If you prefer, a nursery is available Sunday mornings at the Highlands campus (9:30 am). FLOWERS Flowers on the altar Downtown are placed by Ron & Mayelva Rimer in celebration of their 63rd wedding anniversary. BETHEL’S ANNUAL CELEBRATION TODAY Howdy, pardners! Come for some chow and squinny this Sunday afternoon, January 31, 4-6:30pm at the Highlands campus sanctuary. Meeting at 4pm fol- lowed by chow at 5:30pm. This year’s theme: The Old West! This is an all-family event, with childcare provided! During the meeting the congregation will have a chance to vote for new council members. Please see today’s insert for their biographies. HELPING TO FEED HUNGRY PEOPLE Next Sunday, February 7 is Super Bowl Sunday when some great football will be played. But it is also a day we will plan to ease the hunger of some of our local hungry people. Please plan to bring a can of soup or two for Bethel's SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY collection. We’ll make sure it gets to the food shelf. (If you’d like to make a gift, you can simply write a check labeled “food shelf” and drop it in the offering plate.) Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity! SOMETHING NEW—TWO WEEKLY LENTEN SERVICES Lent is a meaningful and powerful time for us to come to- gether as a family of faith! We’ll begin our 2016 Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday on February 10. We’ll wor- ship with the imposition of ashes at the Downtown cam- pus at 1pm and 5pm, then up at the Highlands cam- pus at 7pm. We hope you’ll make every effort to get this on your calendar, gather the family, invite a friend, and begin the Lenten Season with us. And yes, we would encourage you to bring the kids. Then, for the following five Wednesdays of Lent, we’ll be at the High- lands campus with two services at 5pm and 7pm . In between supper will be served between 5:45pm to 7pm. Along with our Congregational Life Committee, a number of our youth, and their families, will be planning, preparing and serving our Lenten suppers, plus a week of food from Wendy’s and another from Sgt. Peppers (of Oakdale). The cost will be $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family. They will be great meals with the best fellowship anyone could ask for. Any profits made will go towards offsetting mission projects and our youth ministry. BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH ONE CONGREGATION—TWO LOCATIONS JANUARY 31, 2016 WELCOME TO WORSHIP AT BETHEL! WELCA BIBLE STUDY LEADER TRAINING SUNDAY, 1/31 Reminder: this month's WELCA (Women of the ELCA) Bible study is in the same Gather Magazine as last month. Pastor Alicia will plan to see this month's designated Bible study leaders at Bethel's Downtown campus in the conference room this afternoon at 1 pm, Sunday, Jan. 31. THANKS TO SKIP FOR OFFERING BETHEL U COURSE

A big thank you to Skip James for offering our Bethel University of Hud-son course in January. The three-week course on sacred music was well at-tended and much enjoyed. Skip inspired each of us to appreciate the history of sacred music and see it in a whole new light. Thank you also to the Edu-cation Committee (especially Steve Heilmann for chairing the event) for or-ganizing all the details.

BETHEL BOOK CLUB MEETS FEBRUARY 3 The Bethel Book Club will meet on Wednesday, February 3, from 1-3 pm at the Downtown campus to discuss, The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin. This historical novel is about Anne Morrow Lindberg and her marriage and life with Charles Lindberg. It draws on the rich history of the 20th century from the late 20’s to the mid 60’s. Anne was an accomplished pilot herself and traveled with Charles as his co-pilot in the early years of aviation, mapping routes that are still used by the airlines today.

All are welcome to join us in a lively discussion of the book which will be facilitated by Bonnie Federation. P O W E R O F P R A Y E R THOSE WHO ARE SICK OR IN NEED OF HEALING Laura Bankes, Pastor Bob Bipes, Andrea Deacon-Jones, Allen Ecker, Pat Eich, Barbara Erickson, Doris Fondroy, Shirley Halyburton, Margaret Hamann, Ken Heiser, Jean Hobart, Jean Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Cheryl Klanderman, Kim Lagerstrom, Ruth Lewis, Herbert Lidtke, Dan Lindquist, Sarah Lockbaum, Liam Loughney, Andrew Mack, Augusto Perez, Sr., Terri Pomeroy, Rosemary Riemenschneider, Kay Shager, Chuck Stene, Chris Wolfgram, Valerie Woods, Jason Yndestad.

THOSE SERVING OR DEPLOYED Jeffrey Berg, Charles Burns, Jordan Kein and Steven Moreus.

SYMPATHY We offer our sympathies and prayers to Jennie and Chuck Boeder at the death of Jennie’s mother, Marge. God bless and comfort these friends with the promise of Christ: “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”

HEALING MINISTRIES PRAYER God of steadfast love, today, I'm in one of those neutral days. I want to thank you for being present in my life every day, even on neutral days. When some-one asks me, "How are you?" I try to respond authentically without being too divulging. I know I have you to divulge to. But interestingly there are some days "I am neutral"; days when I don't really have a clue "how I am." My reply to the question usually goes like this, "I don't know, I haven't checked in with myself yet". Lord, I want you to know I don't feel bad that I haven't checked in with myself yet, or that I am neutral or I haven't pinpointed "how I am." I trust you to help me pinpoint or to relax into my neutral, relaxed state of mind. I trust that you know and that some days I don't know. Amen. “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

TODAY’S QUOTE “God forces no one, for love cannot compel, and God’s service, therefore, is a thing of perfect freedom.”~Hans Denck
