Last week when Kathy opened our mail from Lutheran World Relief, there was a nice thank you for a recent contribution. They also enclosed an import reminder about the value of our gift. I wan to pass tis reminder along to all of you. You need to hear it. Part of the reminder was about ratings from organizations that rate charitable organizations. The Better Business Bureau gives them their accreditation. Charity Watch gives them their Top Rating! Charity Navigator rates LWR as a Four Star Charity. I like to know that my contribution is going to a worth- while charity. Another part of the information sheet told what our offering was doing. Our gift: ** Helped hungry families receive training to develop long-term solutions to provide their own food and income. ** Helped por rural farmers learn to adapt to the changing climate conditions that threaten their live- lihoods and well being. ** Gave families in crisis immediate assistance they need now and taught them how to prepare for the next unexpected challenge.

recent contribution. They also enclosed an import reminder about the value of our gift. I wan to pass tis
reminder along to all of you. You need to hear it.

Kathy and I make regular gifts to LWR because we care about our neighbors in need. We watch the news
consistently and see the coverage right after the disasters unfold.
I encourage you to pray about your church contributions. Have a talk with Good about how you can grow
in your giving. Consider giving more to organizations like Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Hunger,
and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

Bethel Church Council and Executive Committees did not meet for the month of July so they all could en-
joy a little vacation. They are back and looking forward to the beginning of a new preschool year and
planning a wonderful celebration for our Homecoming in September.
BETHEL LUTHERAN MEN IN MISSION
LMIM Minutes July 2, 2019 Location: Pastor Robinson’s Shop
Attendance: 10
We enjoyed delicious bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches and corn on the cob. Thanks to those who furnished food for tonight’s meal. Thanks you to Pastor Robinson for supplying fresh corn out of his garden. It was all very good.
Our meeting was opened by Perry VonCanon..
Dave Hincemon gave the devotions entitled, “God’s Gracious Giving”.
The minutes from the June 4th meeting were read. Perry VonCanon made a motion to accept the minutes. Al Brandon 2nd the motion and it passed unanimously.
Perry VonCanon reported that we have $2,860 in our LMIM Treasury.
The 4 members of the Bethel Executive Committee met before the meal and approved getting the Fellowship Building hall-way and wings painted at a cost of $2,300. This will include the cost of the paint. Two coats will be applied. Perry VonCanon made a motion that the LMIM donate $600 towards this project. The motion was 2nd by Al Brandon and it passed unanimously. This work will be completed prior to Bethel’s start of preschool
The LMIM thanked Dave Hincemon and Charles Shuping for placing flags on 36 graves in our cemetery, 8 flags in Rowan Memorial Park and 3 flags in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. These flags honor our veterans who served our country in any war.
A big thank you to Dave Hincemon for donation a new funeral pall and urn pall. The old one will be cleaned and placed in our archives.
Our next meeting will be on August 6th at 6:30 PM at Pastor Robinson’s Shop. We will serve grilled hamburgers, baked beans and potato chips. Men please bring desserts. Al Brandon will give our devotions.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned after supper. Everyone recited Galatians 2:20. “I have been cru-cified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

This month’s spotlight will shine on Pastor Darrell and his wife Kathy.
They both grew up here in Rowan County, Darrell on the north side attending North Rowan High School then Catawba College followed by Southern Seminary. Kathy was in the south-ern part of the county attending South Rowan High followed by Lenoir-Rhyne College and masters education completed at UNC-Charlotte. They were married in May 1981. Blessed with 2 sons, John who works in real estate married to Emily and they reside in Winston Sa-lem; Paul works in medical research, resides in Boston he will marry Joanna in September . Kathy is retired, her teaching career lead her to teach in Kannapolis, Cherryville and several Rowan County Schools. Darrell came to serve us as interim July 2017; previously he was at Bethel Lincolnton, Mt. Zion Richfield, Chaplain at Lutheran Home/Trinity Oaks and interim pastor at 4 other churches.
Spare time will find Kathy and Darrell going to the movies, watching the Carolina Panthers, and planning their next excursion either in the U.S. or Europe. Darrell will also be found in the stadium of North Rowan watching their football team or in the grandstands at Catawba watching legion baseball in the Bethel rooting section. Kathy’s favorite hymn is “Lift High the Cross” and Darrell’s is “Beautiful Savior”.
Something you may not know about Kathy: at Lenoir Rhyne, she met Denzel Washington's wife Pauletta when she came to visit a friend who lived in her dorm.
The new Preschool Year is fast approaching!!
The first day of Preschool is August 15th. Presently, there are openings availa-
ble for 3 and 4 year old's.
This will be the first year for our new teacher Jennifer Whisnant. Jennifer
brings with her lots of new and exciting ideas as together she and Cindy have
great plans for helping the children Reach for the Stars!!
The Preschool teachers do have a few needs to stock their cabinets for the com-
ing year:
Small plain white envelopes Sharpie markers, black
Napkins (for snack) AA Batteries
Wooden blocks (ABC or colored) Tacky Glue
Lysol spray Elmer’s School glue
Lysol Wipes Mr. Clean Magic erasers
Anything you can provide is greatly
appreciated.
Rowan Helping Ministries food pantry is still in need.
Here at Bethel, we are so richly blessed, if everyone would pick up and extra
item or three when they shop during the summer months, we can help with
this need. If you will drop it off in the cart in the narthex, I will see that it gets
to RHM on a regular basis.
SUGGESTED ITEMS for the food panty for August are: Sugar, flour, rice and
cornbread mix; these items are simply suggestions, any/all items are welcomed.
Any of these items you can help with will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your continued sup-
port of Rowan Helping Ministries.
Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary needs plastic grocery bags. If you can help with
this, there is a box under the table in the narthex. Thank you for your help.
Rowan One Church One Child is also an ongoing ministry here at Bethel. John Hoffman and Dave
Hincemon spearhead this outreach and would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding
specifics of this group. The following is a list of current needs:
Diapers Baby wipes Socks/underwear—adult and child sizes Shoes—adult and size child
Bed pillows-sheets-blankets-comforters Dishes—flatware—cookware Towels—
washcloths Cleaning supplies Baby Items Personal Hygiene items Gently used small appliances
Books for ALL ages
Please do not throw away gently used household items and usable furniture that you no longer need.
