First things first……DAMN it’s Hot! Riding this month has been down-right brutal, nice tan lines but, I feel like I’ve been riding the highway to hell! Sunscreen and wa-ter have become this Vodka Girl’s 2 new best friends. We spent the majority of the month exploring seeking out

the best places to ride. Not for bike night! I’m talking about great places within reach for a day trip. Something new and

refreshing a bit removed from the same old same old. Stay tuned in the coming months for some fantastic hot spots to ride to! After all, with all good things in life it is not about the destination but the journey that really matters.

The month of August always feels like the calm before the storm. It’s always ridiculously hot, humid, and more often than not rainy as hell! This month I hope Mother Nature plays nice, delivering us with crystal blue skies illuminating a crisp sea breeze. Helping to ensure the calm part of our adventure, knowing that the month of September is all about the storm. September puts us smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Season keeping us all glued to our Doppler Radar and wondering who is the next victim. I am not one to worry or ignite a prepared-ness plan but I do pay attention, so I know what kind of boots to wear. So perk up, the heat wave will be over before you know it! I look forward to all that lies ahead and seeing you all out on the road.

Stay Between the Ditches & Keep the Shiny Side Up!

For Summer, my Sista Child! Happy Birthday I Love You! Life is Better Because U are In IT!!

WHY HELMET LAWS SHOULD’T MATTER

F ourth of July weekend should be all about celebrating the freedom we Americans enjoy as a people. For me, that meant riding my motorcycle at a brisk pace through coastal

Marin and Sonoma counties in Northern California, and then floating for many hours in the cool Russian River. For Philip Contos, a member of the Onondaga, NY ABATE chapter, that meant riding his Harley helmetless to an anti-helmet protest rally. What was probably a mellow group ride turned into a nightmare when Contos had to stop suddenly, apparently over-braking, fishtailing and then getting thrown over the handlebars. He suffered a fractured skull and was dead at the scene. The state patrol said he would have survived had he been wearing a helmet. That his death was sadly ironic is indisputable. That he was a warrior for bikers’ rights isn’t.I am not writing this to advocate for helmet laws. I’m asking, rhetorically, why we even need them in the first place. I understand that Americans cherish their freedom and don’t like being told by government what to do, but there are lots of dangerous activities that aren’t outlawed in 20 states the way riding helmetless is. As far as I know, you can run with scissors, juggle scorpions, ride laps in your closed garage or barbeque indoors in California or New York. But why would you want to?We all know, except for those with a high capacity for self-delusion, that helmets greatly reduce the incidence of head injury. We also know that most helmets are impacted on the chin bar or temple in crashes. We also know that the alleged disadvantages of helmet use—discomfort, reduced hearing and visibility and risk of neck injury are either nonexistent or exaggerated. And yet, riders in states without helmet laws use their helmets less than 50 percent of the time. Why? Nobody will say why they don’t want to wear a helmet, although my suspicion is that it has to do with the orthodoxy of the Harley-Davidson-oriented cruiser culture; my grandpa didn’t wear a helmet, my friends don’t wear helmets, so I don’t need one either. Sportbikers aren’t immune to the siren song of riding helmetless, but I think they just like to show off how fearless they are.Why they prefer riding helmetless is seldom

vocalized. Instead, the helmetless biker will quickly elevate the conversation to a philosophical (and interesting) one about the rights of man, the role of government, the fate of free men in a Nanny State. But I have yet to hear a cogent argument as to why it’s a good idea to ride bare-headed. Just making a short trip? Many crashes happen a short distance from home (when I found that out I moved, yet I keep crashing). Maybe you won’t be going that fast or you’re staying off the Interstate? That’s another absurdity—most crashes happen on city streets, at speeds under 30 mph. “I’ll just be taking it easy today.” Silliness. If we could pick what day we were going to crash, we’d just stay at home and ride on the day we know we’re not crashing on (if you’re scheduling a crash, mid-week is great, as the emergency rooms have shorter lines). Anti-helmet-law advocates rightly point out that

helmets don’t prevent crashes. True enough, but they sure do lessen the consequences. Face it—you can’t tell anybody it’s logical to ride without a helmet (and other safety gear) every time you ride.So I can say, confidently, that helmet laws don’t affect me. Why? Because no matter where I am, from Cozumel to Cuyahoga, I am going to be wearing a full-face lid. I could care less if I have the “right” to ride without. I could jab a golf tee into my eye as well, but I won’t be heading to

an AGOTE (Association to jab GOlf Tees in my Eye) meeting anytime soon. I’ll be riding my motorcycle. How do we keep “The Man” off our backs and get helmet laws repealed in 50 states? By getting helmet usage up to 80 percent or better so that the benefits of a law would disappear. If the general public—81 percent of whom think helmet use should be mandatory—saw us wearing helmets, they would leave us alone (so long as we also had acceptably quiet exhausts, but that’s a discussion for another day). Believe it.So please just wear your freakin’ (and full-face) helmet. There are many more motorcycle-related issues, like insurance discrimination, lane-sharing and use of public land that could productively harness your energy.

MS. MARLEY & HER HARLEY

he situation’s I hear, see and live in a 24 hour period is by lack of a better definition,

insane. One simply cannot make this kind of stuff up. Sitting on my girlfriend Carmella’s screened lanai; sipping coffee we read an online news story in complete shock and disbelief. Our friend, a 41 year old, wife, mother and grandmother was missing. Spurning in shock and rat-tled to the core we called her hus-band, this was no joke she has been gone for over a week. With noth-ing left for her family and friends to do but, pray, sit and wait. Lean on each other, press the ones who know something to speak to the authorities, exert all efforts to find our loved one, our Guerrero. Looking back as her friend all the warning signs were there, an overindulgent addictive person-ality had finally gotten the better of her. For Carmella & I, this is not the beautiful woman we knew and loved, her photo did not even come close to reflecting the vivacious woman who loved to laugh and was a fantastic cook. Yet, the image painted a seedy tale of another lost soul labeled a drug addict. Now at eight days missing, the police tell us, that it is a good sign, she must just be binged out somewhere and sooner or later she will surface. It gives you hope yet ignites another layer of questionable doubt.Knowing her, we all believe that this just cannot be and the detec-tives should be looking harder! This is not the behavior of our Jennifer, our Jennifer would never leave her family, her car, her belongings, our Guerrero would worry about her family and find a way home, she would call, walk something. But she would make it back to us. No matter what, our Jennifer would come home. Drugs have changed her in some ways but the love of her family could never be mis-placed, she would never just leave,

she would always come home. But, to law enforcement, the pat-tern of drug use shows that the person we know is not the per-son we are looking for, we do not know this gril. It is just so hard to believe yet so apparent that an-other person has fallen victim to the American Epidemic. It is estimated that nearly 12.8 mil-lion American aged twelve and older use illegal drugs regularly down 50 percent from its highest in 1979 of twenty five million. Many people believe that drug abuse is not their problem and that drug users belong to a segment of our society different from their own. When approximately 45 percent of Americans know someone with a substance abuse problem the ever apparent abuse is everyone’s prob-lem. In my research I found that the costs to society, both health and socially are staggering. Every man, woman and child in America pays an estimated $1,000 annually to cover the expenses that include, auto accidents, crime, unnecessary health care, extra law enforcement and to make up for the lost pro-ductivity resulting from substance abuse. Drug-related illness, death, and crime cost our nation more than $66.7 billion. I also read the entire 2011 National Drug Control Strategy that outlines so called five-year goals for reducing drug use and its consequences through a suggested “balance policy” of prevention, treatment, enforce-ment, and international coopera-tion, released on the White House Blog on May 11, 2010 at 6:15 AM. The Blog post by Gil Kerlikowske notes the desperate need to create a “safer, healthier nation.”In my experience and opinion as one of the 45% of Americans who knows more than one “someone” with a drug problem. I can honest-ly say that it isn’t rocket science to figure out that they are all abusing

