Dr. BeakerSupplies:

Costume for Dr. Beaker

Hello, I believe we met last time. I am Dr. Beaker. So pleased to see you once again. I have been having a hard time in my lab. I wish I knew what is going wrong with my experiment. It is bubbling and hissing and whistling. (Makes the sounds as he says the words.) It is not sup-posed to do that! I do not know what is wrong. I just do not know. Speaking of knowing, did you know that God knows all about you? He does not have to ask like I have to ask. He just knows everything there is about each one of you. I must go see if I can figure out my experiment. Remember, God knows all about you!

Dr. Beaker’s LabImpossible Counting

Supplies:Jar Jelly beans or other candy Jar of sand Black paper

Preparation: Place the jelly beans in a jar. Before doing the experiment, make sure that you count how many jelly beans are in the jar and write it down in a secret place. Who thinks they know how many jelly beans are in this jar? (Show the jar.) I am going to give everyone a chance to guess. Let the children take turns sharing their guesses out loud. (After everyone has guessed, take them out and count them out loud if you have a small jar and the time. Announce the number of jelly beans.)

Do you think that God knew how many jelly beans were in the jar? When I was pouring them into the jar, do you think he counted them? Actually, He just automatically knew how many I had poured in. He did not have to count them.

3

Look at the person’s hair next to you. How many hairs do you think are on his/her head? If I had you start to count them, do you think you could? Did you know that the Bible tells us that God even knows how many hairs are on our head? (Matthew 10:30)(Pour a little sand out on the black piece of paper.) How many grains of sand do you see? (Try to isolate one grain so the children will understand what a grain is.) Can you count how many grains of sand are on the paper? How many are left in the jar? God knows exactly how many grains of and are on the paper. He knows how many are left in the jar. He even knows how many grains of sand are on an entire beach!

Bible StoryDavid Anointed to be King1 Samuel 16:1-13

Supplies:Crown (can make from paper using pattern on page 11)Copy of the eight boys (page 8-9)

Preparation: Print and cut out the boy patterns on page 8-9. Place them in descending order. Do you remember that we learned about David, a shepherd boy? Not only did David watch sheep but he also liked to play the harp and sing songs. He wrote lots of songs that are in the Bible. They are called psalms.

One of the psalms he wrote talks about how God knows all about us. David said that God knew when he sat down and when he got up. He knew all the thoughts David had. He knew when he was lying down. He knew when he was going somewhere. He knew what words he would speak. Do you know that just like God knew all about David, He also knows all about you? David started out as a boy taking care of sheep. But God had other plans for David. He knew what was best for David. (Pull out the crown.) What do I have here? Who wears a crown? Yes, a king. The man who was king when David was a boy was not a good king. He did not obey God. Because he did not obey God, God wanted a different king. If you were going to choose someone to be king, what kind of person would you choose? Would you choose someone that is old? Would you choose someone that is strong? Would you choose someone that is kind or mean? (Let the children tell you about the person they would choose.) God chose someone to be the next king that some people would not have chosen. First, he sent Samuel to a man’s house. That man’s name was Jesse. The reason that Samuel went to Jesse’s house was because Jesse had many sons. And one of those sons would be king.

Lesson 2

4

Samuel saw the first son, Eliab. (Show the children the largest boy.) He thought that surely this one would be king. But God told him no. He told him not to look at how tall he was or what he looked like. That what was important was what was inside him. What was in his heart. That means was he kind? Did he love and obey God? So Samuel went to the next brother, Abinadab. (Show the second boy.) But God said no, that he was not the one. Next Samuel looked at Shammah. (Show the third boy.) But this was not the one either. Samuel kept looking at each son but God kept saying no. (Go through each boy as you talk and show the children that this was not the right boy.) Samuel asked the father if these were all his sons. Jesse, the father, said there was one more son watching the sheep in the field. Who do you think that son was? David. So David came in from the field. He was the youngest of all the brothers. No one thought that God would want him to be king. But when Samuel saw him, God told him that David was the one that would one day be king. God knows us inside and out. He knew David inside and out. God knew that David would make a good king. It would be a long time before David would actually be king. But God had

started to get him ready to do this important job.

PrayerThank Jesus for knowing each child. Thank him for knowing all about them and caring for them.

Lab TimeGrowing Capsules

Supplies: Growing capsules (one per child or small group of children) Clear container Warm water

Place the capsule in a clear container.

We are going to put some water over this little capsule. We do not know what it will turn out to be. Does anyone have a guess? We will let it set

5

for awhile then come back and see what it has grown into.

Pour the water over the capsule. The capsule will take approxi-mately five minutes to grow to its full size. Go on to another experi-ment and keep checking back at the progress of the capsule. If you “play” with the capsule, the process will go quicker.

What did you find? What had your capsule grown into?

Do you ever wonder what you will be like when you grow up? Did you know that God has a plan for your life? He knows all about you. God knows what you will be like when you are grown. You can trust Him with your life, because He knows all about you.

Fingerprints

Supplies: White piece of paper for each child Ink pad Cleaning wipes Magnifying glass

Have each child make a set of fingerprints. To make a good fingerprint, have the child press his finger onto the ink pad and roll it to either side. Then, place the finger on the white paper and roll it from one side to the other.

After making the fingerprints, use a magnifying glass to examine the prints.

Did you know that no two people in the world have the same fingerprint? Each person has a different finger-print. All of your fingerprints are different. But did you know that if God looked at a fingerprint, He would know whose fingerprint it is? He knows about each one of us. He knows everything there is to know about us. Isn’t God amazing?

Circle TimeHave the children sit in a circle. Go around the circle and have each child tell what he/she wants to be when they grow up.

Remind the children that God knows all about them. He knows the things that they dream of being when they grow up.

Supplies:Bagels Cream cheese Thin carrot slices Raisins Plastic knife Paper plates

Place a bagel half on a paper plate. Spread the cream cheese on the bagel. Use the raisins to make eyes on the bagel. The hole is for the nose. Use raisins to make a smiling face. Then, make some “wild” hair on top of the bagel using the thin carrot slices.

Discuss with the children how God knows every hair on each child’s head. (Matthew 10:30)

CraftCrown for a Future King

Supplies:Poster board or construction paper Crown pattern (page 11) Scissors Adhesive jewels Markers Tape

Preparation: Enlarge the crown pattern to make a child-sized crown. Cut the crowns out of paper.

Have the children decorate their crowns using the adhesive jewels and markers. When finished, size the crowns for their heads and tape the ends together.

GameFind the Hidden Toy

Supplies:Small toy

Hide the small object and let the children try to find it. Or take turns letting a child hide the object and the other children look for it.

Discuss with the children how nothing is ever hidden from God. He knew exactly where the hidden object was.

Activity PageCopy the “Seven brothers for David” (in black and white) page for each child. Have them circle seven brothers for David and color them.

Creative PlayKing Coronation
