• THE SCHOOL CAN INFORM THE PARENTS ON A CONSTANT BASIS ABOUT EDUCATIONAL GOALS, EVENTS, AND HOW THEIR CHILD IS DOING.
• THE SCHOOL CAN SEEK THE PARENTS’ ADVICE ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE SCHOOL ACADEMICALLY AND SOCIALLY.
• THE SCHOOL CAN USE TRANSLATORS WHEN NECESSARY.• SPECIAL PROGRAMS CAN BE ORGANIZED TO HELP MEET FAMILIES’ LANGUAGE AND
CULTURE NEEDS.• SCHOOL CAN HOST A BILINGUAL FAMILY NIGHT.• WWW.COLORINCOLORADO.ORG IS A GREAT RESOURCE FOR ELL STUDENTS AND THEIR
FAMILIES AND TEACHERS!
STRATEGIES FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE HOME AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
• KEEP A LOG OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT (I.E. WHAT PARENTS CONTRIBUTED WHEN)
• MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PARENTS BEFORE AND AFTER PARTICIPATION OCCURS.
• KEEP FILES OF PAST PARENTS THOUGHTS ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND WHAT COULD BE DONE TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS.
THE ROLE OF LEADERSHIP IN CULTIVATING A POSITIVE HOME AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP FOR ELL STUDENTS
• LEADERS MUST BE ROLE MODELS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.• LEADERS MUST LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT CULTURES OF ELL STUDENTS
AND DISTRIBUTE THE INFORMATION THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL.• LEADERS MUST MAKE POSITIVE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN STAFF AND
PARENTS TO ESTABLISH GOOD RELATIONSHIPS.• LEADERS MUST PROVIDE RESOURCES TO ELL FAMILIES.