the same things, NOT ONE THING, but several prescription pills, co-caine, marijuana and alcohol. Reck-lessly mixing and abusing. Our friend got addicted to something that is in medicine cabinets across the country and through her abuse she found herself in a horrific situ-ation. She ran around with other users just like her, and had pushed out most of her other friends. Fear-ing nothing, most certainly she found herself in seedy situations. She neglected her responsibilities and behaved like an addict. Our Jennifer although tough as nails, was still just, a delicate diminutive flower. So now we wait, wait for a call or a tap at the door, we wait for an an-gry addict to charge through the door to scold all of us in true Guer-rero fashion. We are all hopelessly waiting, searching and looking for our precious friend. We have weighed out the possibilities and began to prepare ourselves for the worst. For we are not searching for a drug addict, we are searching for Nevaeh’s Grandmother, Zackary and Hannah’s Mother, Josh’s Wife, a beloved, sister, daughter and one of my best friends. There are no words to describe the pain and guilt I feel inside. It is a sad tale all too familiar for some of us, a tale that hits way to close to home and makes you wonder how we ever got here. There is no greater shame than knowing and doing nothing.I think of you & pray every minute of every day! Please come home.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

To combat dehydration non-alcoholic drinks may be given in plenty. Coconut water, barley water,

sugarcane juice or glucose-water are the best. — www.pragyatv.com Dehydration is common during summer. It simply means shortage of water in the body. Every cell in your body needs water in order to function properly. An adult’s body weight is 60 per cent water, while an infant’s is up to 80 per cent water.

Causes: Insufficient liquid intake - Excessive loss of liquids due to diarrhea, sunstroke or vomiting.

Symptoms: Furious thirst. Loss of elasticity of skin and wrinkling. Diminished muscular endurance Dizziness, nausea Drowsiness, headache Tachycardia (galloping heart rate) Increased body temperature Extreme exhaustion

Tips to Combat:Non-alcoholic drinks may be given in plenty. Coconut water, barley water, sugarcane juice or glucose-water are the best. A pinch each of sugar and salt in a cup of water. Water flushes wastes from the body through urine. Take Nimbupani during prolonged exercise. Bel, Sauf water, Aam Ka Pana, Khas Khas Sharbat help curb appetite. Plump up wrinkles with frequent fluid and seasonal vegetable. Watermelon, sweet melon quench thirst. Bananas are recommended for water and potassium depletion. Chamomile tea has the added benefit of being a natu-ral pain reliever so it helps relieve the stomach cramps that often accompany dehydration. Decaffeinated teas are also excellent.

Warning: In severe cases of dehydration, intravenous fluids are essential, and immediate hospitalization is a must.

Health Tips: Bring 2 cups of water to boil for 2-4 minutes in a stainless steel pan (do not use aluminium)and put it aside. Then add ½ tsp of whole coriander seeds, 1/2 tsp, whole fennel (saunf ) , two 1 inch slices of fresh ginger root and let it soak. After 10 minutes strain out the spices and pour the water into a thermos flask. Sip throughout the day for quenching your thirst.

Once again, it’s that mystical, magical time of year, time for the 39th Annual Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run. The dates are September 15th-18th. For those going down early, there will be a Bar to Bar Poker Run (Duval Crawl) on Thursday night.

KC'S CORNER TABLE

42 BRIDGES TO PARADISE42 BRIDGES TO PARADISE

The Official Poker Run begins Friday morning, September 16th at 8:00 am, with sign-up at both North and South stores, and ends at 5:00 pm Saturday September 17th, with awards between 10:00-11:00pm. There will be a bike show and vendors on Duval and Greene Street. Sunday, September 18th, there will be a Breakfast Brunch Survivors Party in Key West. Since the Key West Poker Run is our favorite event of the year, I like to get started early, so I register on-line at www.miamiharley.com. It’s quick and easy. I always pick two packages that include a Poker Run entry card, “T” shirt, pin, and parking wrist-band. When picking up our packages at the North store I get extra “T” shirts for me and a few spaghetti strap women’s tops for Bianca. Hotel reservations are never an issue because we always stay at the same hotel, and they provide a form to make your reservations for the next year’s Poker Run, so we’re always assured of exactly which room we get. Mid-July I take a run down to Peterson’s North Store and get 10 quarts of Screamin’ Eagle Syn 3 oil and filters for both the Road King and Bianca’s Sporty. Then in mid-August I’ll take an entire day to do the annual servicing of each bike. Crankcase oil and filter, tranny and primary on both bikes, plus lube the cables, belt check, primary chain adjustment, the whole nine yards. Now we’re starting to really get psyched about the run. Then early September, a good coat of wax to protect from the salt air in the Keys. We’re ready! After Labor Day, the daily countdown begins. For about 10 years now we’ve been making a little vacation out of the Key West Poker Run and have been going down on Tuesday. So Monday night it’s time to load up the saddlebags in anticipation of good weather for the ride. The ride down has always been my favorite part of the run. Nothing in the Lower 48 can compare to riding the Overseas Highway all the way to Key West. Jerry on his Ultra Classic and Kym on her Road King meet us here, and we are on the road at 7:00 am sharp. The Turnpike is always a pain in the ass, but once past Bird Road the vast majority of brain-dead morons have exited and everything calms down. Rounding the big bend from the Turnpike to US 1 is exhilarating! A quick stop at Last Chance Saloon to stretch our legs and take a few photos, then it’s off to Key Largo. During the worst of the construction on the 18 Mile Stretch we would take Card Sound Road, but the last few years we have been taking “Dead Man’s Alley” to view the progress (mostly lack thereof ) on the widening project and see how our tax dollars are being misspent.

Finally hitting the sweeping right turn into Key Largo we can just relax and take a leisurely cruise for the next 105 miles. Our breakfast stop is Harriette’s at mm 95.5, where they serve the best breakfast in the upper Keys. As it is only a little after 9:00 am, we have plenty of time to enjoy our bacon, eggs, biscuits and coffee. Once through Plantation Key and Tavernier, we start to experience the best scenery the Florida Keys have to offer. We take our time and absorb all the beauty on both Oceanside and Bayside. Channel # 5 Bridge linking Lower Matecumbe to Long Key offers a stunning view. One more stop at the little Stop n’ Rob at mm 68 for a cold bottle of water, and we’re on our way to “The Island” at mm 54 for our first cold ones of the day. The only problem with stopping at “The Island” is that it is so gorgeous and relaxing that it’s tough to get up and leave! The final stop on the ride down is the Tiki Bar at “Sugarloaf Lodge”, mm 17, for the best Pina Colada and fish and chips in all the Keys. From there, it is just a 15 minute jaunt into Key West, and we arrive right around 3:00-3:30 pm, like clockwork. After unloading the saddlebags I make a quick run to the Publix for some supplies for the room, then it’s the glorious pool at the Best Western Key Ambassador for some R & R. Over the next four days we hit downtown in the morning so Bianca can do some shopping or we visit an attraction or two, lunch at Caroline’s on Duval St, then back to the pool during the heat of the afternoon. I can’t wait to have the baked stuffed shrimp at the “Half Shell Raw Bar” for dinner. Friday morning, of course, we go to the last stop and draw our cards. The only thing I do not like about Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run for Charity is the lack of participation by the majority of people that go to Key West that weekend. Less than 20% of the people actually buy Poker Hands and contribute to the Peterson Family’s favorite charities. I’ve talked to people there that don’t even know that there is a Poker Run for Charity going on, and just call it “Bike Week”. This needs to change. Anyone who can afford a weekend in Key West can surely afford to buy a Poker Hand and be a contributor. So screw the towel-heads selling “T” shirts on Duval Street, and make sure you buy at least one Poker Hand and a few official “Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run” “T” shirts. You’ll be glad you did.

