EESI / American Biogas Council Briefing The Benefits of Leveraging

Renewable Natural Gas (Biogas)as a Transportation Fuel

May 22, 2019

The Love’s Family of Companies

• Founded 1964, headquarters in Oklahoma City• 475 travel stops in 41 states, 22k employees

• 750+ trucks – fueled by RNG, biodiesel and renewable diesel• Delivery of fuel and other products to Love’s stores nationwide

• Commodity supply, trading, and logistics• Supply gasoline, diesel, ethanol, DEF, biodiesel & renewable diesel

• Alternative fuels: RNG, hydrogen, solar & EV charging• Turn-key engineering, construction, operations & maintenance • On-site power generation with energy storage solutions

• Inspection & preventative maintenance services heavy-duty trucks• 52 nationwide service stations and 25+ years experience

The Love’s Family of Companies Related to the Transportation Industry.

Alternative Fuel Specialists

Trillium is focused on building low-carbon transportation infrastructure.

We work with our clients to identify the fuel and power supply sources that work best for their goals and objectives, balancing cost, reliability, deployment schedule, sustainability goals, location, and scale.

We understand the cost and benefit of deploying clean transportation solutions.

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

RNG is the most versatile alternative transportation fuel.

RNG is the perfect alternative fuel

It turns our waste into hydrogen, electricity, LNG and CNG

RNG Benefits

RNG production accounts for approximately 95% of the cellulosic (D3) category.

RNG as a transportation fuel is…

In 5 years RNG use has increased 577% displacing over 7+ million tons of CO2

This assumes RNG production has reduced 7,251,351 metric tons of CO2e in the last 5 years

Engine Technology

The Cummins Westport engines have evolved; solving earlier challenges.

NZ Technology Perspective

1,000 trucks (2019) emit the same amount of NOx as ONE (1) truck from 1987

Estimates based on engine efficiency

The lower the carbon intensity, the cleaner the fuel.

STARTUP X 43

BIOGAS SYSTEMS AND PROJECTS

• 20 Biogas plants in NC, MO and ID are ready for construction in 2019 and 20 more projects are under development

• Recycle per plant of approximately 270,000 tons of organic agricultural waste: swine, diary manure and green crop residues

• Each plant produces 550,000 MMBtu of renewable natural gas that is equivalent of 5,5 MW of electricity

STARTUP X 44

POTENTIAL OF BIOGAS INDUSTRY IN THE U.S.• Over 8,241 dairy and swine farms are ready for

development today

• Europe has over 10,000 operating digesters

• Currently the U.S. has over 2,200 sites producing biogas in all 50 states, out of which 250 anaerobic digesters on farms

• GESS’ 40 projects will facilitate almost 20% growth in this sector alone

STARTUP X 45

WHY BIOGAS?Environmental benefits:

-Dramatic odor reduction

-Reduced greenhouse gas emissions• Dairy 75,887 MTCO2e/yr or 2,048,949 ft3

• Swine 55,902 MTCO2e/yr or 1,509,354 ft3

-Platform for reducing nutrient runoff

-Increased crop yield

Waste treatment benefits:

-Natural waste treatment process

-Mature technology

-Complete biogas capture

-Nutrient recovery and recycling

Energy benefits:

-Multiple existing biogas end-use applications, including:

• heat-only

• electric-only

• combined heat and power

• pipeline quality biomethane

• transportation fuel

Economic benefits:

-$800 million in investment funds

-GESS employed 35 people during last year

-100 Construction jobs per project

-16 permanent jobs per project

-Turns cost items into revenue-generating

-Additional cash flow opportunities for farmers

STARTUP X 46

SHOW ME THE MONEY!

STARTUP X 47

LET’S USE BIOGAS TO POWER THE FUTURE!

• Support and promote growing RNG Biogas industry

• Increase number of users in transportation market

• Reduce carbon footprint of the IndyCar series by converting team transporters and support vehicles to use RNG

With what infrastructure will we manage:

66,500,000 TONS of food waste each year

The sludge from 31 BILLION gallons of wastewater EVERY

DAY

The manure AND NUTRIENTS from 8 BILLION cows, chicken,

turkey and pigs

Biogas/AD Systems Are Worth It

Capacity factor:

• Solar: 17% (EIA, NJ)

• Wind: 22% (average worldwide)

• Biogas/AD: 95% (DOE, UW)

How much are the non-energy

benefits worth?

• Waste management

• Nutrient recycling

• Reduced or negative GHGs

• Revenue “insurance” for farmers

• Odor reduction

• Soil health
