North Kitsapers are an opinionated bunch. Be it a favorite barista, topsoil company or favorite pizza, they’ve all got someone they turn to time and time again.

This, our Best of North Kitsap insert, is essentially our reader’s choice awards. We created the categories and opened up the voting in an online poll. And the votes started rolling in. In total, more than 800 votes were tallied in the some 80 categories.

While not everyone voted in every category, we did set the guideline that at least half the survey had to be filled out. This was necessary to keep the results honest and keep businesses and/or individuals from stuffing the electronic ballot box.

We learn a lot from this process. We learn that our readers are pas-sionate about their community and are fiercely brand loyal to their chiropractors, running trails and community festivals and events.

We also learned that when we ask for participation, we certainly get it.

The patients of LBIM contribute to the success of Dr. Duggal and Dr. Wyatt’s unique physician-pharmacist medical team by providing the opportunity to manage both their disease states and the medications used to treat their disease states. They realize that the successful management of any disease state is dependent on empowering the patients to take an active role in their healthcare by utilizing both non-medication and medication therapy to optimize their health. The doctors have had the pleasure to provide a multitude of services to their patients, which include the management of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, stroke, chronic pain, opiate addiction/dependence, and medication therapy management. Nearly 34 percent of the U.S. population is obese and although this number has plateaued over the past � ve years it still is an alarmingly high number. If Americans continue to “pack on the pounds” it could cost U.S. health care approximately $350 billion dollars. Dr. Duggal and

Dr. Wyatt specialize in weight management. By proper nutritional intake and therapeutic lifestyle changes, they work with patients so that they are able to reduce their body weight, reduce the amount of medication needed to treat disease states related directly to obesity and improve their self-esteem. Management of diabetes is an area in which both doctors have a passion for service excellence in. They are certi� ed in insulin pump therapy, diabetes medication therapy management, and diabetic education. Their mission for treatment of diabetes is to empower the patients to take an active role in their healthcare by utilizing both non-medication and medication therapy to optimize their health. The team understands that the controversies of opiate pain management is a debilitating struggle of society. However, chronic pain is a naturally occurring disease complex needing appropriate management in order for patients to maintain a high quality of life. Both are associated with the American Academy of Pain Management, which has a common goal to reduce pain and a mission to maintain quality of life, improve functionality, and preserve dignity of the patient. The double-edge sword of opiate therapy is that some patients may become dependent on the opiates, making discontinuation of opiate therapy

dif� cult. Their extensive clinical experience and utilization of FDA-approved opiate withdrawal therapy provides a comfortable and compassionate center for management of opiate dependence. Combining medication and counseling therapy, integrated with a natural therapeutic approach to symptom management increases the success of becoming opiate independent. In medicine, the patient’s contribution to the success of the health care provider is often overlooked or forgotten. The reality is that if it were not for each patient’s individual uniqueness then growth for the health care provider and practice of medicine would become stunted. With that said, thank you Kitsap residents for your contribution in the advancement and success of Dr. Duggal, Dr. Wyatt, and the rest of the Liberty Bay Internal Medicine Team.
