“ELECTRO-CATALYSIS” VERSESCONVENTIONAL BIODIESEL PROCESSES

• Most Biodiesel processors use a single step Transesterificationreaction, because it is low cost, and easily understood. It doeslower yield, degrade quality significantly, increase costs, andlimit the oil type used in the process to low Free Fat Oils, withever increasing costs

• “Electro-Catalysis begin with an Esterificiation Reaction toconvert Free Fatty Acids to Esters, speeding reaction times andincreasing yield. The process also lowers chemical costs and hasno upper limit on Free Fatty Acids.

• “Electro-Catalysis” also expand available oil types that can beefficiently processed, improves overall margin on all oils used.

• “Electro-Catalysis” are not restricted for use on just low FFA oils,but can be used on any oil type.

GENERAL PROCESS TRENDS OF “ELECTRO-CATALYSIS” VERSES CONVENTIONAL

BIODIESEL TECHNOLOGIESThe general trends for conventional Biodiesel, as FFA contentincreases, chemical costs increase proportionally, reactiontimes can increase, and yield drops. This trend is not thesame with “Electro-Catalysis” reactions. See Tables 1 and 2

• Please note: reaction times can vary depending on oil type andcontamination quantities. Consult your oil supplier for anydetailed analysis of the oils used in the process.

• Oil types can vary significantly and therefore require alterationsin process conditions and reaction times.

• Sometimes, feed oil analysis is required to measurecontamination levels for adequate process set-up conditions.

• Alternative plant plans should be considered for worst case oilcontamination.

• Expect changes, plan for changes in oil feed stock contamination.• Also note, these procedures are well understood by the industry

and is very common for lower cost oil types.• If your not sure, ask questions

ESTERIFICATION/TRANSESTERIFICATIONREACTION PATHWAYS

• A general statement, technology benefits, as the FFA contentincreases, cost savings increase proportionally

• Users have a wide option on oil type selection, higher FFA oils aregenerally lower in cost and improves Biodiesel plant operatingmargins

• Use less chemicals with high FFA oils, improves quality• Fast reaction times keeps plant production at maximum capacity

even when processing high FFA oils• Reaction times and savings can vary depending on oil

contamination, oil type, and other factors• In some cases, tests of oils with unknown origin and contaminate

level is required to determine best process setup parameters, andcan affect costs and Biodiesel plant production
