Zwan Family Charity has been raising funds to get Bibi Hawa and Samiullah heart surgeries since
2015. Samiullah had his first surgery as a baby and required a second surgery to complete his
treatment. Bibi Hawa suffered from Tetrology of Fallot which is an abnormality comprised of four
heart defects. She required surgery to give her the chance of a healthy future.
VPS Healthcare (www.vpshealth.com) in the UAE made contact with Zwan Family Charity in
March 2016 and offered to sponsor both children and another 8 cardiac surgeries for Zwan Family
Charity clients.
Bibi and Samiullah travelled to the Narayana Hospital (www.narayanahealth.org) in Bangalore,
India, in May 2016 to undergo pre-op assessments and surgery. Both children tolerated the
procedures and are now back home in Afghanistan and recovering very well. We will see them in
6 weeks time for their post-op assessment.
Thank you to everyone who donated to their campaigns, the money raised paid for their
passports, travel, accommodation and living expenses. Without our generous donors, these
operations would not have been possible.

Deba & Nageena - The Thalassemia Sisters
Deba & Nageena packed their things, loaded up their family and made the trek to Bangalore to get
under direct care of Dr Lawrence Faulkner from Cure2Children (www.cure2children.org) and his team.
The project is supported by People Tree Hospitals (www.peopletreehospitals.com), the Sankalp India
Foundation (www.sankalpindia.net) and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health
(www.karnataka.gov.in)
Zwan Family Charity representatives recently visited Deba & Nageena in Bangalore, India. Both of the
girls are thriving and have settled into their temporary new home very well. The transplant team is very
happy with how well the girls are responding to their treatment which is preparing them for their bone
marrow transplants.
Nageena is now ready for her bone marrow transplant but we are still short of the funds to pay for it.
We are urgently appealing to raise USD12,000 which includes the transplant, nursing care and medica-
tion. To make donations toward the cost of Nageena’s bone marrow transplant, please visit our
GoFundMe page - https://www.gofundme.com/sx6kh7fk
Mr Qadeer - Our First Colostomy Patient
Mr Qadeer was referred to Westex Medical Solutions by a third
party following a complex bowel operation which resulted in a
colostomy. His family were able to meet some of the costs of his
care but not all and so Mr Qadeer was referred to Zwan Family
Charity.
We provided him with wound care, colostomy supplies and silver
dressing to help his wounds heal. He was eventually moved to
ICRC (www.icrc.org) in Kabul where they were working with
Mr Qadeer to help him start walking again and regain his
independence.
Sadly, Mr Qadeer passed away peacefully in his sleep one evening.
Zwan Family Charity is really going to miss him. There was a
strong bond formed and he was quite the character!
Samir and His New Wheels!!
Samir is about 5 years old and is an orphan at Window of
Hope Orphanage which is partially sponsored by Enabled
Childrens Initiative (www.enabledchildren.org)
Samir is a paraplegic. His past medical history is not
completely clear but we believe he has been afflicted with
Spina Bifida. Samir is an extremely bright child with a
determined personality. Window of Hope have enrolled him
in a school which caters to disabled children.
Because of the many generous donations by Zwan Family
Charity supporters, we have been able to purchase a
wheelchair for Sami so he can gain independence and attend
his school.
A special thank you to Emirates Airline in Houston, Texas,
who did not charge the oversize luggage fee for the
wheelchair when they learned of Samir’s story.
Mustafa’s Story Mustafa is an orphan at Window of Hope Orphanage in Kabul. He has Hydrocephaly (water on the brain) and Cerebral Palsy.
Mustafa has a permanent shunt in his head which helps to drain water off his brain. These shunts need replacing as a child grows or
as the drain becomes clogged or fails. Mustafa had his shunt replaced and soon afterwards, started having trouble swallowing.
Over time, Mustafa lost a tremendous amount of weight. The diligent staff at Window of Hope brought Mustafa multiple times to a
Kabul hospital. Mustafa’s situation worsened. Mustafa was turned away.
The staff brought Mustafa to Westex Medical Solutions in a critical state. He was only skin and bones with a few bed sores. He was
so tired that he could not cry. Westex immediately connected Mustafa to Zwan Family Charity. We found a Pediatrician who was
willing to place an NG tube and start feeding Mustafa directly into his stomach. The doctor visited the orphanage every other day for
almost a month. In time, the tube was removed.
A Zimbabwean nurse by the name of Precious also went out every other day to
care for Mustafa’s bedsores and do some nutrition training. The staff at Window
of Hope are not medically trained and yet are willing to take on the immense task
of keeping these children alive.
Mustafa is still a little thin but he is alive and alert. He enjoys sitting outside in his
chair when the weather is nice and he sometimes sits with the big kids in the
classroom. Mustafa’s care will take a team for the rest of his life but we get to
enjoy him one day at a time.
Jawad is a 26 year old man that has been unemployed for approximately 18 months due to a neck in-
jury and failed surgery. Rosenstock Legal (www.rosenstocklegal.com) learned of Jawad’s situation
and wanted to help. Rosenstock reached out to Zwan Family Charity to help them make this all work.
The entire case was financially sponsored by Rosenstock. Zwan Family Charity was able to connect
them with the Batra Hospital in Delhi (www.batrahospitaldelhi.org) where Jawad had his testing and
imaging done. He was treated and discharged.
Jawad tells us that his neck pain is gone and he is ready to work again.

