UW Denny Hall 3-D Site Logistics Plan

• Allows Builder and Owner ability to visualize site logistics plan for construction• Can be shown in multiple views, including “fly-through” and free examination during presentation & interview to owner

UW Denny Hall 3-D Laser Scan Survey

• Integrated into Design Team Model as a preconstruction tool delivered to design team during Schematic Design, provided as-built of oldest building on campus

• Analyze and test “means and methods”• Ensure design can be built to meet targeted schedule and cost• BIM exposes errors and omissions in design documentation• Builder can recommend alternate solutions while preserving

design intent

Construction Visualization

• 4-D Modeling (Link the model with Project Schedule): Single moment time frame shots

& Full length schedule movies

• “At-a-glance” visual images for field use – contractor and subcontractors gain instant project knowledge from viewing an image with information

Construction Visualization

KCLS Snoqualmie – 6,000 SFSmall building……

….. with a complicated wall type system:• 8 interior wall types• 6 Exterior wall types

…Best way to quickly get the information to the field superintendent, foreman and the carpenters was through visuals...

Construction Visualization

KCLS Snoqualmie – Visual ToolsA wall study visual tool was made for each wall type showing location by type, labeled & posted in the field and for clarification with framing subcontractor during bidding

• 8 interior wall types • 6 Exterior wall types

Construction Visualization

KCLS Snoqualmie – Visual ToolsA quasi-time lapse visual sequence to provide“at-a-glance” scope information for all field members, specific items highlighted in blue. These were posted at jobsite in multiple viewing angles:

1. Specialty masonry footings (not self performed)

2. Masonry Wall Scope

3. Structural Steel Scope

4. Specialty cladding (self-performed)

The KCLS 5 Design-Build Libraries received the following awards:• AGC Build Washington Award – Public Building under

$5 million (Snoqualmie Library)• AIA TAP 2008 BIM Award – Honorable Mention

Building Systems Coordination

•Coordinate access & clearance requirements

•Clash Detection of Systems

•Discovery and resolution of conflicts prior to finalizing design and installation in the field

•Model for use by owner for facilities management

Model Based Estimating

BIM with cost Model enabled accurate quantity survey of materials and components at

fraction of the time to do paper-based QTO Quantities linked directly to cost databases Cost implications of design changes understood in real-time