Ride safe, KC

Summer is here & I’m spending it in Sun Valley Idaho, Hi I’m Chef Mike Trost. I’m a Personal Chef who has lived in Los Angeles, New York City and Fort Lauderdale. Throughout my years I have traveled to over 45 countries and really love spending time in Spain. It’s a lot

like Florida; great sea food, fresh vegetables, white sandy beaches and lots of people on vacation overindulging till the wee hours in search of culinary treats and liberal beverages. I love food, cooking it, eating it and sharing it with friends and family. There is no better way to get to know someone, than sitting around a table sharing a meal versing our lives stories. This summer I am cooking for a lovely family, their rule is, “Keep It Simple, Less is Better & Presentation isEverything!” This month I’m sharing with you my Red Pepper & Coconut Bisque and Turkey Sliders. Two quick and easy recipes you’ll love to make and share. Very versatile in that you can serve them hot or cold and whether prepared ahead or made last minute, the end result is fantastic! Stay tuned in the coming months for more mouth watering recipes.

Our FIRST introduction is by far, one of the most unique Owner Built creations we have ever featured. Walking into Service at Peterson’s recently I had the opportunity to meet one employee Joel Mercado. Not knowing Joel I was intrigued when I read his captivating story at the legendary site Bikernet.com. There is an old saying, “You don’t know how to live until you almost die.” I am not sure who deserves credit but, it’s fitting all the same. Sometimes the greatest things in life come on the edge of destruction, through an “Evilution”. In Joel’s words, “Born of a combination of desire, passion, survival, friendship, skill and a dab of raw human kindness. I’ve loved motorcycles from the minute my uncle Willie took me on his Ultra through the streets of Spanish Harlem. I graduated high school at 17 and joined the Marine Corps never having had the chance to learn to ride. After moving to Florida at 21 years of age, it finally happened. I bought a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 with help from my best friend. It started a fire that burns brightly to this day.” After a combination of mistakes and bad decisions Joel found himself at a low, living on a friends couch, bartend-ing and hustling just to get by. He found himself obsessively watching Realty TV about building motorcycles. Sick of the life he was leading Joel told himself, “These guys aren’t that much smarter than I am, I can do that.” After a little research Joel enrolled full time in a welding course at Palm Beach Community College where over the next year and a half he became certified in several processes including stick welding, MIG, TIG, Flux Core, plasma cutting and oxyacetylene welding, cutting and brazing. In 2005, Joel was headed to Datyona Beach to begin his educational endeavor at American Motorcycle Institute. Before heading out to make class that morn-ing at 7:00 am, he met his Mother for a kiss goodbye. She gave him $300 and a little bad news. His Father recently lost his job, had been evicted and was coming to meet him in Daytona. Having no place to live himself and $500 in his pocket, Joel was faced with more than a challenge. He set off for the three and a half hour ride with nothing to do but think. After some Hooter’s, drafts and wings, the ramifications of his predicament set in, he was for lack of better words screwed. About that time his phone rang, it was his dear friend “Taxi Mike” who gave him the name and number of a friend and said, “Call him and he’s going to give you directions to his house, he said you can crash there, he’s a friend I met in Costa Rica, I told him you’re family.” With a bit of uncertainty, Joel responded, “But I have Dad too.” Taxi Mike reassured him he had nothing to worry about, “Just call him.”From Joel’s own account, the next phone call changed his life forever. Father in tow, they spent the next eight months living in New Smyrna Beach with the most gener-ous family he had ever met. For repayment of their tremendous gesture, he took their 1990 Fat Boy in desperate need of some TLC and began fixing it up while benefit-ing from the extension of the classroom it provided. After graduating in January 2006, Joel graduated from AMI and bought a used gloss black 2003 Night Train con-tinuing his love affair with the open road until a horrific accident in March 2007 that nearly took his life. Through that traumatic experience and the generosity of those around him, Joel set out and achieved something truly legendary. A complete engineering feat in his Evilution. Sitting down this month with no photogra-pher, no designer, no company at all I found myself for the first time ever at a complete loss. It isn’t too often of an occurrence but, I know there are a lot of smiling faces all the same that the big bossy bitch mouth was for once, finally shut! After I gathered together all of the work I had compiled for this issue I found that I wasn’t completely screwed, only smacked a round a bit, I man-aged to pull my brain out of my ass and get it all back together to attempt knocking it out of the park. I’ll let you all be the judge of that! The number of motorcycle endorsements attained has been consistently growing over the past few years. Whether for recre-ation, sport or to save a few dollars at the pump, more and more motorcyclist are hit-ting the streets daily. Getting familiar with their newly-found passion there are a few lessons to learn. After turning and parking, the most notable lesson is, if your bike isn’t customized you might as well rented it!This month we take a look at three totally different customized creations. Including a recent Peterson’s Harley-Davidson South completely rebuilt 2011 FLTRU Road Glide Ultra ®. This is the third bike Peterson’s has built for this customer who enjoys big bore engines and tuned exhausts! This big beast of a rambler was stripped down of all stock parts and tailored to suit the Owner’s tastes with a Barnett Scorpion Billet clutch, Wild One’s 10” Ape Hangers with H-D chrome controls, H-D Diamond Back Braid Control Cables, and H-D “Get A Grip” handgrips. The gauges were switched out to Dakota Digital with black bezels fitted in an H-D color-matched inner fairing and the wheels were changed to the H-D Mirror Chrome “Agita-tor” with Dunlop Rubber. Then they tore off the seat and called on Danny Gray Custom Seats for a custom leather design complete with dyed ostrich inlays and matching red stitching. While they were tearing things apart, they made a call to Jackster Cycle Art of Cutler Bay, Florida for the custom paint scheme and graphics making this big boy not just another Road Glide but, a com-pletely customized creation.

The final bike we are featuring is a one-of-a-kind extensively redesigned custom creation by one of the most creative moto-junkies we have ever met. In 2008 Vince Bullet, rolled into Hooter’s –Pem-broke Pines for their legendary Wednesday Night Bike Night and shocked us with his egocentric Bat-man Hayabusa. He continues to add motorcycles to his collection and most recently rode down to Miami for the Ducati shoot we had in June on an Italian hand built 1000CC 2009 MV Agusta F4. After the photographer nightmare we had to re-shoot this entire segment. Unbeknownst to us, Vince had again re-customized his Agusta F4 and taken it from an Italian themed dream to a sultry lady in red. Designed and developed with a single goal in mind: to be the best! The new F4 meets this objective by mating high performance and class, leading handling together with styling which sets the new stan-dard in the world of super sport motorcycles. The incredible perfor-mance braking system by Bremer only enhances this bike and its Ital-ian Ferrari red paint custom paint defining beauty.Fire up the 1078 and you’ll hear the great sounding roar from the organ pipe exhaust. Throttle and acceleration is breathtaking: 190 Horsepower at 12,200 RPM with a top speed at a scary 186 MPH. No mass produced street motorcycle can boast as many accolades as the MV Agusta F4, which is the absolute reference for performance, speed, and raw beauty. True to his eccentric nature, Vince added a few high end bells and whistles, with the front and rear view HD cameras for capturing those intense curves and lines of where the rims have been.

