PRINCIPAL’S REPORT We are slowly returning to our previously “normal” ways of operation. Term 3 will see more activities return, however, they still are influence by the guidelines below. Term 3 Return to full-time face-to-face learning guidelines The following principles underpin these guidelines: • Schools continue to be safe and operations are in line with AHPPC and NSW Health guidelines. • All students should be learning on-campus unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence. • Existing infection control protocols at schools, and new health and safety measures put in place will help maintain the health and safety of students and staff. • All activities permitted at school are safe and appropriate in a living with COVID-19 environment. Extra activities allowed from beginning of Term 3: • All school sport and activities including competitions aligned with current health

advice (including those activities run by external organisations) • Inter-school student events and competitions (choirs, sport, debating, public

speaking, performing arts, Selective Sports High School trials etc) • Incursions not already permitted involving external adult providers maintaining

distancing and hygiene aligned with the health advice of the day (eg school banking talks, sport promotions etc – not directly curriculum related)

• Preschool visits will be allowed to recommence on Wednesdays • SRE (Scripture) volunteers can return to school • Parent/carer school pick up and drop off – arrangements remain as they are currently.

Parents/ carers should not be on school grounds or at school events without principal’s pre-arranged permission

Impact of Adult social distancing guidelines prescribed in term 3 will mean: • Parent/teacher evening – I hope to run this Tuesday week 2 next term (July 28th).

With the current provisions the way they are I envisage again to use either ZOOM online or phone as the medium of communication with prearranged times to talk to your child’s teacher(s) online where possible.

• P&C meetings - I hope to use ZOOM as the medium of communication at the next meeting date.

School Photos As you would be aware, school photos are being taken next Wednesday, 24th June. Students are expected to be in school winter uniform on the day, even if it is a sport day. Students will need to change into sports uniform after their photo if sport is on that day. Photo envelopes were issued a couple of weeks ago and were to be returned with payment enclosed to the office by Friday 19th June. Photo orders and payment can be done online. Details are on the envelopes that went home. Payment is not to the school as such. It is an arrangement between you and the photographers. We hand the payment envelopes submitted to the office to the photographer on the day. Reports Academic interim reports will be posted home at the end of week 10. These interim reports are modified due to the remote learning from home implications during the term. School use of Binnaway Pool Many thanks to Councillor Ray Lewis who took up the issue of Pool Lifeguards at School booked events at Binnaway Pool at the Council meeting last month. The motion not to provide Lifeguards was removed, and council will meet with local school representatives to discuss options to meet DET and Council requirements for supervision of students at school bookings for the pool. School Uniform Just a reminder that the school does have a school uniform that is expected to be worn by students. Students who are unable to wear uniform for some reason, are required to bring a note from a parent / carer. If you are unsure or what the uniform is, please contact the office for clarification. As always, if you would like to discuss aspects of your child’s schooling or give feedback on our school, please email me on [email protected] Ken White

SECONDARY NEWS Week 8, Term 2. Two more weeks of the first semester of the academic year left. At the moment, staff are working hard to complete 7 – 11 Reports. As stated previously, reports for this semester will take the form of an INTERIM report for 7 – 10. An effort grade will be given, and a general indication of whether your child is working towards, working at, or working beyond the expected level. No outcomes are reported on this semester. Year 11 reports however, will be a FULL report – reporting on outcomes, effort, and grade achieved. Reports will be posted to parents by the end of term. Upon receipt of reports, if you have any questions, please contact the school. Next Wednesday, JUNE 24th will be SCHOOL PHOTOS. Your child is expected to be in FULL SCHOOL WINTER UNIFORM – including navy blue jumper. Sports uniform is NOT appropriate for the photo, so we request that you send your child to school in full winter uniform. LEGGINGS ARE NOT SCHOOL UNIFORM. School photo notes have already been sent home. Another reminder, that we are experiencing very chilly mornings and days – please ensure your student comes with a jumper / jacket in their bag if they walk out of the door not wearing one. We want all our students to be warm and safe. A thank you to staff who are rostered to provide toast for students every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Fruit is supplied every day of the week – thank you to our cleaner Carol for cutting this up for our students every day. Thank you also to school leader Brendan Peters, and school trainee Dylan Peters for assisting staff with the provision of toast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Staff are still expected to follow the Government social distancing guidelines (including not being able to take part in a school staff group photo next Wednesday.) We are still washing / sanitising hands upon entry and exit of the classroom each lesson. We thank our students for their continued cooperation with this. Ms Wilson’s Work Education class are getting back into their practical work around the school. We thank the class, Ms Wilson and Mr Brad Sulter for their efforts so far in the Ag Plot. Our senior students should be preparing for their assessments that will be due near the end of term – we have tried to keep our senior students as much on track with their studies as we can. Term 3 will be Year 12’s last term of school, and will be the last term of Preliminary study for our Year 11 students as they will begin their Year 12 HSC studies in Term 4. I will conclude with some lines from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice where Shylock the Jew is reminding Antonio and the Christians that all men are the same: If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? Joan Fraser HTSS

