Jesus knew He would be Betrayed:

Matthew 17:22-23 NKJV Now while they were staying

in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into

the hands of men, (23) and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised

up." And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

Page 4: Betrayed ha11 030815

Jesus knew He would be Betrayed:

Matt. 20:18-19 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they

will condemn Him to death, (19) and deliver Him to the Gentiles to

mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day

He will rise again."

Matthew 10:1-4 NKJV And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. (2) Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Page 6: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 10:1-4 continued (3) Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; (4) Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

Page 7: Betrayed ha11 030815

John 6:66-71 NKJV From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (67) Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" (68) But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (69) Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Page 8: Betrayed ha11 030815

John 6:66-71 continued (70) Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?" (71) He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

TUESDAY EVENING, APRIL 4, 30 AD:

Matthew 26:1-2 NKJV Now it came to pass,

when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples, (2) “You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be

delivered up to be crucified.”

Page 10: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:3-4 NKJV Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, (4) and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.

Page 11: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:5 NKJV But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”

Page 12: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:14-16 NKJV Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests (15) and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. (16) So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.

(As prophesied in Zechariah 11:12; It was a contemptuous price. That of a male or female servant gored to death by an ox; Ex. 21:32. Equated to about 120 denarius.)

Jesus knew He would be Betrayed by Judas:

Thursday Evening

Matthew 26:21 NKJV Now as they were eating, He said, "Assuredly, I say

to you, one of you will betray Me."

Page 14: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:25 NKJV Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, "Rabbi, is it I?" He said to him, "You have said it.”

Page 15: Betrayed ha11 030815

Joh 13:23-30 NKJV Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. (24) Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. (25) Then, leaning back on Jesus' breast, he said to Him, "Lord, who is it?" (26) Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. (27) Now after the piece of bread,

Page 16: Betrayed ha11 030815

John 13:23-30 continued Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly.” (28) But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. (29) For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, "Buy those things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor. (30) Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.

Page 17: Betrayed ha11 030815

John 18:1-2 NKJV When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. (2) And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples.

Page 18: Betrayed ha11 030815

John 18:3 NKJV (3) Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

ESV, “band of soldiers” from tower of Antonia ranged in number from 300 to 600 men.

Page 19: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:48-50 ESV Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I will kiss is the man; seize him." (49) And he came up to Jesus at once and said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" And he kissed him. (50) Jesus said to him, "Friend, do what you came to do." Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.

Page 20: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:31-35 NKJV Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: 'I WILL STRIKE THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK WILL BE SCATTERED.' (32) But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee." (33) Peter answered and said to Him, "Even if all

Page 21: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:31-35 continued are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble." (34) Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." (35) Peter said to Him, "Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!" And so said all the disciples.

Page 22: Betrayed ha11 030815

Matthew 26:56 NKJV But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

Page 23: Betrayed ha11 030815

Adam Clarke wrote, “O what is man! How little is even his utmost sincerity to be depended on! Jesus is abandoned by all! -even zealous Peter and loving John are among the fugitives! Was ever master so served by his scholars? Was ever parent so treated by his children? Is there not as much zeal and love among them all as might make one martyr for God and truth?

Page 24: Betrayed ha11 030815

Alas! no. He had but twelve who professed inviolable attachment to him; one of these betrayed him, another denied him with oaths, and the rest run away and utterly abandon him to his implacable enemies! Are there not found among his disciples still,
