Dyeing auxiliary

PROPERTIES

BIOFIX K04 is a cationic agent used to improve water, perspiration andlight fastness properties of the coloured leather, particular for garment andgloving leather. BIOFIX K04 improves affinity of anionic dyestuff withvegetable tanned leather or semichrome leather .The treatment of this kindof material with little quantity of BIOFIX K04 improves fullness and brilliancy of the colour, as well it's possible to obtain particular effect ofstaining using the product in a certain way.

USE

To avoid precipitation with anionic products we advise to use BIOFIX K04in new float. For further information on the matter, please contact ourtechnical staff.

BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC.

Oxidizing agent

PROPERTIES

BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. is a strong bleaching agent that in acid conditiondevelops gaseous chlorine dioxide with a strong oxidising action. For thisreason BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. must not be allowed to come in contactwith strong acid in its undiluted state since this may cause the spontaneousevolution of gas which may ignite. BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. is used formany purpose , mainly for bleaching, decolorization, descaling of reptileskins and rarely for oxidative unhairing. We advise to use the product onlyin drums equipped with fun - aspiration system , and anyway always withproper precaution.

USE

Bleaching during pickling:1-2% of BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. allows to obtain a good white andpigment free pickled pelt advantageous for production of white tanning orfor production of pastel shade colour. Usually it is added together with saltbefore the addition of acid followed by at least four hours of drumming.It isadvisable to neutralised the excess of chlorine dioxide adding lowpercentage of sodium thiosulphate(test with potassium - iodide starchpaper ).

BIOKAL G

Auxiliary for tanning and retanning

USE

To replace traditional basifying agent during tanning add BIOKAL G in thedrum in powder form 0,5%-1%. BIOKAL LA

Soap paste

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

BIOKAL LA is a traditional soap paste derived from superior sulphonatedfatty alcohols, finds application for any number of processes, both as adetergent and emulsifier, although it is particularly effective when added tofatliquor mixtures: which are thus given higher penetration, thereby giving afresh and velvet feel to the leather. The product can also be used both for``vacate type`` and sulphonated fatliquor mixtures in vegetable tannedleather.

USE

0.5 to 2% in any oil mixtures, for both chrome and vegetable tannedleather. For wetting back crust suede leathers: 0.5 to 1% on dry weight.

BIOKAL RM

Sequestering agent

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

BIOKAL RM is a phosphates based sequestering agent with a highmolecular chain which allows the reduction of the water hardness alsousing a low quantity of BIOKAL RM. Owing to its sequestering propertiesBIOKAL RM helps water and chemical penetration through the skin fibre,therefore due to these properties is one of the most used products in thetannery. BIOKAL RM can be successfully used during soaking of raw skin,improving penetration of the water. BIOKAL RM used during neutralisationimproves penetration of neutralising and retanning agents. BIOKAL RMimproves solubility of anionic dyestuff. Unlike other products BIOKAL RM isnot difficult to store, due to being only partially hygroscopic.

Bating agent for acid environment

PROPERTIES

BIOKAL SY is an enzymatic product developed to be used in acid conditionas bating agent mainly on skins, for example sheep skins and goatskins.The product can be used successfully also on wet-blue , but it is duringpickling that BIOKAL SY gives the best result giving the followingadvantages:- opening up of the fibrous structure with increasing in yield- the leather will be softer - cleaner grain- elimination of folding due to the packing from the country of origin.

USE

Percentages vary from 1% to 3% on shaved or pickled weight, duringdepickling or before retannage.

BIOSINT K30

Bleaching agent for production of fur leather

FEATURES

- Easy soluble in water white powder.- Characteristic smell- pH sol. 1:10 = 6.3

PROPERTIES

BIOSINT K30 it is used for the bleaching of the leather with hair (shearling),it can be also used for the bleaching of dyed leather.

USE

To bleach the hair it is usually used upon the soaking. For paddle thequantity varies from 2 to 5 g of product/lt of float. The medium time of thistreatment is 4 hours ca., depending of kind of leathers.

