We understand that you have many choices of where to give your time and resources, and we are honored each time someone chooses California Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) to make a gift.

You are an important friend to us, and it’s our pleasure to present to you California Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) Foundation’s Annual Report for fiscal year 2018. Your support provides the margin of excellence that allows the hospital to do more than it ever could otherwise.

The results can be measured in lives enriched, healed, and saved. The hospital currently operates the busiest private trauma center in Los Angeles and last year our emergency department saw more than 81,000 patients. The hospital also serves as a cornerstone of maternity care with more than 3,400 births in FY18. We are an anchor institution for the communities we serve, and as these communities grow and change, so will the hospital—thanks to your support.

On behalf of the patients and families we’re privileged to serve, we thank you, our generous donors, many of whom are listed in this report—thank you for being an integral part of all we do. And to our Foundation Board, our Community Board, and our other volunteer leaders—your sound guidance consistently brings us to new heights.

The Ahmanson Foundation$300,000

Funding was awarded to upgrade the imaging capabilities of CHMC’s radiology department with the purchase and installation of a 128-slice CT scanner. This technology will reduce patients’ radiation burden, increase daily scan capacity and enable CHMC to offer advanced diagnostic services including CT angiogram (CCTA) and CT perfusion (CTP).

Wells Fargo awarded a grant to support the after-school program at Hope Street Margolis Family Center, a community benefit program of CHMC. The program provides students ages 8-18 with a protected environment that addresses their need for academic support, positive peer and adult relationships, and recreational activity during after school hours, on weekends, and during vacations. The eight-week “Summer of Science” program utilizes science related themes, project-based learning experiences, and weekly field trips to motivate and increase student awareness on a range of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) topics and careers.

CHMC has played a major role in the growth, development and health of Los Angeles since 1887. Today, we are planning for the best ways to continue our mission and tradition of serving our unique patient populations and making our communities healthier places.

As the first step in a campus master plan, we are building a 150,460-square-foot, four-story patient care tower—the shared vision of CHMC leadership, California Hospital Medical Center Foundation and Dignity Health.

Each floor will provide added space, necessary privacy, and state-of-the-art medical technology, allowing us to attract and retain the most talented physicians, nurses, and staff.
