days prior to the start of the camp.

Cancellations: Cancellations must be made a minimum of 10 days prior to the start of the camp & you

must contact the Y to cancel. There is a $10 cancellation fee per child per session. There are no refunds

or credits for camps registered for, but not attended.

Traditional Camp: Youth in traditional camp will participate in a series of educational activities tied in with summer

camp fun. Additionally, in partnership with Beaufort County Library, all youth will participate in the Summer @ Your Library

Program where youth will read daily to earn prizes! All work and no play? Camp activities include: Swimming 2-3 days per

week, nature activities, gym games, camp songs, group/camper choice activities like field games, dance, yoga, gaga pit, and

more! Rising Kindergarten through rising 7th graders.

Fee: $100 M/week Drop off: 7-8:20 am • Pick Up: 4-5:30 pm

Session Traditional Camp Themes:

1 We are Family: The first week of camp will be all about reuniting with previous campers, meeting new campers, and

making our family stronger. Campers will engage in lots of teambuilding activities, have meaningful Y-chats, and end

the week with a “family reunion assembly”.

2 Wild Wild West: Campers will explore the history, culture and people of the western United States. Come prepared for

an adventure. Expect to dress western, try line dancing at a hoe down, and more.

3 Wacky Tacky Y: This week will be filled mix & match, stripes, opposites, polka dots, and much more!

4 Olympics: Get ready for the YMCA 2019 Olympics. Campers will compete in a variety of field and indoor activities.

Broadcasting their athletic talents and bringing home the gold medal!

5 Water, Water Everywhere!: What better way to enjoy the warm summer than playing in the water! This week we

will enjoy water play fun and also look at all the ways we use water.

6 Color War: Each age group of campers will represent a specific color. Get ready for some colorful competitions like

creating a color mascot, coloring and drawing competition, and a color run!

7 Fear Factor: Campers must decide if they have the guts & determination to face their fear while outpacing the competition.

8 Camps Y’s Got Talent: Calling all STARS! Let your inner performer shine through acting games, magic, singing, and

dancing. We will build confidence and have fun!

9 Superheroes: Enjoy a week full of sports! Learn sportsmanship, strategies, and how to play as a team. Even support

your favorite teams (football, baseball, basketball etc.) by wearing your gear.

10 Support Your Sport: Enjoy a week full of sports! Learn sportsmanship, strategies and how to play as a team. Even

11 When I Grow Up: Campers will explore and learn about a variety of career paths and what it takes to be succeed.

Rising 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Graders in Traditional Camp Because of limited space, campers attending Traditional Camp June 10—July 25 will be housed at Port Royal

Elementary School Monday—Thursday (all other dates they will be at the YMCA). Please note, campers will walk on

a 5-7 minute trail to Port Royal Elementary, with the exception of rainy weather or high heat index days when we will

transport by YMCA bus.

Drop Off Procedures: 7am –8am, you may drop off your child at YMCA. If you are dropping off after 8 am you must drop

off at Port Royal Elementary (PRE).

Pick-Up Procedures: Campers will arrive back at the YMCA for swimming on a daily basis at 1:30pm. If you need to

pick-up your child prior to 1:30 pm, pick-up at PRE. Pick-up at the YMCA will take place from 4-5:30pm.

Fridays: Every Friday camp will take place at the YMCA, therefore all drop-off and pick-up will be at the YMCA.

Specialty Camps: All specialty camps take place at the YMCA. If you register your rising 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grader

for a specialty camp and “Extra Hours” they will be at the Y in Port Royal. 4

Kiddie Camp: This camp is for our youngest campers starting at age 3 through age 4. The program consists of daily

swim time, arts and crafts, story time, playtime, nature walks, nap/rest-time, preschool activities, and more. Children must

be fully toilet-trained. (Please provide an AM & PM snack, a nap mat ,and blanket for your kiddie camper.

Fee: $100 M/week Drop off: 7-8:20 am • Pick Up: 4-5:30 pm

CIT Camp: Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) is ONLY for

teens (rising 8th through 10th graders) who want to be

Y summer camp counselors one day. There are a limited

number of spots available for this camp program.

Candidates must submit a CIT application and go through

an interview process in order to be considered. CIT’s will

be required to attend all pre-camp staff trainings/

meetings (typically held on nights/weekends). CIT’s will

get their own time throughout the day to swim, shoot

hoops, or exercise in the fitness center.