BIO-SYL

Concentrated bating agent for acid environment

FEATURES

- Mixture of various proteolytic enzymes obtained by industrial fermentationof micro-organisms combined with activating and inert carriers.- Thin white powder packed in sealed bags of 1 kg. each.

PROPERTIES

For treating skins in acid environments (e.g. pickled skins, wet blue leatheretc.), fungoproteases are obtained by growing certain micromoulds onappropriate media and then separating the mould enzymes. Optimum pHfor activity is in an acid environment. These fungoproteases are alsocharacterised by their stability in the presence of high temperatures(60C.), where proteases of animal nature are absolutely inactive.Following results can be obtained by using BIO-SYL: - Elimination of areas where soaking, liming and bating procedures failed- Softening of leather, following hydrolization of interfibrillar substances,particularly for pigskins and splits as well as goat skins. - Levelling of chrome stains.

USE

0.5 to 3% on shaved weight, depending on type of skins and final leatherrequired. Always process at pH levels 4 to 5 and temperatures from 30C.up to 50-60C.

BIOTAN TD

Auxiliary anionic dispersing agent

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

BIOTAN TD is an excellent dispersing agent for dyeing, retanning andanionic fatliquors, that helps a perfect distribution on the whole surface andthrough the section of the leather. During retannage with either synthetic orvegetal tannins, as well as with anionic resins, it allows a penetration anddistribution of these agents, thus increasing fullness, softness and elasticityof the grain. BIOTAN TD allows uniform distribution of anionic dyes, whosepenetration and clearness are considerably enhanced, with the greatadvantages of clearness of the chromatic tone. Particularly clear and cleanshades are obtained by using BIOTAN TD together with BIOTAN GNWbefore adding dye or together with dyestuff.

USE

As a dye disperser: 1 to 4% on shaved weight ,or twice above dosage ondry weight. As a retanning auxiliary: 4 to 6% on shaved weight.

DETAN KT

Sequestering agent

FEATURES

- Appearance: Odourless, yellow liquid- pH 1:10: 11.5

PROPERTIES

Detan KT is used during "de-tanning" process of wet-blue leathers where,thanks to its decomplexing properties, it neutralises and stops thechromium removed from leather fibres, avoiding the fixing on the leathersame. Particularly, it is used for vegetabled articles, for which a strongvegetal retanning is required, improving not only the appearance and thecharacteristics of the articles but also the physical properties thanks to thesuperficial preparation of the leather that becomes more suitable to abovementioned retannings.

USE

Percentages of use of Detan KT vary from 2 to 3% upon a previousdetanning treatment of the leather with oxalic acid or other strong acid.Usually it is added in the same float of detanning.E.g.100% Water 40 3% Oxalic acid 120'2/3% Detan KT 60'Automatic over night morning, drain well, washing, follows retanning

DETERPON SC/3

Softening soap

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

DETERPON SC/3 is an excellent detergent yielding soft, silky leather.DETERPON SC/3 is particularly suitable for furskins, either insoaking procedures ( 2-3 g/l ) or in fatliquoring, whose emulsion stability,distribution and penetration ( even during tanning ) are thus enhanced.

USE

For soaking double-face lambskins: 2-3 g/l. In fatliquoring for furskins, during tanning: 20% of liquor weight inDETERPON SC/3. For fatliquoring of neutralised skin ( cattle sheep ): 1 to 3% on shavedweight.

ECOTENS

Degreasing agent with strong emulsifying action

FEATURES

- Basis: ethoxilated alcohol.- high degreasing/emulsifying capacity.- Concentration: 100%. - Fully biodegradable in 15 days.

PROPERTIES

This is a degreasing agent which can be used in a wide range ofapplications; thanks to its fundamental biodegradability and to its positivetoxicological properties it can fully replace phenolic surfactant and/orsolvent derived agents, which are commonly used in tanneries. ECOTENShas a degreasing capacity which is equal (in some cases, even superior) tothat of above surfactants and is fully biodegradable (100%) in 15 days.

