REUNIONS 2015

New venue in 2016

DHS & Dubbo College Ex-Students Bindyi Club News JULY 2015

Your committee has taken the step of relocating for the Bindyi Club luncheon of 2016.

Since the second floor of the NSW Leagues Club became unavailable 2 years ago, we have felt that a more suitable venue was required. Accordingly, next year’s lunch will be at the former Masonic Club (now the Castlereagh Club) in Castlereagh St.

There will be a map and detailed directions in the first newsletter of 2016, but here is a sneak preview of the very elegant dining room.

Canberra ReunionUnfortunately the annual Canberra lunch, scheduled for May, was cancelled this year. Too many of the regulars were travelling or otherwise unavailable, so another date is planned in 2016.

Class of 1982About 60 former students with a smattering of partners converged on the Commercial Hotel’s new outdoor dining and entertainment area on March 21 to celebrate 33 years since the HSC year of 1982 and 35 years since those in Year 10 in 1980 were last at DHS.

Primarily organised by Terri Kelly (nee Terri-Anne White), the arrangements took place by a very effective Facebook page. The pub laid on a wonderful smorgasbord at $50 a head and Terri and her committee provided a variety of fun and slightly embarrassing red and black costumes in which everyone was photographed at some point during the day.

School captain from 1982, John Sergeant reminded all present that unlike the boys at Cranbrook who share our school motto the 1980 and 1982 alumni had no problem being rather than seeming to be. Other speeches came from Lana Willetts (nee Wells) who told all those who’d

come from Sydney they could buy a much cheaper house in Dubbo, Murray Glass who remembered his friend and our mate Paul Cremin, Steven Gower who has some memorabilia for Gail Jugow (nee Kelly) and Michael Gleeson who sought a show of hands for various things such as those who’d had knee replacements, who had the most children, and who had the youngest child... (which happened to be him).

The night ended with a great cover band and a few sore heads in the making.

Class of 1965The Class of 65 held a wonderful weekend in Dubbo in May to celebrate their 50Year Reunion. They met for an icebreaker at the Milestone Hotel on Friday night, then on Saturday had a nostalgic afternoon amongst the archives at Dubbo College Senior Campus.

On Saturday night there was a dinner at the old School (Outlook Café, Western Plains Cultural Centre) and most people fronted up there again on the next morning for an extended brunch. More than 50 of the original class, and many of their partners, participated in the events and Ralph Donnet, vice captain of that year, has now coordinated a comprehensive photo book with pictures and stories.
