OCTOBER 2015 ISSUE NUMBER 2

Day number 2 for the Cardinals was superhero day. Many people sported the typical superman or batman, but there were a few teachers that stood out from the crowd. Mr. Hanson had a white shirt with “Mama J” (his wife, Jeanine) written on it. “When asked what/who he was he said, “My superhero is my wife, Mama J!” He

was very enthused and proud about this, as he is about almost everything. The other teacher that stood out was Mr. Brent Zabel. As we all know, he is a major fan of superheroes, so we can only assume that he would go all out for this day. And so, he did not disappoint as he tweeted the picture to the left with the caption, “Superhero day at BA! My X-Ray vision is coming in handy for Anatomy!” Then, everyone took off their superhero costumes and dressed up to go have

mass with our true superhero, Jesus. After mass on Wednesday, we continued our day and ended with with an aggressive game of Powderpuff football between the senior and juniors girls and a good game of volleyball between the senior and junior boys. The seniors managed to come out with two wins. Next, on Thursday, we started out the day with the senior auction. The senior class made about $280 dollars on the senior auction. The theme for Thursday was twin day, you just had to match or look similar to another person. We also ended Thursday with an interesting game of volleyball. The girls played Waconia and came out with a 3-0 win. After the game, many girls from each grade, and even some of the boys, went out toilet papering many houses. From the late night on Thursday to the early morning of decorating on Friday. Many people from all the grades were in the gym or the parking lot early Friday morning working on their floats or their walls. After homeroom, everyone came to the gym for a short reading and speeches by the five candidates about the four dominican pillars. We ended this with the usual meet your candidates. After that, we went outside for tug-o-war, apple bob, a relay race and the balloon toss. After lunch we went to the gym again for the pep-fest. We did the annual year cheer with all the grades, then the skits by freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, the speeches by Mr. Hanson and Mr. Boelter, then, we ended with the coronation of homecoming King. Peyton Glenzinski, escorted by Emily Crone, was crowned Homecoming King 2015.

Apple Bob Sophomores stepped up, and won this event. Apple Bobbing this year, was a bit messier than it has been in the past. It started off with Zack Moreau knocking his container of apples and water onto the ground within the first 5 seconds. Then he went to his teammates (Shelby Meyer) bucket of apples and knocked hers off the table! This led to a disqualification for the Junior Class, putting them into last place on the leader board. Thus helping the Sophomore participants to take their victory.

Tug-of-War This year the Seniors were the reigning champions. It was a battle for every grade to beat the 8th graders, but the Seniors took them down. Almost every grade had a teammate hit the ground, and the majority of the team members left with muddy shoes. Mr. Hanson refereed the War this year and also added a lot of excitement to this event. Tug-of-War was one of the more popular events at this years homecoming. Both participating and cheering.

Homecoming 2015 High school Outside Activities Every year, on the day of Homecoming there are many events prior to the game that night. The Outside Events, are something not many students want to participate in, but always do. These events include all grades competing in numerous activities such as, Tug-of-War, Apple Bobbing, Ballon Launch, and Relay Races.

Relay Races This event included the Pillowcase race, Wheelbarrow race, and the Balloon walk. Sophomores also can say they have a victory in this event. Freshman came is Second, and the Senior class came in third with help from Emily Crone. Picking the water balloon up and walking with it between there legs, was said to be the hardest event in this race.

Balloon Launch The ballon launch was launched into despair, due to running out of time. There was no clear winner, but we look forward to having a winner next year.

It was homecoming week and that means many different activities including each high school grade getting to decorate a wall or hallway. Everyone this year had different, but all great themes and ideas.!            This year something happened that doesn’t happen very often… the seniors didn’t win this event. The freshman took first place this year. Their hallway was lit up with lights, had a bunch of glittery posters, and was decorated with stars and streamers. The freshman class did a very nice job on it, everyone thought as they won. It was a close race between them and the seniors

but they came out on top.!            The senior class came in second with a different and creative take for decorating. Their theme was “Rock the Rebels”. Their wall had guitars, records, and many other music themed items. The seniors was very well done just like the freshman’s wall.!            The sophomore’s wall came in third place. Their theme was “Wrap the Rebels”. The sophomores put bubble wrap and saran wrap around cut outs of rebels on the wall. They also had many different posters and sayings. This was another different and great idea for a wall.!            Finally, the junior’s wall came in last place. Their theme was “Repel the Rebels”. They had huge cardinal cut outs with a repellent spray chasing after smaller rebels. The junior class had a great idea, just like everyone else. It was tuff competition this year. Someone always has to come out on top and on the bottom and this year the juniors were on the bottom.!