Fee: $30/week

Aqua Camps: Perfecting your skills, becoming a stronger swimmer, and having fun around the pool all

summer, join us for this NEW Camp Experience! Campers must be able to pass the Y swim test BEFORE enrolling

in this camp, please see Lifegaurd staff if your child needs to take the swim test. Campers will receive a minimum

of 1 hour personalized swim skill instruction daily from certified swim instructions, partake in the below theme-

based water activities and challenges, and campers will be able to hang out in their “Aqua Cabana”. All Aqua

Camps run from 8:30 am-1 pm (earliest drop off is 7:30). This camp includes snacks, lunch, and plenty of WATER!

Extra hours (1-5:30 pm) are an additional $30/week per child (space is limited). Extra hours include traditional

summer camp activities such as field and gym games, camp songs, arts and craft.

Fee: $125 M-$150 NM/week

Y-TRI This camp is designed to introduce youth to multi-sport training in a positive fun environment. All youth receive instruction in swimming, cycling, and running. Time will be split in the Y Cycling studio, running on the trail, and at the pool. Proper technique, safety, pacing, and sportsmanship are emphasized.

Session 3 (June 17-21)

NATURE IN WATER Campers will learn about marine life, experience snorkeling, and learn about scuba diving from our local experts! We will take a field trip to the Port Royal Sound Foundation to see what can be found in our local waters.

Session 4 (June 24-28)

WATER WARS AQUA Individual and team competitions all week long! It’s not all about aqua competitions, put on your “swim” caps too.

Session 5 (July 1-5)

Session 6 (July 8-12)

AQUA HERO’S WEEK Let's be safe around water! Learn what it's like to be a Jr. lifeguard and how you can be a water watcher too! Here from special guests during the week and learn what they do to make our community safe around the water! We will wrap up the week with an Echo Dolphin Tour on the Prince of Tides.

Session 7 (July 15-19)

Y’S GOT AQUA TALENT Let's see your talents in the water. From aqua dancing to showing off your swimming techniques, who can swim the fastest or perform the best?

Session 8 (July 22-26)

AQUA SCIENCE Given different challenges, campers will need to work together to solve. From barnstorming to construction, will their projects withhold the final tests?

Session 9 (July 29-Aug.2)

AQUA SUMMER CAMP HIGHLIGHTS Come relive your favorite 2019 Aqua Camp highlights all week long, and say good by to your friends. We will be doing an activity from each of the prior weeks.

Specialty Camps: All Specialty Camps run from 8:30 am-1 pm (earliest drop off is 7:30) and include lunch,

unless noted otherwise. Extra hours (1-5:30 pm) are an additional $30/per week per child (space is limited).

Extra hours include swimming, field and gym games, camp songs and arts and craft.

TRAVEL CAMP 7:30AM-2:00pm: Monday: Star Castle (roller skating, laser tag, lunch provided). Tuesday:

Charleston Aquarium (pack a lunch). Wednesday: Station 300 (bowling, arcade, lunch provided). Thursday:

Oatland Wildlife (pack a lunch) Friday: Eco Dolphin Tour (lunch provided). Ages:

7-12. Fee: $220 M/$245 NM

Session 2 (June 10-14)

4-H INNOVATORS Going green is an excellent opportunity for youth to explore their creativity and pave the way for

a better tomorrow. Campers will engage in a variety of fun, hands on 4-H activities that encourage sustainable living

including Solar House building, Junk Drawer Robotics, Water Resources, Healthy Lifestyles, & more!

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125M/$150 NM

TENNIS CAMP Campers will be sent off to Scheper Tennis Academy this week, located at the tennis courts in

downtown Beaufort. From beginner to advanced tennis players, no matter what your skill level, everyone will

receive professional instruction while having fun. Please bring your racket if you have one, if not one will be

provided.

Ages: 5-12. Fee: $125M/$150 NM

Session 3 (June 17—21)

BASKETBALL CAMP Join Coach Woods on the court to enhance your basketball skill level in dribbling, passing,

shooting and defense. You will even play basketball scrimmages so bring your “A” game!

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125M/$150 NM

PAINTS N PARADISE Campers will visit Ms. Candice DIY art studio in downtown Beaufort featuring pottery painting,

mosaic art, storytime and much more! So roll up your sleeves and get ready for a paradise experience.

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $175M/$200 NM

Session 4 (June 24—June 28)

INDOOR SOCCER CAMP Campers will develop sportsmanship and teamwork while improving their skill level in passing,

dribbling, learning soccer techniques and improving their well being in strength and conditioning. This camp is led by

coach Bruce, an experienced soccer player who looks forward to building relationships but most of all having fun!

