Hello Pateros,
This year has been a positive reflection of the quality
students, quality staff, and quality community we have
here in Pateros. “Creators of a Positive Learning
Culture” has set the tone for each individual to take
ownership of their own life and their role in the lives of
others. Thank you for your support.
The ASB officers have continued to engage and prepare
events that allow the secondary students to mentor
and support the elementary students. They also
continue to work hard to serve our K-12 students in
meeting their goals. The staff members appreciate and
enjoy the leadership the ASB members have shown.
Pateros students competed well in our winter sports
and academic competitions. High school spring sports
begin on February 29. The musical in January, “You’re a
Good Man, Charlie Brown” was clever and showcased

students’ talents and performance skills. The winter
concert and solo ensemble events allowed our
musicians to stretch and share their growth with the
community and with other musicians.
Words cannot describe the powerful experience of
seeing our community move forward in the continued
recovery process. Working with the city, county, state,
and federal support systems has allowed Pateros to
restore and improve our systems. Many of our
community members who stepped up in leadership are
now supporting other communities as they face new
unforeseen challenges. As I talk with leaders around the
state, they ask how Pateros is doing; while it has been a
difficult journey, the phrase “Pateros Strong” continues
to be the way others remember us.
You will be invited to join us in June as we return to
the “Continue the Conversation” meetings. Thank you
for your ongoing support. Pateros is a place of hope
where our community supports our students and builds
the foundation for a bright future.

Hi everyone! My name is Maggie
Hallaman, and I am the new AmeriCorps
member at Pateros School. I am originally
from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I
attended the University of Pittsburgh for
Political Science. I moved to Chelan mid-
October, and I am enjoying the country
life.
For those of you who do not know about
AmeriCorps, it is a national service
organization. I am part of the
Intermountain AmeriCorps which is based
out of Wenatchee. There are 20 members
in all, we serve at various non-profit
organizations and schools around Central
North Washington. Intermountain
AmeriCorps members serve along the
Columbia in Omak, Brewster, Pateros,
Entiat, Wenatchee, and Leavenworth. My
role at Pateros is to assist different
teachers through the day. I also help with
the after school Study Table program till 4
p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.
For the spring, I am planning a Family
Literacy Night in theme with the Spring
Book Fair at the end of April. This event
will give elementary students and their
parents an opportunity to add new books
to their collection as well as play games
and create crafts together.
Monthly, I attend a meeting in Wenatchee
for AmeriCorps trainings and activities. In
October for “Make a difference day”,
Intermountain AmeriCorps and other
volunteer groups were able to winterize
Amer iCorps News
Camp Zanika at Lake Wenatchee. In
February, Intermountain AmeriCorps and
Chelan-Douglas Community Action
Council hosted a poverty simulation
workshop, to educate all our community
members about the issues relating to
poverty.
If you would like more information on
anything regarding AmeriCorps, feel free to
contact me.

Greetings Parents, Students, and Community
members,
It is hard to believe that the school year is
going by so fast. It seems there is a hint of
spring weather in the air in the early
mornings and that stirs those feelings of a
start to spring sports, March winds, April
showers, and May flowers.
I hope everyone has had a great winter
season. Wow, what a winter is has been!
A lot more snow than we’ve had for a while,
that’s for sure! Our skiers loved it, right?
As we move through February, the usual testing
we require our students to do is happening.
The first round of testing is the MAP
(Measurement of Student Progress); the state
assessment will follow in April and May. The
name of the state test is the “Smarter Balance
Test.”
Teachers and students are off to a great start
with the new semester.
I am happy to report that we had 78 secondary
students make the honor roll for semester one.
I want to challenge all of our students to excel
in their academic endeavors and crack that
honor roll list for second semester.
I continue to applaud the efforts of our entire
staff here at the Pateros Schools as we are
blessed to have folks that go above and
beyond to make this a fantastic learning
environment.
I would like to extend an open invitation for
our parents and community members to
stop by school anytime and chat if you have
questions regarding the school. Everyone
knows how much we like to show off our
school anytime we can.
Here’s looking forward to a fantastic rest of
the school year.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael R. Hull