USE

ECOTENS can be used ( as is the case with conventional non ionicdegreasing agents) in soaking, liming, bating, soaking of shaved wet blueleather etc.

Non foaming surfactant

PROPERTIES

EGALISOL BZ is a levelling agent particularly suitable for chrome tannedleather, as well as for mineral and synthetic tanned leather. The mainfeature of EGALISOL BZ lies in its being dye compatible, thereby formingcompounds which separate while dyeing and enhance progressive dyepenetration and levelling of shades, even in the case of multi-dye colouring.

USE

0.1 to 1.5 g/l of EGALISOL BZ, depending upon processing and dyepercentages.

NEUTROPEL C/7

Chrome tannage neutraliser

FEATURES

- White powder of a high specific gravity. - pH 2:10 solution approx. 8.5.- Water soluble in any proportion.

PROPERTIES

NEUTROPEL C/7 is a chrome tannage neutraliser suitable for any type ofleather without any risk of over neutralisation (whose dangers are wellknown by tanners). NEUTROPEL C/7 is a product made of salts which, bycombining with chromium salts unabsorbed by dermal structures, generatecomplex compounds which can be retained by the skin. This product allowthe tanner to obtain uniform dyeing, fuller leather and finer grain. There isno danger of a surface de-tanning due to over alkalinization, which makespreliminary washing unnecessary: a considerable advantage overtraditional neutralising agents. Buffer neutralising mixtures can be obtainedby mixing with synthetic neutralising tannins such as BIOTAN CD andNEUTROPEL TS.

USE

1 to 3% depending on thickness, type of leather and final leather required;it may be used either alone or combined with other neutralising agents.

NEUTROPEL CB is a mixture of organic and derivative of naphtol,developed for the neutralisation of heavy and light leather for production ofreally soft articles like nappa , clothing etc. NEUTROPEL CB must alwaysbe used together with sodium bicarbonate or sodium formate; in this waywe obtain neutralisation through the cross section without too high pHvalue .

USE

Neutralisation of wet-blue for production of soft leather:

Neutralizing anionic retanning agent

PROPERTIES

NEUTROPEL CX/N is a synthetic retanning agent with a high neutralisingcapacity. Using NEUTROPEL CX/N alone or with other neutralising salt it ispossible to obtain soft but still full and firm leather. NEUTROPEL CX/N issuitable for full and buffed grain leather and for all articles that require afirm grain. NEUTROPEL CX/N is light fast therefore it is recommended forwhite leather. NEUTROPEL CX/N gives even dyeing with anionic dyestuff.

USE

Alone as neutralising agent: 2-3% on shaved weight. It can be used incombination with NEUTROPEL C/7 or other traditional neutralising salt.NEUTROPEL CX/N can be used during retanning with syntans orvegetable tannin agent ( 2 to 5% on shaved weight )

PROPERTIES

Typical characteristics of NEUTROPEL K are the good neutralising actionon chrome leathers and the very good padding effect together with a fairlygood retanning and equalising action. For these reasons NEUTROPEL Khas several possibilities of use:a) as neutralising agent on chrome leathers alone or combined with usuallyused traditional alkaline salts or our Neutropel C/7; b) as anionic dyestuffs dispersing agent or basic dyestuffs mordant;c) as anionic retanning agents (resins, syntans, etc...) dispersing agent to which ensure a better and firmer penetration inside the leather.It can be also used with success upon mineral retanning (chromium,aluminium, zirconium) to stabilise pH and to improve the exhaustion of thesame. Used in retanning or in dyeing of velour skins it improves thesoftness and buffing properties.

USE

Due to polyfunctionality of the product, percentages of use vary also a lot(1-5%) depending on needed use and final article. Our technical staff is atyour disposal for any eventual formulation and explication on the matter.

OVONUTREX

Auxiliary for fatliquoring and degreasing

FEATURES

- Viscous amber coloured liquid.- Water soluble. - pH 1:10 solution approx. 9.5.- Active materials: approx. 99%.