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125M/$150 NM

MAD SCIENTIST Campers, grab your white coat and crazy wig! At this camp, you will become a “mad” scientist, doing

hands on science experiments and discuss the scientific method.

CAMP DIVA Back by popular demand, from creating jewelry, manicures, art, decorating cupcakes, and a day out on the

town with a picnic lunch and ice cream, this is a camp for all of your camp divas!

Session 6 (July 8-12)

THING-A-MA-JIG Are you ready for an Invention Convention? Campers will use their creative eco-art skills to invent new

and improve ideas. From Trashion Fashion to Duct Tape Wallets to Cardboard Robots campers will use recycled items to

invent their best creations!

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125 M/$150 NM

TENNIS CAMP II Campers will be sent off to Scheper Tennis Academy this week, located at the tennis courts in

downtown Beaufort. From beginner to advanced tennis players, no matter what your skill level, everyone will receive

professional instruction while having fun. Please bring your racket if you have one, if not we will provide!

Ages: 5-12. Fee: $125 M/$150 NM

Session 7 (July 15-19)

HISTORIC PARK RANGERS Campers will discover national parks in Beaufort and across the country. They will explore

national parks to discover the wonders, nature and history around them. They will cover reconstruction era activities like

story telling, art and service projects.

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125M/$150 NM

PAINTS N PARADISE II If you missed or just really enjoyed the first one, here is another opportunity with new activities!

Campers will visit Ms. Candice’s DIY art studio in downtown Beaufort featuring pottery painting, mosaic art, story-time

and much more! So roll up your sleeves and get ready for a paradise experience.

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $175 M/$200 NM

Session 8 (July 22—July 26)

CRAFTY CORNER This camp is a great way for kids to express their creativity as each day brings new ideas and

projects for lots of hands on activity. They will discover a variety of art. Roll up your sleeves, put on your apron

and dig your hands in as we get messy with this hands-on, goo-fest of a camp.

Ages: 5-12. Fee: $125 M/$150 NM

BASEBALL CAMP Batter up! Campers will have hands on instruction from Coach Woods in 4 phases of the game:

pitching, hitting, catching and fielding. Campers will play in scrimmage games and friendly competitions. This

camp is designed to be fun and interactive so bring your athletic skills to the field. Please bring your desired bat

that is comfortable for your height.

Ages: 7-12. Fee: $125 M/$150 NM

Session 9 (July 29—Aug. 2)

FIRST TEE GOLF CAMP The First Tee of The Lowcountry will be working together to bring campers to Lady’s Island

Country Club. Campers will be learning The First Tee Nine Core Values and receive quality golf instruction from a

trained The First Tee Coach and Volunteer Assistant Coaches. Classes include instruction covering the major

components of the golf swing and how to successfully execute each different type of swing. They will also learn

how to incorporate Life Skills and Core Values within the lesson and how to take them into their everyday lives.

Ages: 6-12. Fee: $210 M/$230 NM

What To Bring to Camp?

Water bottle, healthy snack, bug spray (DEET Free), sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, bathing suit, towel,

plastic bag for wet clothes in a backpack or sturdy bag with campers name on it.

What NOT to Bring to Camp:

Money, sandals (only acceptable at the pool), electronic devices, i.e. cell phone, tablets or gaming devices. As a

reminder, the Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA):

At Y camp, each child will be provided with a healthy lunch and at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. We are

asking that campers come ready to exercise in comfortable walking shoes and that you pack one healthy snack for

your camper. At the Y we believe with your help, we can make a difference in your child’s life to learn how to live a

healthy lifestyle. All Y camps include a healthy breakfast and hot lunch!

If packing your child’s lunch, we ask that you keep it healthy with whole grains, fruit, veggies, 100% juice or water.

Sample of a YMCA lunch served: Wheat bread with turkey and cheese, carrot sticks, apple, and skim milk.

Swim Lessons

There is a reason why the Y is referred to as

America’s Favorite Swim Instructor. During Y Swim

Lessons, not only are you taught how to swim, but

you also learn about yourself, about safety and

rescue skills, and about water activities you can

enjoy for a lifetime. Instruction is caring and

personalized. A variety of classes are available to

meet your family's needs. Class size is determined

by considering safety factors and the age of the

participants, making sure classes don’t get too big

to be uncomfortable. Come swim with us today!