Shabnam
Shabnam is an Afghan teenager who lost her eye during insurgent activity in Logar Province. She
underwent primary surgery in Pakistan. However, her prosthetic eye did not fit well and she had a
chronic infection from poor prosthetic care due to a lack of education.
Friends of Shabnam’s father had collected donations for her care and accommodation in Delhi.
Zwan Family Charity connected Shabnam with Batra Hospital (www.batrahospitaldelhi.org) which
is a charitable trust. The work is very good but the cost is a bit lower than other hospitals which
allows funds to be stretched a little further.
All Shabnam’s medical care, her new eye and her food & accommodation was covered by
donations received from her friends. Zwan Family Charity was able to purchase Shabnam’s round
trip plane ticket for her.
Shahram was 6 months old when he stuck his hands in
boiling water. He has had a few surgeries in Kabul but
the results have been substandard. The contratures have
caused him to lose the ability to hold a pencil so he may
have to leave school soon. This would be such a loss as
he is smart, charasmatic and has the potential to do great
things.
We are raising funds to send him to the Rehabilitation
Center for Children (www.rcfc.in) in Kolkata, India. The
RCFC has a great track record for helping children like
Shahram.
We have been selling jars of honey and organic
lipbalm (www.cocabee.com) locally to raise funds; for
those around the world who wish to make a donation, the
link for Shahram’s GoFundMe page is:
https://www.gofundme.com/8gqs6544
Shahram is a lovely little boy, we appreciate all support
given to help him get his surgery so that he can return to
school and continue his studies.

30 Hour Marathon Fundraiser in Aid of Qambar Camp
Zwan Family Charity in conjunction with Raven Rae Resources are still
working to raise the funds required to purchase tarps for 1300 Internally
Displaced families living at Qambar Camp in Kabul, Afghanistan. Raven
Rae Resources hosted a 30 Hour Ultra Marathon and raised $8089 (or 323
tarps)!! The Ultra Marathon ended with a superb BBQ entirely provided
by Taylors International (www.taylors-international.com) The steak and
lobster tails made us forget we were in Afghanistan!
Dave Lavery and his team already distributed their first two batches of tarps to the impoverished families at Qambar IDP
Camp; they are proving to not only keep the residents warm and covered from the bitterly cold weather but also provide
valuable shelter during the sweltering summer! The Nomad Group (www.nomadconceptsgroup.com) have stepped up
and provided us the tarps at a charity price and tirelessly arranged the logistics of moving the tarps from Pakistan and
over the border into Afghanistan.
Below are photos of Dave, Nomad International and Zwan Family Charity.
Donations can be made via our website http://www.zwanfamilycharity.org/donate-here/ or our GoFundMe
page: https://www.gofundme.com/qxf9frx8 All major credit/debit cards, PayPal and cash are accepted.

2nd Annual Grand Raffle Draw 2016
The award winning entertainer, Stevie Spit, flew from Spain to Afghanistan to host an evening of great entertainment at
our 2nd Annual Grand Raffle Draw 2016. He provided music, comedy and loads of laughter for the evening at the
Q Kabul Hotel. We raised a total of 7964.33USD including 1200USD on the night!! It was an utterly amazing evening
enjoyed by the International Community - we hope to invite Stevie back in the very near future.
During Stevie’s visit to Afghanistan, we took
him to meet some of the children who he has
raised money for by holding fundraising events
in Spain. The children instantly took to him and
he spent a wonderful afternoon getting to know
the children!
Stevie, thank you from all of us at Zwan Family
Charity, the children you help and their families
for all your tireless fundraising, we greatly
appreciate all you do for us!
A special THANK YOU to Q Kabul Hotel (www.qkabul.com) for hosting our Second
Annual Grand Raffle Draw.
A HUGE thank you to Black Cat (www.afghanblackcat.com) who rocked the house
with its first ever fashion accessory show. Black Cat donated our third raffle prize
which was a gorgeous ladies clutch handbag. They also donated 10% of gross sales that
evening back to Zwan Family Charity.
Michelle, Janet, Mara, Fritzi and Jim had everyone smiling and laughing and put the
audience in the mood to buy!!
It was a GREAT night!!
Fundraisers!
Sweet Megan McCarty stepped up and held our first US fundraiser. Megan is a Mary Kay Consultant in Montana. She held a
Facebook Mary Kay party and donated 10% of her profit to a
woman’s cause. In the end, she sold face washes, hand creams,
lipstick and eye creams to bring us a donation of 15USD.
She donated directly to Deba & Nageena.
Since the party, she has given birth to a beautiful baby girl….Zwan
Family Charity wishes her all the best for the rest of her life and
the life of her precious daughter!
Contact Megan if you wish to hold a Mary Kay party.
Our second US fundraising event was a garage sale held in Rich-
mond, Texas. The labor involved was intensive but Carole
Wolenski and Monica Wolenski along with little Natalia Tingle,
stuck it out in the rain and heat...Thank you!!!
We also want to thank Carole Wolenski, Sarah, Sandri (our
youngest donor to date...only 6 year old!) and the AuBuchon
Family for all the many, many donations!
In total the Garage Sale raised 880USD!!
On the 21st April 2016, Northgate
(www.northgatehotel.com) opened its doors to Zwan Family
Charity. The evening consisted of a delicious Italian dinner
with Karaoke blasting in the dining room and darts being
played in the Sports Room!
Zwan Family Charity had the opportunity to introduce itself
to many new future supporters.
Some of our attendees stayed the night and enjoyed a hearty
brunch the next morning followed by manicures, pedicures
and massages at the onsite Beauty Salon!
The evening was a success - we sold $450 worth of raffle
tickets for our 2nd Annual Grand Raffle Draw 2016!