“It felt good.” -Freshman Maggie Viland commenting on how it felt to win the wall contest.

Bethlehem Academy Grade Floats

The Bethlehem Academy parking lot was full but not of cars. There were 4 different floats the freshmen, sophomore, junior,

and senior floats. Each grade was told to come up with a clever

The Freshmen took after dean of students Scott Hanson and his constant reminder to keep the train rolling. The Freshmen had

made a train “ The Cardinal Express” running over a Rebel player. The Freshmen won the contest with there clever little train and it would be my guess that Mr Hanson appreciated it

The Sophomores took a different rout and insisted that the Rebels are Rubbish. Adding to there theme of accusing the Rebels of being waste that must be disposed of. The float had Rebel players in trash cans along with a few other things the Sophomores found not necessary.

The seniors chose to “Rock the Rebels” and had a Cardinal driving a ranger dumping rocks on a Rebel member the seniors piled the rebels under a pile of rocks and chorused there will to live.

The Junior float had a Rebel being shot out of a cannon. “Rout the Rebels “was their theme and also the theme for the entire school.

BA Homecoming Skits 2015

Article written by: Tony Avila , Kyle Ell

The BA homecoming skits started off with the freshman skit which was just them fighting each other and basically tried copying the seniors from last years skit.

The sophomore class went with wrap the Rebels. They used it as a pun and had a rap battle between the cardinals and the Rebels. The cardinals won the rap battle. Then there was the senior skit which was by far the best skit, it won the contest and everyone loved it and cheered and laughed the whole time. The senior skit was the seniors doing a parody of the teachers. the teachers included in the skit were Mr. Zabel (Connor Lipinski), Mrs Allen ( Bethany Allen), Mr. Hanson (Kollin Hanson), Mr. Madden (Tony Avila), Mr. Wagner (Kyle Ell), Mr. Mcgurran ( Sam Clark), Mr. Boelter ( John Healy), Mrs Kriechbaum ( Nora Schultz), Mr. Friesen ( Cooper Brooks ), Mr. Halverson (Bryan Brazil), Mr. Zabel Sr. (Beau Reavuers ). The seniors got great praise for there skit and it worked to perfection. Everyone laughed and had fun. The skit ended with the seniors having a 15 confetti cannon blast and it was a great way to end the best skit ever preformed at this school. The seniors will go down as legends in the school for this skit. Juniors took this opportunity to put in question USC’s IQ. They mocked them for being dumb and not knowing how to play “the football”. They talked about doing “that one thing” to beat the cardinals. They all talked like hicks. They showed one play of the game which was a touchdown for the cardinals. Overall the skits were fun two watch especially the seniors and junior skits, but in the end the seniors won hands down.

Dress up days

Monday: Color Day 6th grade- Orange 7th grade- Yellow 8th grade- Purple Freshman- Blue Sophomores- Green Juniors- Grey Seniors- Neon Teachers- Black

Tuesday: Super hero day

Wednesday: Dress to impress for mass!

Thursday: Twin day

Friday: Spirit day!

Homecoming week is a very fun and exciting week here at BA. The dress up days are the best part mainly just because the students do not have to wear jeans. Every year during homecoming week seniors go around at lunch counting how many students participated in that days dress up day. And of course every day the seniors won. The middle school was very involved with homecoming this year, on each day one of the grades in middle school won. We asked a couple students what their favorite days were and what days they would like to have in the future also. A lot of the students said that they liked Super hero day because it was fun to dress up and match super heroes with their friends. A couple students said it would be cool to have a Zombie day or just a walking dead day in the future!

POWERPUFF FOOTBALL GAME

Powderpuff football has been a tradition for Bethlehem Academy for many years. Many people would say that this years powderpuff game was one to remember. Throughout the game there were many tackles, sacks, fumbles, amazing plays, and a few turnovers. Both the juniors and the seniors kept the game interesting. One touchdown after another fought for the win. At the halftime both teams were tied. The second half was also a very close game but it remained tied. To decided who won the game, the referees decided to make the game go into overtime, In overtime each team got a play and if one team scores and the others doesn't they win. The seniors ending up winning the powderpuff game but it was sure a close one. It was a fun football game to watch but unfortunately many of the girls left with injuries.

Teams shaking hands after the seniors won in overtime.

Shelby Meyer junior quarterback almost lead the junior team to a win over the seniors.

Hannah Robb senior quarterback led the senior girls to a win over the juniors.