TheAmerican Cancer Society's most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2010: About 207,090 new cas-es of invasive breast cancer in women. About 54,010 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be found (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer). About 39,840 deaths from breast cancer (women)

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less than one in eight. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about one in 35. Numbers are going down and maybe attributed to finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2 and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Breast Cancer remains a leading type of cancer and is second only to lung cancer as a top cause of cancer deaths among women. But experts say that, despite these statistics, new research may soon help bring about a breast cancer cure. Though a magic bullet does not yet exist, many “women are al-ready being cured of breast cancer,” says Christy Russell, MD, an associate professor of medicine at the Keck School of

Medicine at the University of Southern California, chief of medi-cine at USC/Norris Cancer Hospital, co-director of the USC/Nor-ris Breast Center, and a spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society. “The women we are not yet curing are women who have stage IV breast cancers, or cancers that have spread to other organs. At least three-quarters who are diagnosed with breast cancer today have early breast cancer, and most will be cured.”

As Dr. Russell points out, there will be an estimated 25 deaths due to breast cancer for every 100,000 women per year in the United States. And the breast cancer death rate has steadi-ly decreased since 1990. This decrease has largely come about because of research aimed at developing therapies to detect and treat breast cancer more effectively.

In an effort to raise awareness to this horrible disease Seminole Casino Hollywood has created the Classic Pink Fest 2011, a weekend long event to raise money for the fight against this horrific disease. Please stay tuned for more information in the coming months. The event will be held October 14-16 in Hollywood.

1. What was your first experience with riding motor-cycles?My first experi-ence wasn’t until I moved to FL. I had just gone thru a divorce & was dating my current

husband Victor. I had never been allowed the chance to learn how to ride but, had always dreamed of it. Every time I would pass by a woman on a bike I would say ’you go girl’ I was so envious. My husband wanted to buy a bike so we purchased my first ride a 600CBR F4i (Honda) A good friend was teaching me how to ride on his 202 Hayabusa 1300cc. I didn’t leave the garage at first I didn’t touch the throttle, I just rolled the clutch in & out to get the feel of where it grabbed. Then we took it outside, he took the fairings off just in case I dropped it and he proceeded to run around the neighborhood behind me as I took my first ride. Two weeks after doing this he said “grab your bike and let’s go for a ride” and the rest is history….2. How did you end up racing motorcycles? Well my father used to race cars (pro-stock) when I was very young, and my step sister used to race a wheelie bar bike & so does my brother...So it is in my blood. 3. Do you have your own team? Tell me about them and your sponsors. My team name is Martinez Racing, but it just consists of me and my husband right now. My sponsors are, Redline Design (which is who did the graphics on the bike), AmSoil (MyRacingOil.com), RivtorMedia, HelpMeRide.Com (motorsports financing) & now I will have some more parts sponsors coming on board for my motor rebuild...Larry “Spider-man” McBride, Millennium Technologies, K&N Engineering, Cometic & Web Cams.4. What kind of bikes do you race? I started on my 1st bike which was the Honda, raced a few Suzuki GSXR 1000’s and then moved up to my current bike, my 2007Suzuki GSXR1300 Hayabusa. These are street bikes, but they have been modified to race on the drag strip.5. I know you are a breast cancer survivor, how do you compare that to your racing ,do you use that to help deal with your health issues? Well I just feel that if Breast Cancer didn’t kill me then I’m going to continue to do what I love to do...RACE MOTORCYCLES!! Racing is my release, it helps me relieve stress, and

as we all know stress can kill someone. So this, for me keeps my mind occupied and makes me happy, which in turn I think helps keep me healthy. Someone once asked me to define what drag racing means to me and I said this: It’s an intense, driving, overpower-ing force within, that only motorcycle drag racing fulfills. 6. What do your children think of mom drag racing bikes? I do have 2 children, Samantha and Victor They are scared for me, but at the same time they think it’s cool, especially when their friends say wow your mom drag races motorcycles...that’s so cool!7. What do you drive off the track?(car, truck??) do you just ride for enjoyment (bikes) and if you do, do you tend to find yourself leading the pack when out riding? My everyday driver is a Ford F-150 extended cab-2003. I turned my bike into a track only bike. So right now I don’t have a street bike :(Looking to get one someday soon. Maybe once I get back to work. Right now this takes what little bit of extra cash we have). When I do ride in the street I tend to stay in the pack. I have my little outbursts of speed but I mainly ride calm and cruise. 8. What is your husband’s feeling on your racing? I am married to Victor Martinez. He is the most supportive, kind, caring, funny person I know. Without him this would not be possible for me. 9. What is your favorite color? Hummsmm, Lets see, I don’t think I have one particular favorite. Since the BC of course it’s all about the pink, but I do favor deep metallic reds, burgundy’s candy red’s, also, metallic blue’s. 10. Tell me what was the scariest motorcycle riding experience on or off the track that you have experienced? actually trying to find a quiet (non-traffic)spot for me to practice launching the bike. Well never made it there. I tried to cross over a huge opening in the pavement and got caught up in the groove and went end over end. Lots of road rash later and a huge hole

in my knee that required 16 stitches. That was I’d say the scariest thing that happened to me so far. 11. What is your favorite charity to promote and some info as to what they do?Well since my bout with BC I have recently started my own foundation and I am in the process of getting my 501C (tax id). I met a MC in January called Bikers against breast cancer. They give out mini grants of $300.00 to patients in need. I was so inspired by this I wanted to do the same kind of fund raising!! I ran into walls everywhere I turned while I was in treatment. My hubby made to much money for us to receive food stamps, I could not receive my SS disability temporarily because my diagnosis for treatment was 6 to 9 months, and you have to be out of work a year or more to be eligible. Which is CRAZY if you’re diagnosed with any kind of life threatening you should be able to receive your benefits even if it’s only for a month !! It only takes 2 weeks to get so far behind on bills that you can’t get caught up...So I want to help others who need financial asst. My website is LeaMartinezFoundation.org or LeaMartinezRacing.com 12. Do you ever ask yourself “what in the world am I doing”? No not really, because it’s something I LOVE to do, and I giggle when I see someone older than myself drag racing(in their 60’s or older, grey hair) and I say I want to be just like them when I grow up !! 13. What is your main goal that you have set for yourself in the race world? To be the best drag racer I can possibly be. To go pro, and to raise awareness and funds for breast Cancer in the process. 14. What do you feel is your biggest accom-plishment so far in your life? Aside from my children, that would have to be beating breast cancer !!

Lea ‘Dream Catcher” Martinez is a 44 year old wife and mother of 2, she is originally from Dutches County NY, born to a stock car racer, quite certainly the fueling force behind her talent and competitive nature. In 2004 she moved to Florida and her racing legacy began. After multiple wins, Lea was named the “Fastest Female” from 2006 to 2008. She also took 1st Place in the Second Pistons vs. Rotors Race and was the March 2010 Money Winner at the Full Throttle Customs Bike bash. In October of 2009 Lea was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After taking a year from racing, a double mastecto-my with re-constructive surgery she is now cancer free and spends the majority of her time raising awareness. We had the chance to sit down with her recently and enjoy a moment in time with a glimpse of her story.