PROPERTIES

OVONUTREX used as an auxiliary for fatliquoring increases softness ofthe leather. It provides finer and more stable emulsions with a betterdistribution of the oil within and on the surface of the leather. OVONUTREXis a powerful emulsifier, and can also be used as a dyeing auxiliary beforeadding dye: which will allow brighter, uniform dyeing to be achieved. Thisproduct is also an excellent wetting agent for crust leathers, the latter beingrapidly wetted-back and prepared for subsequent dyeing, giving a goodfeel.

USE

For oil mixtures: 0.5-1% on shaved weight.For wetting-back of all types of dry leather: 0.5-2% on dry weight. As adyeing auxiliary: 0.5% either before or upon adding dye to the mixture.

SUPRALEN BK 81

Dyeing auxiliary

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

The SUPRALEN BK 81 is used in order to improve the fixation of dyesand the resistance to the water, to the perspiration and to the light ofcoloured leathers, in particular for leathers used for clothes and glovefactory. The SUPRALEN BK 81 improves the affinity of anionic dyes withthe vegetable tanned leathers or chrome leathers giving full, bright and uniform colours.

USE

The SUPRALEN BK 81 is used both before the second adding ofdyes(Sandwich System) in order to obtain darker shades, and like fixingagent in order to improve the fixing and fastness of leathers colours. The quantity of use suggested vary from 0,5% to 1,5% depending on thetreated leather. For further information about that, our technician staff isalways available.

TERGEROL GA

Degreasing agent based on solvent

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

It is a solvent derived degreasing agent enabling particularly effectivedegreasing even at very low temperatures, for limed or pickled skins withhigh percentages of natural fat like pig and sheepskins. TERGEROL GA is unaffected by hard water; its degreasing activity can occur even in lowtemperature bath, it enhances uniform distribution of natural greasesthroughout the skin and it never causes the grain drying, on the contrarythe grain remains elastic and silky. TERGEROL GA is indicated for soakingof really greasy raw material also for wool on sheepskins production.

USE

This product can be of valuable use in a number of processes, such assoaking, deliming and degreasing; dosages may range from 0.5 to 3% ormore, and combination with other detergents may be advantageous.Extremely positive results were obtained by using TERGEROL GAcombined with BIOKAL 100 for treating wet blue leather of exotic origins.

BIOCID 40

Bactericide

FEATURES

- Basis: Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate in solution- Yellow liquid with anionic charge- Concentration: 40%-42%- pH sol. 1%= 9-10

PROPERTIES

Specific bactericide for soaking, BIOCID 40, if added correctly in floats,avoids the reproduction and the multiplication of decomposition bacteriaand so the damages to the hide derived from the same.The necessarydosage depends to the preservation state of the skins, to the temperatureand to the length of soaking process.

USE

The indicative dosage changes from 0.05 to 0.1% on the weight of freshhide. The product is used with success also in the finishing solutions,particularly if containing caseins and in the fatliquoring , specially when theused fatliquors contain natural oils as neatsfoot oil or fish oils.In the lastcase, percentages, varying from 0.05 to 0.1%, calculated on shavedweight, give results more than satisfactory. Also in the case of very fathides it is suitable a previous degreasing with appropriate productsbecause the natural fats facilitate the development of bacteria.

BIOKAL DM

All-purpose deliming agent

FEATURE

- Mixture of salts of non swelling complex active aliphatic carboxylic acids.- white homogeneous powder, fully water soluble.- pH 1:10 solution approx. 4.5.

PROPERTIES

The active components in the mixture make BIOKAL DM a powerfuldeliming agent particularly suitable for full substance leather, with no risk of acid swellings which might jeopardise grain quality. BIOKAL DMeliminates interfibrillar lime as well as lime portion links to the proteinicstructure of the hides or skins which is not obtainable with either weakacids or ammonia salts. BIOKAL DM delimed skins exhibit fine elastic andclean grain . The water released during deliming procedures eliminates allkeratinous residuals, absence of which yields, during tanning a beautifulflat grain without creases

USE

BIOKAL DM is quite easy to use, since it never yields empty leather orrough grain, even in high dosages. BIOKAL DM can be poured directly intothe drum, though it is advisable to previously wash the skins with eithersmall percentages of the product or ammonia sulphate

Traditional enzymatic soaking agent

PROPERTIES

BIOKAL KB is a mixture of soaking enzymes and alkaline salts, devised soas to allow rapid soaking with traditional and simple procedures. BIOKALKB allows excellent result to be obtained in a few hours both with fresh wetsalted and with dry salted skins. Better soaking provides more open, lessshrunken and cleaner leather.