The junior girls were pretty beat up after this game along with he seniors. Seniors player Mya Johnson left the field during the game because she thought that she might have a concussion. Maddy Drevlow had a back injury but continued to play in the game. Many of the girls left with bumps, bruises, and they were all very sore in the morning. But overall all the girls had a good time participating in the 2015 powderpuff game.

It is safe to say that the Cardinals played a true team game. Everybody contributed and the second and third team players had a chance to go in nearing the end of the game. They did good as well. Next week’s game will be against JWP where the Cardinals will look to have another big win.

WHO’S WHO? GET TO KNOW YOUR CLASSMATES

Article written by: April L. & Makayla S.

Andrew Donahue

Andrew Donahue, is a 6th grader this year who came over from DMCS. We asked Andy what he would do

in a situation where he was extremely tired, very hungry or very dirty. Would he take a nap first, eat or take a shower? He told us that he would eat before he did anything, take a nap next and then shower. The topic of homecoming was brought up when Makayla pointed out how sweet Mr. Zabel’s spiderman coffee mug is that was also used in the senior homecoming skit this past week. We asked Andy what he dressed up as on superhero day, he said superman because

one of his superpowers is the ability to fly. Andy mentioned that if he could have any superpower for a week it would be flying as well because it’s cool. We truthfully couldn’t argue that one with Andy at this point. Further into the interview we all were on the

same page when it came to school wanting to be over so we could enjoy summer once again. We asked

Andy if he did anything exciting or interesting over this past summer, he mentioned that he took a family trip to New York. “It was very cool, I saw a lot of stuff

there like Time Square and the Statue of Liberty which was awesome.” With that being said, we’d like to hope Andy a very fast and successful first year at

B.A.

Emma Caron

This week for the Who’s Who edition for the BA Star we interviewed Emma Caron, a junior at Bethlehem Academy this year. While in conversation we asked her what she would do if she was extremely tired,

very hungry, or very dirty. Would you take a nap, eat or shower first? She would first eat a big mac along

with a coke then she would take a shower but it would be a quick one so she can go to bed. She would then proceed to go to bed with a pillow, blanket and a fan we agreed with the order and admired her detailed

response. Since it was homecoming week, Emma was dressed as Superman on Tuesday along with Makayla

& I. We asked what super power she would like to have for a week and why. She would want to be able to teleport to different locations because you would

be able to visit the world and just leave whenever you want. After talking about homecoming for a while, we

got into the subject of summer. Emma mentioned that even though she worked two jobs that kept her

fairly busy, she managed to hang out with friends and family throughout the summer which made this one of her highlights during the summer. They say junior year is the hardest but don’t be fooled you’ll make it through it all. Best wishes to Emma, hopefully it is a

very fun and eventful school year!

Faribault Cross Country

Nicole Menard, Fr.

How long have you been in cross country? “This will be my third year.” How has your season been going so far? “Good. The girls team is doing great and we will only get better.” What has been your favorite part of cross country? “The twenty-four hour relay.” How do you feel about running a 5k instead of a 4k this season? “It’s a big change, but I think our team can handle it.” What is your personal best time? “28:00” What is your goal time? “21:00”

Maggie Viland, Fr.

How long have you been in cross country? “This is the start of my second year.” How has your season been going so far? “Pretty good, we’ve only had two meets but I can tell this is going to be a great season for everybody.” What has been your favorite part of cross country? “All the team bonding things we do, like spaghetti dinners, team bonfires, and the twenty-four hour relay.” How do you feel about running a 5k instead of a 4k this year? “Its a big change and will take some time to adjust to, since we will have to be racing at a different pace than we did last season.” What is your personal best time? “22:56” What is your goal time? “Anything under 22:00”

They run, run, run, run again, and then run some more. To most people, this sounds like about the last thing they want to do. However, to the Faribault Cross Country team, they can’t get enough of running. In fact, the members of the team stayed up running for 24 hours. This is their 24 hour relay that takes place every year at Bruce Smith Field. It is the teams only fundraiser that helps pay for their annual overnight Winona meet that is coming up on Saturday, September 26. The Faribault Cross Country team showed their love for running once again at their first meet on September 1 in Austin. Everyone ran 3.1 miles in the brutal heat, with the temperature reaching almost 90 degrees. Madelyn Skjeveland, an eighth grader who ran state last year, placed second with a time of 19:57.5. Lauren Moll, a senior this year, placed fifth with a time of 20:13.4. On the boys side, junior Adam Tuma placed third with a time of 16:54.8. The team ran even better September 11, having everybody on the team beat their previous time. Maybe it was because of the cooler weather, or because they know their home course better. Whatever the reason, the Faribault Cross Country team has improved tremendously from last year and will keep improving as the season goes on.