A suspect is led away by officers after the raid on the Wheels of Soul club-house on Market…Pac-Man, the big and bearded care-taker of the Wheels of Soul motorcycle club, was asleep on a mangy couch in-side the club when, suddenly about 6 a.m., federal agents swarmed through the clubhouse doors.“The next thing I know, a nice big gun was pointed at my face,” said Pac-Man, 47, a walrus-sized man who asked to be identified by his club nickname. “I said, ‘OK, OK, you ain’t got no prob-lems with me.’ “Acting on a federal racketeering indict-ment, dozens of FBI agents and ATF agents descended Tuesday on the “out-law” motorcycle club’s headquarters, located in busted-up buildings near 61st and Market Streets, in the shad-ows of the Market-Frankford El. The sweeping indictment, unsealed Tuesday in a federal court in St. Louis, alleges that 18 Wheels of Soul mem-bers from seven states - Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, Wis-consin, and Kentucky - are involved in murder, kidnapping, and the distribu-tion of crack cocaine. None of the al-leged murders or assaults were com-mitted in Philadelphia. Across the country, 15 members of the motorcycle club were arrested, officials said.“Today’s nationwide takedown had dis-rupted and dismantled the Wheels of Soul motorcycle outlaw gang by target

ing the senior leaders,” said FBI Spe-cial Agent in Charge Dennis Baker. The Philadelphia club is the “mother chapter” of the group, serving as the “governing body of the entire organiza-tion,” the indictment said.Several people were arrested Tuesday in the Philadelphia raids on warrants unrelated to the indictment, police said. James “Animal” Smith, 64, the national vice president of the club and highest-ranking club member arrested, was apprehended elsewhere, officials said. He had an initial appearance Tuesday in federal court in Philadelphia and awaits a detention hearing on Fri-day.Agents confiscated Smith’s Harley-Da-vidson and trunkloads of bagged evi-dence from the club. At least a rifle and a shotgun were taken from the club, a police officer said. All of the violence detailed in the indict-ment occurred in Midwestern cities, where the Wheels of Soul were involved in turf wars with other biker gangs.Since 2009, club members shot ri-vals in St. Louis, Chicago, and Gary, Ind., said the indictment. At a Chicago nightclub, a Wheels of Soul member stabbed a rival in the head.To build prestige and power, the gang trafficked in illegal narcotics, said the indictment.

SCENE AROUND

Every year we lose so many officers her is Florida, the numbers are stifling. Peterson’s Har-ley-Davidson is committed to helping the families left behind. On Sunday, July 10th we honored Detectives Amanda Haworth and Roger Castillo who were shot and killed while serving a felony warrant on a man wanted for murder. The detectives, along with two other members of a regional task force had gone to the home in Liberty City when things took a heated turn and gunfire broke out. Hundreds of motorcyclists turned out for the 2nd Annual Police Memorial Run. Riders left the Peterson’s Harley-Davidson in Miami Gardens just after 10 a.m. and rode to Peterson’s South store in Cutler Bay. Those families, including Castillo’s wife and three sons along with Haworth’s son and partner all attended the event. They said they were grateful for and honored by the huge turnout.Participants said they were happy to take part in such a worthy event.

“They definitely deserve everything we’re gonna get for them. I’m a retired police officer so I know it’s a very, very dan-gerous job,” said Don Abbatt, a member of the Miami chap-ter of the Latin American Motorcycle Association.“We all enjoy this and we’re gathering here to help the fami-lies,” said Olga Castellanos.“I’m here to celebrate the two cops who died for us, trying to protect where we live,” said Castellanos’ young son Samuel. Each rider donated $20 to participate and all of the proceeds will go to the fallen officers’ families.

Wanna thank everyone for making our sec-ond, Third Thursday Bike Night at Shovel-head Lounge in Longwood an even better success than the first. Lots of Budweiser and Jager shots were consumed. Thanks to the Jager Girls and Bikes & Beauties Editor Chris-tie for making it out. Dok celebrated his 29th birthday yet again, we crowned another hot babe in the modeling contest and Heather Jo sold more $2 Jager shots and we could have ever imagined. Alan Dale and Kno Mercy did a fine job keeping the tunes rolling and the Jammers playing some damn good Rock & Roll. All in all the third Thursday is shaping up to be a pretty damn fine affair. Thanks again to Jeff, Glenda and the Shovelhead crew for a job well done. See everyone on August 19th as we join with Boston Mikes Custom Bikes to throw another hellacious party.

SCENE AROUND> TILTED KILT - LAKE MARY, FL

> DAVENPORT, FL TO ORMOND BEACH, FL

As the headline reads, the Tilted Kilt in Lake Mary just off Lake Mary Blvd has it all. They show all the games, College, Pro, Soccer and even the UCF Fights. One might think this is an over 21 crowd. Yes, you must be 21 to drink… But, don’t think for a second The Tilted Kilt isn’t family friendly. They have family night on Tues-days, bikes and cars in the parking lot on Satur-days and the famous Tilted Kilt Girls all the time. Recently the Orlando Predator Cheerleaders showed up for a Saturday afternoon bike par-ty with Carolina Dave. The FOOD is way better than those other wing places. Do yourself a fa-vor and come on over to Currency Drive in Lake Mary and see for yourself just what the excite-ment is all about.

You might say we seemed to cover it all in July. We sure try, but can never catch all the cool bike events, concerts, car shows and everything that seems to happen in Cen-tral Florida. We started the month at Hard Rock Live in City Walk to catch the mighty Rising Up Angry in concert. We ventured several times to Route 46 in Sanford to Rock Out with Crashrocket, The Greg Billings Band and SWITCH. Route 46 Entertainment Complex is a great place to see a band and grab a full dinner or a late night snack. We hit a cou-ple of Carolina Dave’s Bike Nights at Porky’s, The Tilted Kilt & Shotski’s. We even ventured over to Daytona & Ormond Beach and hit Destination Daytona for the Outlaws Party and off to Main Street to hang at the infamous Boot Hill. A great place to get your Rock, on in Daytona is Sick Boys on Beach Street. Always a fun time at Sick Boys as we hung with some of the crew from HOG Radio, Nickoloff, HORNIT and the incredible painter PERIGO... We had to venture out to Davenport to Shamrock Pub/ Exit 55 to see my boys in Shoot to Thrill, The Ultimate AC/DC Tribute. What a great month it was and until next time keep the wheels straight ahead and Rock on my friends. You may never know where my LENS IS POINTED. Smile cause you are on candid camera. PEACE OUT – Bryan Lambert & Photobryan Photography.

ULI the UNRULYTHE HEAT IS ONTHE HEAT IS ON

Stifling. Between the blazing rays of the South Florida sun, the boiling asphalt, flirring air and the merciless heat of my motor, I sometimes actually under-stand why people down here drive like idiots - their brains are boiling over.

