Monash University Library Bibliography: Geoffrey Blainey Introduction This bibliography updates Geoffrey Blainey : A Bibliography, by Anne Macaulay, Monash University Library, 1985. I set out with the objective of making it a comprehensive bibliography of works by and about Geoffrey Blainey published to the end of 2000. It soon became clear that the sheer size of publication would make this a challenging task, and I now qualify the scope of the project by saying that it is the most comprehensive bibliography of works by and about Geoffrey Blainey to date. I have attempted to list all the editions of Geoffrey Blainey's books, and in all formats produced, which in some cases has included motion pictures and videorecordings. I have not listed every newspaper column written by or about Geoffrey Blainey. Nevertheless, with the exception of "Letters", a very big representation of newspaper articles has been included for the peak topics in Geoffrey Blainey's work. Often, a report in a newspaper has been the only published source about a speech or conference paper delivered. Similarly, a big selection of book reviews has been included, but they are difficult to trace and inevitably some will have been missed. Where details of interest have been found, or for purposes of clarification, annotations have been made. Part 1, Works by Geoffrey Blainey , consists of a section listing prefaces, forewords or introductions to other works arranged alphabetically by author or title, followed by reviews, newspapers and journals edited. It concludes with a section on his writings and edited works, arranged chronologically by publication date within broad topic areas, entitled "The Themes". Part 2, Works about Geoffrey Blainey , consists of a section on introductory works, followed by reviews in publication date order of the books reviewed. It concludes with a section entitled "Responses" to "The Themes", where material is arranged alphabetically by author or title within the broad topic areas. Acknowledgments I wish to thank Professor Graeme Davison for suggesting that the updating of a bibliography about Geoffrey Blainey would be a timely and useful exercise to undertake. Deborah Gare's enthusiastic support encouraged me to proceed at that point. My thanks also to Professor Geoffrey Blainey for his interest in the project, his willingness to help and for providing some items and annotations. Professor Edward Lim, University Librarian, Monash University Library and the Library Research Committee for funding the project. Finally, to a number of colleagues, without whose assistance this project would not have been possible. Grace Giannini - Compiler Monash University Library March 2001.

Introduction This bibliography updates Geoffrey Blainey : A Bibliography, by Anne Macaulay, Monash University Library, 1985.

Part 1, Works by Geoffrey Blainey, consists of a section listing prefaces, forewords or introductions to other works arranged alphabetically by author or title, followed by reviews, newspapers and journals edited. It concludes with a section on his writings and edited works, arranged chronologically by publication date within broad topic areas, entitled "The Themes".

Part 2, Works about Geoffrey Blainey, consists of a section on introductory works, followed by reviews in publication date order of the books reviewed. It concludes with a section entitled "Responses" to "The Themes", where material is arranged alphabetically by author or title within the broad topic areas.

Acknowledgments

I wish to thank Professor Graeme Davison for suggesting that the updating of a bibliography about Geoffrey Blainey would be a timely and useful exercise to undertake.
