PARBOILING & DRYING PROCESS

Parboiling Stages
Pretreating the paddy before milling is known as parboiling. This process is optional and required only to produce boiled rice. It involve the following 3 stages.1. Soaking – Soak the paddy in hot water2. Cooking – Drain the water and inject steam3. Drying – Dry till reach the required moisture level

De-Husking
It is the process of removing husk layer from the paddy
Olden days it was done using mortar and pestlesModern rice mills using friction techniqueFirst level will do the separation of husk and
paddySecond level husk is removed by suctionGood husker will remove 90% of the husk in a
single pass.

Remove the bran layer and germ from brown rice, It is also known as whitening
Apply friction to the grain surface either by rubbing the grains against an abrasive surface or against each other.
Range of bran removal will between 8-10% of the total paddy weight