My buddy Bill has a cooler in his saddlebag for survival, I will install one in mine this week. July was brimming with par-ties of all coleur: clubs, anniversaries, weddings, births and birthdays and just becauses.. Fantastic opportunities to ride to places you don’t ride to on a regular basis, see people you thoroughly enjoy seeing and hugging, and see things, hear stories, you don’t on a regular basis, either. Some sto-ries I really don’t want to hear, like, Girls jumping and beat-ing up another girl - come on! How caveman can it get, how prehistoric. You know there’s something at odds when fan-tasy is made reality by, otherwise, everyday housewives or housewives-to-be, who blur the line between acceptable and unacceptable, acting out their “Green Goblin Syndrome”. Definitely, a total wake-up call for those SOA fans who live and breathe the TVseries, who ARE Gemma in their minds, strut like horny roosters, call themselves “badass” , ride their “bitch” instead of a bike and make gratuitous use of four let-ter words to show just how tough and “dangerous” they are. No fun once you lose teeth. Really. Stop and think. This is the 21st century. AD, not BC. Pure joy the rest of the way - my friend Sue celebrated her birthday for a whole long weekend. Flossie’s threw her a party, as they do (Pam and crew - you’re simply wonderful!), with banner, cake and the works...then off to Cagney’s until 4 in the morning...on Saturday we met at 9am ( don’t ask!) and rode South to Morningside and our wonderful, old break-feast ( no typo) temple, Jimmy’s Eastside Diner... 25plus bikes roaring in, something they haven’t seen since the ‘90s... from there we were off to Hollywood Beach, Oceans 11. What a wonderful weekend - the fun continued on all Saturday, riding and party-ing until Sue went ocean borne for some Sunday boating fun. The next weekend it was Connie’s turn! Happy Birthday, gorgeous people everywhere ! We went to the USMV MC, Abate , Wheels of Man, States MC ( Sooner or Later ROCKS!) and Mystic 7 Annuals, always well organized, put together with love, most enjoyable - thanks for your hospitality, every-one! Like to end up at Mickey’s, it’s just THE place where - to me- it’s most like it used to be in the ‘old days’, down to earth, bikers, bikes and here and there a barfight , mostly harm-less and all in good fun. Speaking of which, I praise all the bars and venues whose owners put in the effort and love to provide for their patrons! Bars reflect the personalities of their owners, I come to realize again and again. Bars and their owners who provide selflessly - from the NiteCap all the way to Mickey’s and way beyond, to Flossie’s, Cagney’s, Chit Chats, Luke’s , just to name a few, 10+ cheers to those

bar owners who, despite the gloomy econ-omy, go out and hire bands reliably , week after week, provide buffets for us - some of the best home cooking E-VER, from Cookie over BadBoy to Lisa Carter. There are others who can’t think of anything else but to cash in at every corner , they will even look you in the eye and say “NOBODY provides free food , not even for parties!” and expect me to organize an event and pay for the food out of MY pocket for THEIR benefit. No, seriously. But, in the long run, you can’t receive with-out giving. Maybe they will put their think-ing caps on and, eventually, learn that, after they have lost their patrons. Maybe. Talking about the economic situation world-wide , the political situation, debt and dead-

lock is making me ill and, probably, you as well. All we can do is look out for each other and keep our spirits and hopes up, do good things for each other and help where and whom we can. Together we are strong . Getting together to have a good time is anything but frivolous; it’s a necessity to over-come depression - emotionally and economically. So, let’s go out and support each other, our musicians and the venues who hire them.Have you made your plans for Key West, yet? Better hop to it! We’ll ride again, McGyver Honda Mike without the shop-ping cart this time, we’ll see if Keewy decides to take his scooter again or his beautiful old 76 PanShovel, if my Broom

will be up and running or I’ll take the Red Flyer, how many of us will go on the ride together - decisions, decisions. Fact is, we’ll all meet up on the Isle of Conch in the end. Great stuff.I have noticed that, of the many wonderful people I know, many are single and look-ing - guys as well as girls. So, I put my very own thinking hat on and had an idea. In an attempt to mix it up a bit, in August will begin a series of fun and games and com-petitions. Every Saturday it will be a differ-ent bar, so , you’ll get to know new places and people. So far Flossie’s, Cagney’s and Mickey’s are enthusiastically participating

- starting with Flossie’s on one of the Satur-day afternoons of August, TBA , where guys and gals who are SINGLE (those who are mar-ried or spoken for may watch,PLAY, or HELP -PLEASE!!! volunteers to the front!- and also participate, of course) are paired up for some biker games and competitions. The riders with

the most points in the end will receive a prize, and, hope-fully, everyone will have met someone new and made a new friend or ten or so.Please, look for details on FaceBook and flyers. It ain’t that hard. It’s the time to go pink again, as well, so, here’s a shout out to all ladies out there (note, it says “ladies”- no spitters or hit-ters) to mark your calendar for Sunday, October 16th for the Breast Cancer Ride & Party with Peterson’s Harley-Davidson & Seminole Casino, Hollywood! Kicked off with a Cocktail Party on Friday 10/14, Then Saturday 10/15 the Mammo-gram Mobile, Beer Pong, Wellness Fair & FIREMAN AUCTION!! Then Sunday we RIDE!!! ALL PINKED OUT for a Bikes & Beau-ties Style PARTY!!! Food, Vendors, Bikini Bike Wash, Bike Show, Bikini Contest, JUDGED BY YOU, THE LADIES!!! - sounds like fun, eh? And we have plenty of time to get ready for that. I love traditions. And I want a guy to wash my bike. “Don’t talk to me about Biker Tradi-tion! It’s nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash” - (almost Winston Churchill). He forgot “fun”. Let’s have us-some.Be safe out there, have each other’s backs and ride it like you stole it.

I love you, man. Uli

RIDING WITH ATTORNEY DANIEL [email protected]

ometimes, you gotta stop and smell the roses. This was one of those times. I could

barely contain myself. Ever since I was a kid, I want-ed a motorcycle. I even clipped baseball cards to the fender of my Schwinn Stingray bicycle, so they would flutter against the spokes to make motorcy-cle-like noises. I always wanted to ride – the further and longer, the better. Well, that didn’t happen for a long time. No particular reason, just the usual things: getting married, working, having kids, a mortgage, bills to pay, getting divorced, alimony, college tu-itions, yada, yada, yada. Finally, sometime between Hanukah and Christmas in 2003, I decided to stick my toe in the swimming pool of motorcycling and bought my first bike: a beautiful, pearl white Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom. My wife Carolyn and I literally forged our relationship on “Mr. Harley” riding together, two up, nearly 17,000 miles in what seemed like the blink of an eye. It’s a good thing we splurged on the fat, cushy touring seat.

The Sporty was a great bike, and we will al-ways share many fond memories of the times we spent on it. But, while we both loved our Sporty, over time I just couldn’t shake the vague feeling that something was missing in our motorcycling relationship, even after Carolyn got her own Sport-ster. The feeling was particularly strong whenever some Road King, Softtail or ElectraGlide would pass us by on the highway, seemingly effortlessly, as the wind buffeted us about on our trusty, but lighter and higher revving Sporty. So, with increasing frequency I found myself stopping by Petersons Harley Davidson on some pretense to “just look” at all the new “big” bikes. They were beautiful and impressive. It seemed that even if I were to get over the sticker shock, and commit to spending so many hard earned after-tax dollars, picking just one of these many magnificent machines, alone, would be a nearly impossible task. How does one choose between the enduring, retro-classic beauty of a Road King, the easy handling of the Heritage Softail or the living room like comfort of an ElectraGlide? This dragged on for a couple of years. Finally, two days before my 53rd birthday, it happened. Carolyn and I spotted her right away, poised confidently, but demurely on the showroom

floor, like some heavenly, evening gowned Miss America pageant finalist: she was a white/gold flake Street Glide, with hard saddlebags, chromed front end, Stage One pipes, and a fairing with instrumen-tation . . . and a Harmon Kardon sound system/CD player. This was the one! So, I did what I always do – I called my friend Bob for advice. He offered his sage wisdom: “Dan, how long are you gonna wait . . . till you’re 60?” I couldn’t argue with that logic. So, the next night (a Thursday) I headed over to Fud-druckers (Betty’s Best Burgers) to talk up some of the Peterson folks in a neutral, laid back environ-ment. They came through for me. The next day, my birthday, I took the plunge. Back to Petersons I went, on my trusty Sporty, with my checkbook in my pocket; an hour or so later I headed home on my new Street Glide.