USE

BIOKAL KB is usually poured directly into the drum: enzymes aredistributed and become active in a few minutes of rotation. Soaking timeand recommended percentage of use can vary according to the finalproduct, as well as to thickness it is always advisable for drum temperature

DEPILZYM/E has been studied for long time in our laboratories, theenzymes that compound this product are suitable to attack the keratin ofhair follicles and so this product gets an unhairing action. UsingDEPILZYM/E it is possible to obtain unhairings with a minimum use ofsodium sulphide or sulphidrate allowing a remarkable improvement underthe ecological aspect. DEPILZYM/E is recommended particularly ascoadjuvant of sulphide in traditional liming operations and improvingconsiderably grain clearness. Of course the percentages of used unhairingchemicals are drastically reduced with a consequently reduction of pollutingcharge in waste floats.

USE

In drum or paddle: 0.2 0.4% on fresh salted weight added in float at pH 12plus. To obtain the maximum effect in liming with hair recover, afterimmunisation with lime, it can be added together with or after thesulphide/sulphidrate. Easy to use product with which it is possible to obtain a quick and suresoaking on all types of skins and hides. The component of ECOVIT 90speeds up the process of soaking improving the quality of the final result.1) Enzymatic activity that favours idrolisation of the non structured proteinof the skin, therefore there is a better and quicker diffusion of water into theskin itself. 2) Reduction of the water surface tension due to the special wetting agentpresent.3) Buffing of the pH until 9 favours enzyme activity and the soaking processin general. This pH value stabilises throughout the process, withouttherefore creating imbalances with consequences of undesirable swelling.At the end of the treatment the skins are soft, with the flesh soft and completely separated from the skin. The pH of the bath is uniform as arethe skins even in cross section.

USE

On shoulder or heavy bovine, after a good washing, use percentagesvarying from 0.9% to 1.2% in short bath (60%) at a temperature of 28C.alone or with the addition of a surfactant agent. BIOXOIL BXZ is an oil particularlyrecommended for the production of suede ``double face `` leather, giving avery dry hand. BIOXOIL BXZ is also recommended for furskin productionas it leaves the hair or wool completely grease free, owing to the surfactantcontent that has a detergent action on both flesh and fur sides of the skin.

USE

It is important to emulsify the product with water at 40 C. Because athigher temperatures the products ability to emulsify will decrease.

Sulphited, highly concentrated fatliquor

FEATURES

PROPERTIES

BIOXOIL C/I is a highly concentrated fatliquor mainly derived from valuablefish oils, oxidised and sulphited. It is used whenever extremely soft leatheris required. Its particular sulphitation allows a thorough penetration, even inthe case of skins either partially neutralised or still retaining lime residuals.BIOXOIL C/I forms very fine emulsion which is stable to both electrolytes,acids and alkalis. It can easily emulsify raw oils up to 50% of its ownweight.

USE

BIOXOIL C/I is particularly suitable for all those articles that require greatsoftness, like softy leather, nappa, gloving etc. Using BIOXOIL C/I inretannage improves tear resistance; the product should be used in apercentage ranging from 2 to 10% according to required softness ofleather.

Cationic fatliquor

FEATURES

- White paste. - Fine, persistent emulsion.- Slightly cationic charge.- pH 1:10 solution approx. 3.5-4.

