These Bills of Quantities are consecutively numbered andthe Tenderer is required to check the number of pages andshould any be found missing or in duplicate or the figuresortyping indistinct or there be any doubt, obscurity or ambiguityas to the meaning or intent of the descriptions, particulars,etc. He must inform the Quantity Surveyor at once in writingand have the same rectified or explained as the case maybe. No claim whatsoever will be afterwards admitted due tothe Contractor having failed to comply with any of the aboveconditions.

SECTION C - SPECIFIC PRELIMINARIES

1/1/248 Site instructions

Instructions issued on site are to be recorded in triplicate ina site instruction book which is to be maintained on site bythe contractor. Item

1/1/249 Warranties for material and workmanship Where warrantiesfor materials and/or workmanship are called for, thecontractor shall obtain a written warranty, addressed to theemployer, from the firm supplying the materials and/or doingthe work and shalldeliver same to the engineer on thecertified completion ofthe contract. The warranty shall statethat workmansip, materials and installation are warranted fora specified period from the date of final completion and thatany defects that may arise during the specified period shallbe made goodat the expense of the firm supplying thematerials and/or doing the work, upon written notice to doso. The warranty will not be enforced if the work is damagedby defects in the construction of the building in which casethe responsibility for replacement shall rest entirely with thecontractor. Item

1/1/250 Co-operation of contractor for cost management It isspecifically agreed that the contractor accepts the obligationof assisting the engineer in implementing proper costmanagement. The contractor will be advised by the engineerof all cost management procedures which will beimplemented tot ensure that the final building cost does notexceed the budget. The engineer undertakes to makeavailable to the contractor all budgetary allowances and costassessments/reports to enable the proper procedure to beimplemented and the contractor shall attend all cost planreview and cost management meetings. The contractorundertakes to extend these procedures, as necessary, to allsubcontractors Item

1/1/251 Testing of windows for watertightness Each window shall betested for watertightness with water sprayed on usingadequate pressure. If in the opinion of the engineer, thepressure proves to be inadequate, then the pressure shallbe boosted by means of compressed air or other approvedmeans. Item

Cost of tests

The costs of making, storing and testing of concrete testcubes as required under clause 7 "Tests" of SABS 1200 Gshall include the cost of providing cube moulds necessaryfor the purpose, for testing costs and for submitting reportson the tests to the architect. The testing shall beundertaken by an independent firm or institution nominatedby the contractor to the approval of the architect. (Testcubes are measured separately)

Formwork

Description of formwork shall be deemed to include use andwaste only (except where described as "left in" or"permanent"), for fitting together in the required forms,wedging, plumbing and fixing to true angles and surfaces asnecessary to ensure easy release during stripping and forreconditioning as necessary before re-use

The vertical strutting shall be carried down to suchconstruction as is sufficiently strong to afford the requiredsupport without damage and shall remain in position untilthe newly constructed work is able to support itself.

"Polycop" polypropylene pipes

Polypropylene pipes 54mm diameter and under shall beseamless copper coloured class 16 pipes jointed with"Fast-fuse" heat welded thermoplastic or brass compressionfittings as designed for use with copper pipes as stated.

Pipes shall be firmly fixed to walls etc, with coloured nylonsnap-in pipe clips with provision for accommodating thermalmovement and jointed and fixed strictly in accordance withthe manufacturer's instructions.

All pipe diameters are nominal external.

"Polylink" polypropylene pipes

Polypropylene pipes 63mm diameter and over shall be class12 pipes jointed with cast iron "Supraclamp" running joints.

Fittings to copperwaste, vent and anti-syphon pipes, capillary solder fittingsand compression fittings shall be "Cobra Watertech" type.Capillary solder fittings shall comply with ISO 2016. Onlycompression fittings shall be used in walls or in ground.

Fixing of pipes

Unless specifically otherwise stated, descriptions of pipesshall be deemed to include fixing to walls etc, casting in,building in or suspending not exceeding 1m belowsuspension level.

Reducing fittings

Where fittings have reducing ends or branches they aredescribed as "reducing". In the case of pipes with diametersnot exceeding 60mm only the largest end or branch size isgiven. Should the contractor wish to use other fittings andbushes or reducers he may do so on the understanding thatno claim in this regard will be entertained. In the case ofpipes with diameters exceeding 60mm all sizes are givenand no claim for extra bushes, reducers, etc, will beentertained.

Exposed concrete surfaces

Exposed surfaces of concrete stormwater channels, coverslabs, inspection eye marker slabs, gulley tops, cleaning eyetops, catchpits, inspection chambers, etc shall be finishedsmooth with plaster.

Excavations

No claim for rock excavation will be entertained unless thecontractor has timeously notified the Engineer thereof priorto backfilling.

"Soft rock" and "hard rock" shall be as defined in"Earthworks".

Laying, backfilling, bedding, etc. of pipes

Pipes shall be laid and bedded and trenches shall becarefully backfilled in accordance with manufacturers'instructions.

Previously painted plastered surfaces

Surfaces shall be thoroughly washed down and allowed todry completely before any paint is applied. Blistered orpeeling paint shall be completely removed and cracks shallbe opened, filled with a suitable filler and finished smooth

Previously painted metal surfaces

Surfaces shall be thoroughly rubbed and cleaned down.Blistered or peeling paint shall be completely removed andsanded down to bare metal

Previously painted wood surfaces

Surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned down. Blistered orpeeling paint shall be completely removed and sanded downand cracks and crevices shall be primed, filled with suitablefiller and finished smooth


Paint are to manufactured and supplied by PLASCONPAINTS (PTY) LTD or equal approved and applied in strictaccordance with the manufacturer/supplier's specification.

All work to be executed in strict accordance with thespecifications of Plascon Paints (Pty) Ltd. The coatingsystems are as per Plascon's 'List of Decorative PaintProducts' unless otherwise specified. Full specifications areavailable at Tel. + 27 (0)11 301-4600 or from the variousbranch offices.

Primers and first coats may be thinned in accordance withthe paint specifications of Plascon Paints (Pty) Ltd to aid theabsorption of the paint.

Copper pipes:

Pipes shall be hard drawn and half-hard pipes of the classstated. Class 0 (thin walled hard drawn) pipes shall not bebent. Class 1 (thin walled half-hard), class 2 (half-hard) andclass 3 (heavy walled half-hard) pipes shall only be bent withbenders with inner and outer formers. Fittings to copperwaste, vent and anti-syphon pipes, capillary solder fittingsand compression fittings shall be "Cobra Watertech" type.Capillary solder fittings shall comply with ISO 2016. Onlycompression fittings shall be used in walls or in ground

Fixing of pipes:

Unless specifically otherwise stated, descriptions of pipesshall be deemed to include fixing to walls etc, casting in,building in or suspending not exceeding 1m belowsuspension level

Reducing fittings:

Where fittings have reducing ends or branches they aredescribed as "reducing". In the case of pipes with diametersnot exceeding 60mm only the largest end or branch size isgiven. Should the contractor wish to use other fittings andbushes or reducers he may do so on the understanding thatno claim in this regard will be entertained. In the case ofpipes with diameters exceeding 60mm all sizes are givenand no claim for extra bushes, reducers, etc will beentertained
