I was born in Lebanon, in 1972, while my parents were at the Brazilian diplomatic service in that country. Later on we went to live in the United States, where I had the decisive opportunity to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. This was my first contact with art, so I knew very early that I wanted to become an artist. My parents were also representative poets of the Amazonas and Central Brazil contemporary literature. These early transnational experiences and artistic environments had informed the way I view the world, but above all, showed me the direction I wanted to take in life. When back to Brazil, I enrolled for a degree of Architecture in Rio de Janeiro, but decided to leave in search of a subject closer to what I really wanted to do, moving to study Graphic Design. Parallel to my formal studies in Design, I attended the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage, an institution renowned for the range of courses that were taught by important Brazilian contemporary artists. I started with figurative paintings till the day, when unrolling a canvas, I found out a back bone on the folds of the tissue. Then, for a long period I painted over those pre-existing folds of fabrics, using the canvas as a kind of skin. Since computers got ruling our lives, I moved on experimenting through this media, scanning my body and then projecting it out on larger spaces, using as well the photoshop to create bestial-human images, or filming a closed tunnel where people walked and skated, creating phantasmagorical images. The relationship and play between human body and the environment around is one of the keys of my work. Due to a scholarship provided by the École National de Beaux Arts in Paris, I moved from Brazil to France. At the end of it, I settled in the French country side, where I discovered the arts of gardening and cooking, mixing ingredients, colors and textures, as I have done before with my paintings. I also spent some years teaching art for kids and making artistic dinners for friends and professionally at the Cultural Center of Tinqueux. Those multiple occupations (drawing, painting, filming, cooking, teaching, and producing social events concerning artistic fields) seemed to me as a lack of concentration and no direction on my work. However, as years went by, and after a careful analysis, I realized it as being a natural product of the contemporary world marked by fragmentation and also of my personality in permanent search. Thus I came to face it as a positive answer to my restless personal wanderings. Lately, I came across a new passion the moment I touched the clay with the fever of my fingers. So, here are my last works made in 2012. My only commitment is to bring forth the essence of life, it doesn’t matter in which form I express myself.