PROPERTIES

Softening fatliquor derived from synthetic fats of slightly cationic nature.The latter characteristic allows combination of the product with anionicagents, since its emulsion is quite stable even in anionic environments.BIOXOIL ET cannot be oxidised and can therefore be used for whiteleather and pastel shades. BIOXOIL ET markedly increases the tensilestrength of leather, as well as resistance to grain cracking, it can be used (as is the case with all cationic agents ) both in tanning and in retanningprocedures in the presence of chrome salts or other mineral tanningagents.

USE

In tanning: 0.3-0.5% on limed weight, to increase tensile strength of theleather. In retanning used together with chrome: 0.5-1% on shaved weight.To replace neatsfoot oil in mixtures composed of sulphonated or sulphitedoils ( multicharge fatliquoring ). For surface fatliquoring: to be used eitheras it is or combined with raw oils-in case thorough lubrication of leathersurface is required.

Lecithin derived fatliquor

FEATURES

- Slightly anionic fatliquor derived from natural lipid phosphates.- Brown coloured viscous paste.- Active materials: 60% ca.. - Excellent light fastness.

PROPERTIES

BIOXOIL G4 exhibits high affinity with skin fibres, due to its chemicalcomposition. BIOXOIL G4 has an average penetration capacity, and forthis reason it gives to the finished leather an excellent feel. Howeverpenetration can be enhanced by adding such high penetration agents assulphited oils (BIOXOIL C/I ) or synthetic, phosphorated fatliquors (NUTREXOL 150 ). BIOXOIL G4 makes leather both softer and fuller, with asilky feel which is extremely appreciate. No fatty spue phenomena ispossible.

USE

BIOXOIL G4 can be used alone, especially for clothing from sheepskins, itcan also be used as a final fatliquor for chrome tanned leather, therebygiving a silky feel to the skin.

The use of BIOXOIL TX is suggested for all kind of soft leather: nappa,softy aniline, box, velour, up-holstery. If used for aniline full grain leather,BIOXOIL TX imparts an agreeable feel without prejudice the anchorage offinishing. Of particular importance its deep and very good penetration thatmakes sure the fatliquoring also with no favourable conditions.

Add slowly under stirring to the required quantity of fatliquor a 300% inwater weight at 60C.

PROPERTIES

BIOXOIL TZ is an oxidised, sulphited fish oil, deeper fatliquor; stable toelectrolytes. Thanks to its particular sulphitation (SO3 combined 3-4) it

penetrates deeply in section also on perfectly neutralised leathers or withresiduals of lime.

USE

BIOXOIL TZ can be used both during retanning with presence of mineralsalts or other retanning agents and combined with sulphonateds to modifysoftness in leathers for shoes. It is possible to prepare blends with anionicfatliquors to be used for nappa or very greased leathers and/or for up-holstery.BIOXOIL TZ is suitable also for pastel colours because it givesvery dried and bleached surfaces.

USE

The best use of HOUGHTOSINT K10 is together our BIOKAL RM just afterwetting back of the wet blue stock, then proceed with the normal retanningprocedure. In vegetable retannage is better to use it together with thesyntan before the addition of the vegetable extracts. In deliming must be added , after the first wash, together with the deliming agent. LIKERSOL GLH has to be emulsified with water at 45-50C. before use.LIKERSOL GLH is usually used during tanning or retanning operations.however trials show that LIKERSOL GLH can be mixed with anionicfatliquor and virgin oil giving good results. LIKERSOL WPRF is a waterproofing synthetic fat liquor that produceleather with high value of waterproofing. LIKERSOL WPRF gives a soft, full hand without jeopardising the break of the grain. For example can be used to improve the resistance to the water drop on some articles..

USE

LIKERSOL WPRF is used in quantity varying from 5 to 12% dependingupon final article. The Waterproofing properties are optimized when , at theend of the retanning process, the fatliquor is fixed with the use of chrome,aluminium or zirconium salts. NUTREXOL 123 is an extremely pure and concentrated (100% ) fatliquor,its emulsion is stable up to pH 3 and in the presence of electrolytes. It can besuccessfully used for buffalo, goat, calf and pig skins both in the case ofnappa and glazed leather.
