In2004,afterSevereAcuteRespiratorySyndrome(SARS),DrWangwasappointedtheDirector-GeneralofChinaCDC.Heestablishedthelaboratorybio-safetymanagementsysteminChinaCDC,andpromotednationaldiseasesurveillancesystem.Inrecentyears,heledtheresponsestoH5N1,H7N9avianinfluenzainhumans,hand-foot-monthdisease,H1N1influenzapandemicandotherpublichealthemergencies.ForacceleratingthedevelopmentandproductionofthepandemicH1N1vaccine,
Dr.WangcoordinatedthelargestclinicaltrialsofH1N1vaccinesandrecommendedthedoesandschedule.HejoinedtheresponsetotheEbolaoutbreakinWestAfrica,andhasactivelyinvolvedintheglobalhealth.Dr.WangwaspreviouslyamemberoftheIHRReviewCommitteeontheFunctioningoftheInternationalHealthRegulations(2005)andonPandemicInfluenzaA(H1N1). DrZuckermanwasawardedtheUKHospitalDoctoroftheYear2001AwardandtheUKHospitalDoctorInnovationAward2001inrecognitionofleadership,teamwork,innovationandclinicalexcellenceinthemedicalprofession.