Our Loup Loup Ski Trip on January 12, 2016 was a blast for all who attended!
Both the 5th and 6th graders know that Loup Loup is a very remarkable loca-
tion to travel on a field trip. A total of 36 students chose to join us that day. Mr.
Butler and our chaperones, my dad Jaydon Rose, and Tom and Andrea Asmus-
sen, accompanied my classmates and I. Jaydon and Tom skied down the chair-
lift with Tea, Dylan, Seth, Danny, and I. The rest of the class got free rentals and
lessons and were “patiently” waiting for their skis or snowboards. Mr. Butler
stayed with the students taking lessons and took them up the Junior Poma. It
was Tea’s first time up the chairlift, and her little shrieks cracked me up! We
had a nice meal at the warm lodge, and overall had a blast!

Boy’s Basketball 2015-2016
BILLYGOAT TRACKS page 7 February 2016
The Billygoat basketball team had 25 boys turn out for the team this year which was a great deal.
Last year we struggled with numbers having to cancel a majority of the games, but this year was
the complete opposite being able to pick up extra games to play. The Billygoats finished the year
5-14 and 5-7 in league play. Despite the record, the players on both the Varsity and Junior Varsity
improved as the year went on. There were a lot of new faces on the court this year which helped
fill roles that were lost from last year. The Varsity had many instances throughout the year where
they played very tough. Defensively, we did a great job of shutting down our opponents with our
man defense which is something that we don’t use very often. Offensively, there were times when
we looked very good and times we struggled shooting and turning the ball over. The best
performance of the season came at home vs. Riverside Christian. Riverside is a very good offensive
team and the Billygoats played outstanding defense against a very good team. This year we will
graduate one senior, Derek Robinson. Derek put six years into this program since he was a
manager for the team during his junior high years. We thank him for everything that he
contributed to the program. -Coach Stennes
Girl’s Basketball 2015-2016
BILLYGOAT TRACKS page 8 February 2016
The Pateros Nannies had a successful basketball season, finishing with an
11-8 record. They faced a tough schedule this year, played many of the
bigger 2B schools, and competed very well. In the playoffs, the Nannies
narrowly missed going to the Regional Tournament by getting knocked
out by a “hot” Entiat team. The Nannies have a great team and gave us a
lot of memories. We have seven girls graduating this year who we are all
very proud of. We wish them the best of luck in the future and we’re
ready to see what next year brings!
Thank you ladies for a great season!
Wrestling 2015-2016
BILLYGOAT TRACKS page 9 February 2016
We’ve had a great year!
Slade Ginter #145, 8th grader, made it to Regionals.
Luis Solis #138, 11th grader, won some matches for his
first time in his career and was a district participant.
Julio #126, 11th grader, suffered a pretty tough injury in the
regional tournament. He managed his way to the State
Tournament where he suffered a chest injury on top of his
ankle injury and battled through to get an impressive 5th
place.
Brian Chavez #160, 12th grader, made his way to State
Wrestling as well.
Carlos Cruz #138, 12th grader, wrestled really hard and
managed to get 3rd place in state for the third year in a
row.
Little Guy Wrestling for first through seventh grade has started.
The first tournament is in Cashmere this Saturday. It isn't too
late to sign your son/daughter up, please call the Pateros School
at 509.923.2343 ext. 2 and ask for Bill Haley.
Coach Haley and Coach Kelly are really excited for the future
of this wrestling program!
PATEROS ASB
BILLYGOAT TRACKS page 10 February 2016
The ASB has been up to many fun and
interesting activities. We started out at
the beginning of the year taking five of
our ASB members to a leadership
conference in Puyallup, WA. We
stayed for the weekend and gained
new skills to bring back to our school.
When we came back, we started out by
boosting the importance of our spirit
week. The ASB decided to make the
stakes even higher by having the king
and queen decided by who had the
most points at the end of the week.
Along with that, we had a little kid
activity. We paired each jr. high and
high school student with an elementary
student. We cut out fish for each stu-
dent and they got to write something
unique about themselves. Also, during
the winter, we got together with our
same elementary students and made
snowmen door hangers. We stay
matched up with the same student all
year so we can get to know and bond
with them. Looking into the future, the
ASB plans to come together with our
little kids again in the spring. Also, we
plan to work with the
elementary and do Pennies for
Patients.
We are looking forward to the rest of
our year!