PRIMARY NEWS Term 2 is alarmingly close to finishing, how fast this first semester has sped by! K-6 continue to enjoy our Wednesday mornings singing a repertoire of songs that we’re really looking forward to sharing with you all when we can once again welcome you all back into the school for assemblies and events. All of the K-6 teachers along with Miss Lyddiard and Mr Sulter look forward to these Wednesday morning sessions together and continue to be delighted by the choral voices of our students. Mr White makes a special effort each Wednesday morning to pop in and sing along with us. It has been pleasing to see more library books make their way back to our library, enabling all BCS students to enjoy our resources. The new department guide lines commencing from Term 3 will see our Binnaway Preschool students get to return for their fortnightly library lessons. The pile of unclaimed school clothing is building in both classrooms and the front office. Another reminder to ensure that you and your child are getting value for money in getting to wear the clothing items you invest in by having their names on everything so that these items can be easily retuned to them. A reminder to continue sending your children with ample water for them to drink throughout the day as we are still unable to operate the bubblers. School photos are happening next Wednesday 24th June. Please ensure that on this day all students are dressed in full WINTER uniform. This consistency makes for a better photo when all students are wearing the same seasonal uniform. Teachers have been busy preparing reports and it has been impressive to see how well many of our students are applying themselves to their work and making ongoing improvements. 9/10 English were given the challenge of taking Shakespearean expressions to create a short story. As luck would have it, give the devil his due. My own flesh and blood have not slept one wink because of that green-eyed monster. That blinking idiot is as dead as a doornail. I will foul play so hard that not a mouse will stir. Jackson John Once upon a time there was a green-eyed monster. A blinking idiot. It had not slept a wink. For goodness sake, I have no elbow room. Everybody is dead as a doornail – they wouldn’t even budge an inch. It seems like nobody was in a pickle. When I yelled “Move!” they went as white as the driven snow. DJ Hollis “Knock, knock, who’s there?” “Blinking idiot!” “Blinking idiot who?” “Blinking idiot you!” “Hahaha, thou art a laughing stock. STOP your baited breath in a pickle, set your teeth on edge. For goodness sake, I’ve not slept one wink since your baited breath made my hair stand up on end. It was a sorry sight. Love is blind like a wild goose chase. Time to break the ice … OFF WITH HIS HEAD!” Emma Riordan

LIBRARY REPORT

Our K – 6 students are enjoying their Library lessons again. A reminder to all parents that TUESDAY IS LIBRARY DAY where students return and borrow books. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR STUDENT BRINGS THEIR LIBRARY BAG AND LIBRARY BOOKS WITH THEM ON TUESDAYS. Last week Ms Lyddiard took the classes for me where they read “Do Not Open This Book” by Andy Lee. This week we read “A Monster Wrote Me A Letter” by Nick Bland. When reading this book we explored the idea of EXPECTATIONS – the monster and the boy had expectations of what the other would be like. We discovered that neither was really what the other expected. 3/4/5/6 also explored the idea of DUAL NARRATIVE where there were TWO characters telling the story – the boy and the monster. We also considered the Super Six strategies of PREDICTING and QUESTIONING. Thank you to Mrs Tan and Ms Lyddiard for helping out with 3/4/5/6. Joan Fraser

In Maths, K-2 have been looking at different ways that we can measure a variety of items. One of the things we really thought would be interesting after doing Shortest to Tallest, would be to measure ourselves. We are going to be checking our height at the end of each term to see how much we have grown. In Science, we have been looking at how

made items can be changed to suit a purpose. In this experiment we have added water to the paper towel to record what would happen. What we discovered, is that the paper towel did absorb the water, but did not break down as much as we thought it would.
