The Cell Cycle
Interphase• G1 – 1st growth phase• S – synthesis (copying) of DNA• G2 – 2nd growth phase
• The cell grows and copiesits DNA in preparation fordividing.
Prophase• The DNA condenses
into chromosomes.• The centrioles start to
build the spindle.
Metaphase• The spindle fibers line
the chromosomes upin the middle of the cell on the metaphaseplate.
Anaphase• The centrioles start to
reel in the spindle, pulling the chromosomesapart and sending halfof them to each side of the cell.
Telophase• Chromosomes begin
to uncoil and return tochromatin.
• Membrane begins to form around the new nucleus.
Cytokinesis• Cell pinches in two,
dividing the cytoplasmand organelles in it evenly between the2 new cells.