Carolyn and I immediately proceeded to do what we always do in times like these: we loaded up the saddlebags with some clothes and a bottle of Mr. Jack’s finest Old No. 7 and headed to the South-ernmost House in Key West for the weekend. What a ride. On the road, this bike is as smooth as silk, and despite its weight of nearly 800 pounds, even a 5’10” 160 pound lawyer like me can easily handle it, two up with fully loaded saddlebags! Now we know what its like to glide effortlessly down the in-terstate, laughing in the face of crosswinds, while our 96 cubic inch V-twin engine loafs along at a mere 2100 rpm in sixth gear!

OK, honestly? This bike wasn’t cheap. And, I did think long and hard about how I’ll make ends meet when I retire, my kids’ education, the uncer-tain economy, the skyrocketing cost of food and gas, the disappearing value of our house, and the wisdom - or lack thereof - of parting with so many hard earned after-tax dollars. Not to mention the cost of insurance. But, how long was I going to wait . . . till I’m 60? Nope, I don’t think so. Sometimes, you gotta stop and smell the roses. So, we did. And we still are. It’s been a few years now, and you know what? It was worth every penny.

Ride Safe, Dan

SERVICE WITH STEVE-O

OK I know, I wrote about “Customizing” last month, but the H.B.I.C said she wanted to continue that theme, and you know the old saying, what the H.B.I.C wants, she gets (besides, she signs my checks every month).

So last month we looked at a stock bike that we built for a really big guy, he is 300 lbs. and about 6’ 2”. He needs lots of stretching space, and this gentleman loves power! So that was the brief, fast and big enough to stretch out on. At the opposite end of the spectrum, we had a custom-er who required the exact opposite. He owns a CVO Road Glide and he (like me) is built low to the ground. Initially we lowered the bike front and rear, but the gentleman was still on the balls of his feet which can

be a problem, and he was leaving on a long trip to the northeast. So we tailored the bike to his needs by installing a “drop seat” kit that brought the seat height down an-other 3”. Now he is flat footed on the ground

and has renewed his love affair with the bike! So, where do we start for you? Let’s get you up on the bike and see how you fit. How are the handlebars? Are you sitting upright? Do you have a slight bend in your elbows? If you answered no to any of these questions, we may be on our way to different handlebars in order to get you in a comfortable position. Or, maybe the handlebars are fine but your knees are up under your chin. Forward controls could move the brake and shifter forward from mid-engine to up by the frame down tubes en-abling you to stretch out on the road!

Another great way to fit you to the bike is trying a dif-ferent seat; there are seats for reduced reach, extended reach, touring seats, heated seats, solo seats, and even air seats!!!!!Here at the shop, we have a demo bike that is set up with different handlebars, seats, which lets us custom tailor a bike to you. What a great thing! And it gets better! HD has on the HD website a sec-tion called “The Custom-izer” where you can go and select your bike, and then accessories for it. It only lets you select parts that go on your bike! You can create the list, print it and bring it to the shop, or name it and save it; then we can download it here. It’s a great thing! Remember, HD allows you 60 days after you buy your new bike to purchase and install accessories and they will be covered under the 2 year factory warranty, you can’t beat that. OK, so now we have looked at handlebars, seats, foot controls, there are more options for you. We can lower the suspension on most models so you are real sure footed. There are lowering kits for rear suspension, front forks, and they can be done together, or some like to start with the rear end and see if it is enough.

Now, we have your bike configured to you, it feels great and looks pretty good, but we can go a bit further with custom paint. You know nothing makes your bike stand out like cus-tom paint. How many times have you been to your fa-vorite bike night and that one bike is always around with that paint set that just blows you away, you al-ways check that bike out, don’t you!

Listen, the possibilities are just endless, all it takes is you, your bike, and a knowledgeable individual you can trust. Then it’s time to play and enjoy the transfor-mation of a bike to your bike!

Enjoy yourself, think safe, ride safe, and be safe.Steve - O

I have been blessed to receive this info from some of the most experienced and talented Tattoo Artists a person can ever be fortunate enough to come in contact with here in Central Florida…Recently I have written about two pre-mier artists of Primal Ink Shop Vinny Burkhart and Pete Triolo. There at Pri-mal, while taking in all the shop has to offer, it is easy to glance over and see yet another artist that at their “Battle-Station” is throw-ing out a totally different style. To me it makes it a no-brainer to feature each indi-vidual assassin till I get ev-

eryone of them interviewed and put into the best magazine about “Bikes” and “Beauties” the south east has to offer. The best deserves the best in my eyes or why else are we here? After hanging out with some of the most talented and all around cool cats, I took two steps the left and stepped into Brett J. Barr’s “realm” inside of Primal Ink.There Brett’s station is mostly decorated with some of the sickest realism art that I have ever laid my eyes on.Brett grew up in Easton Pennsylvania. He moved to Ormond By the Sea in nineteen eighty five and attended Daytona Beach Community College for Graphic Design at the same time airbrushing pretty much on the Daytona Beach, in a shop of course…Brett then moved to Orlando in nineteen ninety seven, he got into tattooing because at the age of eighteen Brett received a tattoo that when showing it to his friends, his friends and Brett himself realized he could control the Ink Gun on his own. In February nineteen ninety eight till two thousand and seven, B.J.B. worked at Bad Dog Tattoo Shop located in Or-lando on Central and Orange Blossom Trail. Brett never really served an apprenticeship but learned from watching his piers. During his last stint at Bad Dog a fellow tattoo artist there, Mike Carrico, really helped fine tune and give Brett all the tools he needed to be one Bad-

Ass in his own right. Brett has also worked at Lasting Image in Daytona Beach, there he spent about four years. In October of two thousand Barr operated and obviously threw ink at Built for Speed- the Hill Side location till about October of two thousand and nine.Than Brett made the transfer and joined forces with the crew over at Primal Ink…His mediums consist of Realism, Photo Realism, art miniatures out of wood, and origami,

which should reflect on the steady hand I am positive Brett has when pushing an ink gun… Brett’s influences are H.R. Giger, Aphous Mocha, and Audrey Kawaski which I would recommend looking up on–line. When I asked what type of tattoos Brett does not like to do it is almost as the mo-tion picture “Four Rooms” (which was playing in the background) almost paused itself so that I could hear indefinitely that he absolutely hates Dragons- So don’t ask. Also when asked where Brett J. Barr sees himself in three years he stated behind barrs which I think can only be associated with his name and that I highly doubt it with the talent that Brett possess’.For myself stumbling upon such a unique shop such as Primal is a blessing and makes my job a lot easier. Like I said from station to station you will find a different artist with their own unique style and a different array of special-ists to choose from.My vow to you is that I

will not stop till I have given you the “In-Sight” on each of the artists Primal Ink provides.Next up Cristina Gracia, if I had to com-pare her to a movie Icon it would be to one of the Hot Ladies from “The Deadly Viper Squad” of Quentin Tarantino’s film “Kill Bill” only instead of a “Hattori Hanzo” sword Cristina waves an Ink Gun. So look for it- I am….

