On 20 May at 0.00 UTC its centre was 195 km south-east of Bhubaneshwar City (Odisha), and 370 km south-southwest of Kolkata (West Bengal), with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h. According to media reports, national authorities in India are evacuating over 1 million people from Odisha and from West Bengal, while 2 million are being evacuated in Bangladesh. Tropical Cyclone Amphan and associated storm surge are expected to affect the island of Bhasan Char, in Noakali District of Bangladesh where over 300 refugees are settled. The present map shows the wind storm delineation in the area of Bhasan Char (Bangladesh). The thematic layer has been derived from post-event satellite image using a semi-automatic approach. The estimated geometric accuracy (RMSE) is 10 m or better, from native positional accuracy of the background satellite image.
