The Mentor Support Passport

This passport will allow you to support the traineeship learner within your setting on their work placement. It will give you information about what to expect and the kinds of things you will need to provide for the learner to allow them to progress and develop.

Traineeship Framework 2014 states:

Traineeships are an education and training programme which is available for young people aged 16-24 inclusive, including young people with Learning Difficulty Assessments or Education, Health and Care plans.

Traineeships are aimed at young people who:

• are not currently in a job and have little work experience, but who are focused on work or the prospect of it

• are 16-19 and qualified below Level 3 or 19-24 and have not yet achieved a full Level 2

The involvement of employers is crucial to the success of Traineeships. Work experience in Traineeships should give the young person experience of a real workplace so they can develop the skills, knowledge, confidence, attitudes and behaviours they need to succeed at work.

• Liaise with the Assessor to ensure appropriate work experience is taking place and ensure that the workplace is supported by the Assessor, as appropriate.

• Functional Skills in English and Mathematics need to be embedded throughout all tasks in reading and writing. The Mentor should support reading, writing and mathematical skills as necessary and ensure the learner is provided with appropriate coloured copies if needed.