Thanks Again- Jonathan Mack

As some of you may have realized, I’m not a very good writ-er. I thought this job would be easy but, I think I’ll stay with my photography in the long run. This month I interviewed Congressman Allen West, due to the budget battle and his dispute with Debbie the Democrat his plate was overflow-ing with politics!!! I had to scramble to come up with some-thing to write about, before the deadline imposed by the all mighty editor Miss Christy! I had the chance to meet the Congressman with his whole staff and lovely wife. It was June 4th at the open house at the Chopper Zoo!!! Eric and his staff laid out the red carpet for Congressman West and all the fellow bikers that stopped by for some barbecue and rock n roll at the Monterey Club. The Chopper Zoo had recently painted the Congressman’s bike with an awesome version of the American flag, which was unveiled in public for the 1st time. Congressman West gave a very passionate speech about the design and the his-torical importance of it. I was honored to be close to this man and hear him speak without any Fox news camera’s around. He is a very humble man. He posed for photos with everyone!! I sat down on the couch with him as he told sto-ries of his early days in the Army and how he got started with motorcycles. He claims he is lucky to have survived the days of speeding by Italian sports cars on the Autobahn!! It was a very unique day in my life as a photojournalist! Most of the time I just take photos and go, this time I hung around and got some very interesting insights from a man that a lot of people in America would like to see at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC in 2012. Good Luck to you sir and thank

you for your 22 years of service in the United States Army!! Smooth Seas & Cold Ales

WORDS OF WISDOM

A man of 92 years, short, very well-presented, who takes great care of his appearance, is moving into an old people’s home today. His wife of 70

has recently died, and he is obliged to leave his home. After waiting several hours in the retirement home lobby, he gently smiles as he is told that his room is ready. As he slowly walks to the elevator, using his cane, I describe his small room to him, including the sheet hung at the window which serves as a curtain.“I like it very much”, he says, with the enthusiasm of an 8 year old boy who has just been given a new puppy.“Mr. Gagné, you haven’t even seen the room yet, hang on a moment, we are almost there. ““That has nothing to do with it “, he replies.“Happiness is something I choose in advance. Wheth-er or not I like the room does not depend on the furni-ture, or the decor – rather it depends on how I decide to see it. ““It is already decided in my mind that I like my room. It is a decision I take every morning when I wake up. ““I can choose. I can spend my day in bed enumerat-ing all the difficulties that I have with the parts of my body that no longer work very well, or I can get up and give thanks to heaven for those parts that are still in working order. ““Every day is a gift, and as long as I can open my eyes, I will focus on the new day, and all the happy memories that I have built up during my life. ““Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw in later life what you have deposited along the way. Every day is a gift, and as long as I can open my eyes, I will fo-cus on the new day, and all the happy memories that I have built up during my life. “So, my advice to you is to deposit all the happiness you can in your bank account of memories.Thank you for your part in filling my account with happy memories, which I am still continuing to fill…Remember these simple guidelines for happiness.1. Free your heart from hate.2. Free your mind from worry.3. Live simple.4. Give more.5. Expect less.If you have been blessed by this message my friend, tell this story to your loved ones and your friends….it is the way we touch each other with simple truths that spread goodness in the world. Who knows, a miracle may happen

as a result….

Vegas… It ain’t whatit used to be!

Vegas… It ain’t whatit used to be!

Well, I just got back from Vegas. This is probably my 10th trip over the last 20 years, my how it’s changed. For those of you who haven’t been, Vegas of days gone past was an adult playground. A place where you hard-ly ever saw kids and the cocktail servers came by while you were gambling faster than you could finish the last round. You could eat prime rib and lobster dinner for $5.99 and get free tickets to shows just for gambling. The hotel staff was always willing to do most anything to make your stay better. Because they knew when you are there you gambled, ate and drank in excess without spending a fortune, only what you lost which didn’t bother you that much because everything was so cheap. Now, Vegas is a completely different beast, there are kids running around everywhere! I mean come on! Who the f#$%ck brings their kids to Vegas? Isn’t that where adults go to get away from the kids? The staff at the hotel we stayed at pretty much sucked! Won’t men-tion the name of it but the initials are TI. While we were playing cards I basically had to ask a pit boss to send someone or go himself and get me a damn drink. Now they have what’s called a resort fee. WTF?! Isn’t that what the $175.00 a night is supposed to cover? Why the hell was there another $22.50 per day charge after we got here? The food sucked and the crowds of tour-ist there just to see the sights on the strip (I don’t mean the strip clubs) were so out of control. I mean come on! It’s a damn strip in the middle of the dessert, liter-

ally, no need for tourist come wack-o! The good thing was, that if you went to the old side of the strip, things hadn’t changed much. You still could find $5.99 prime rib buffets and $3.00 cocktails with a server coming by ev-ery 10 minutes while gam-bling. The staff at the places on the newer part of the strip just say hello and ask if you need anything while walking through . This is what Vegas was and always should be. My thoughts are, if going to Vegas blow of the overpriced pretentious strip and go down to Fremont Street and feel what Vegas is suppose to be like. Ride Safe & Free. Capt. Mike

Interviewing Crazy

Trouble Sleeping

• A guy had been feeling down for so long that he finally decided to seek the aid of a psychiatrist. He went there, lay on the couch, spilled his guts then waited for the profound wisdom of the psychiatrist to make him feel better. The psychiatrist asked me a few questions, took some notes then sat thinking in silence for a few minutes with a puzzled look on his face.Suddenly, he looked up with an expression of delight and said, “Um, I think your problem is low self-esteem. It is very common among losers.”

• The woman seated herself in the psychiatrists office. “What seems to be the problem?” the doctor asked. “Well, I, uh,” she stammered. “I think I, uh, might be a nymphomaniac.”“I see,” he said. “I can help you, but I must advise you that my fee is $80 an hour.”“That’s not bad,” she replied. “How much for all night?

• A man who had been in a mental home for some years finally seemed to have improved to the point where it was thought he might be released. The head of the institution, in a fit of commendable caution, decided, however, to interview him first.“Tell me,” said he, “if we release you, as we are consid-ering doing, what do you intend to do with your life?’The inmate said, “It would be wonderful to get back to real life and if I do, I will certainly refrain from mak-ing my former mistake. I was a nuclear physicist, you know, and it was the stress of my work in weapons research that helped put me here. If I am released, I shall confine myself to work in pure theory, where I trust the situation will be less difficult and stressful.”“Marvelous,” said the head of the institution.“Or else,” ruminated the inmate. “I might teach. There is something to be said for spending one’s life in bringing up a new generation of scientists.”“Absolutely,” said the head.“Then again, I might write. There is considerable need for books on science for the general public. Or I might even write a novel based on my experiences in this fine institution.”“An interesting possibility,” said the head.“And finally, if none of these things appeals to me, I can always continue to be a teakettle.”

Just when you think the world couldn’t get any crazier,

Boulder, Colorado delivers a good one! Police in Boul-

der are searching for a man who hid inside a portable

toilet at a yoga festival.

After a woman went to use the portable toilet Friday

she told police she thought she noticed something

moving inside the tank. She thought there may be a

person inside the toilet, so she ran to get help.

Alarmed, a man who was standing nearby went in to

check and saw someone covered by a tarp inside the

tank of the port-o-let. The man then told security, after

hearing the door lock from the inside.

“A festival security supervisor waited outside for sev-

eral minutes and then saw a suspect emerge from the

portable toilet,” police said in a release. “The supervisor

tried to detain the suspect, but he ran away, covered in

feces.”

The suspect was described as about 20 years old, white,

very tall, thin and was wearing dark gray sweatpants

and no shirt or shoes. Witnesses told police the suspect

had several cuts on his back and legs. The suspect was

also wearing leather bracelets on each wrist. Police be-

lieve the suspect may be a transient.

We believe he may be DISGUSTING!!!
