A CAMPAIGN FOR THE SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY PREP
Better Together
A Daily MiracleEvery day on the campuses of Archway Scottsdale and Scottsdale Prep, a miracle occurs. In buildings that lay vacant only a few years before, families, students and teachers now come together to bring a school community to life. Dedicated to the pursuit of Truth, Goodness and Beauty, they engage a curriculum and academy model that was once found only in elite private schools.
Each day, every child is given a full Great Hearts education. The arts are not cut – they are magnified. The same is true for languages, music, math, science, athletics and clubs – everything that is needed to form “great-hearted” young men and women. This is all done in a public school setting that is tuition-free and open to all.
“”
Scottsdale Prep and Archway provide an incredible foundation and prepare students to become life-long learners. We were just missing one thing. Our family is thrilled at the prospect of finally having a complete
and permanent campus to call home.Janna & Matt Everroad
Better Together | Great Hearts1
When Scottsdale Prep held its first open house in the spring of 2008, eight months before it was set to open its doors, it prepared a room for 150 interested parents, with an additional 100 chairs for overflow. When the headmaster rose to begin the program, the room was overflowing with more than 500 parents. For the opening of Archway Scottsdale a few years later, the school offered an online open-enrollment opportunity. It was first-come, first-served, and the new school was filled in 98 seconds, with hundreds of families left on the waitlist.
The founding of Great Hearts in the Scottsdale community met a broad and deep demand for a better vision of education, where everyone and everything – the teachers, the school culture, and the classical curriculum – is dedicated to forming great-hearted men and women.
The Founding Vision – Met with Community DemandFrom day one, the Scottsdale real estate market presented obstacles to the full growth and vision of the Great Hearts Scottsdale K-12 community. Perhaps more than anywhere else in Arizona, the North Scottsdale market comes with higher costs and limited availability of suitable properties. From the very beginning, the schools and families have worked shoulder to shoulder to meet and overcome these challenges.
In true partnership, the families have responded with good will, creativity and generosity at every turn. In 2008, they helped transform a former call center into the first campus. In 2011, they rose generously to the challenge of completing the beautiful new Scottsdale Prep campus on 92nd Street, and the new Archway families helped fund extensive improvements of their current campus.
But the challenges remain. Scottsdale Prep, with its thriving athletic program, does not have a home field of its own. Daily practices and home games are a continual struggle and a drain of time, money, and, most importantly, school spirit. Without a stretch of grass on campus, field days and many outdoor clubs are out of the question. It is a daily constraint on a world-class school.
A shining example of the Great Hearts mission, Archway Scottsdale is held back by its leased and space limited campus. Recess and “Field Days” are held in a parking lot. The school has no gymnasium for P.E. or athletic clubs, its playground is undersized for its student body, and
The Heart of Scottsdale
Our families have waited patiently for a new campus, dreaming of a larger, complete facility and hoping to also
get a little closer to Scottsdale Prep. This new campus exceeds all our dreams! Our families are excited for this true Kindergarten through twelfth grade experience that is now
possible on one contiguous campus.Lisa Armstrong, Headmaster - Archway Scottsdale

A Great Community held back
it has no proper library. The tight campus struggles with noisy classrooms from nearby music and P.E. classes. Closets are used as “mini” classrooms. The 5th grade is housed three miles away at the Prep campus. There is a long waitlist of boys and girls who would likely never gain admission because there is simply not enough room.
Lastly, and perhaps to greatest loss every day for the students, teachers, and families of the Scottsdale community, are all of the benefits, big and small, that come from a united and cohesive K-12 campus.
2 3Great Hearts | Better Together Better Together | Great Hearts
After many years of unsuccessful attempts for a Prep sports field and a new Archway campus, an opportunity presented itself that would solve both challenges at the same time. Archway Scottsdale would have a permanent home of its own - a new campus designed for its programs and room for more students in grades K-5. At long last, a Scottsdale Prep would have a home field…not miles away, but right on campus.
How was this possible?
In September 2017, Headmasters Chaney and Armstrong wrote the Scottsdale Prep and Archway community with the news that a 9.8-acre site immediately to the northeast of the Scottsdale Prep campus had been secured at a cost of $21 million. It was a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
With the investment of an additional $5.7 million in charitable contributions, the site will be transformed into a new, united 16-acre campus for our K-12 community.

Now in our 10th year, Scottsdale Prep will finally see the long-anticipated arrival of a football and soccer field on our very own campus. Athletics are a pillar of our
academy culture, and we eagerly await the opportunity to provide this much-needed amenity for our student athletes. Our combined Archway and Scottsdale
Prep campuses will ultimately have their own “home field” to celebrate many athletic and community events for years to come.
