The move to a full solutions company as opposed to just a security product manufacturer started three years ago and came to fruition in late 2013. These enterprise solutions flow from the company’s success with its biometric hardware infiltration into the global market. In addition, ZKTeco has seen an increase in demand from SMB companies to be able to control numerous security based aspects from a central platform.

Research projects were initiated internationally by ZKTeco’s direct subsidiaries and business partners to gather the information required to bring high-quality and user-friendly solutions to the table.

The company’s enterprise transition roadmap was discussed and formalized at the ZKTeco Global Enterprise Transition Strategy Conference in Xiamen, China on 28 October 2013. Xiamen was chosen as the location for the conference because the company has already opened the ZKTeco Software R&D Service Centre there. This centre will form the operations base for all future software projects for the company’s enterprise solutions.

The Xiamen R&D Service team will grow to about 500 staffs in the forthcoming year and as the long-term plans unfold, ZKTeco will invest in future growth within the team. Currently the Xiamen team is perfecting the usage of cloud technology to provide cloud server platforms for SaaS solutions, cloud data backup and other software technology that will allow

connections to future products that ZKTeco will release. “We are confident that these solutions will change the face of the market and revolutionize the way time and security management systems will function in the future,” said ZKTeco South Africa director Hendrik Combrinck.

“All ZKTeco international subsidiaries have started investing in local software development resources to be able to customize and serve the global enterprise solutions that will be developed in the future. This will open many more vertical markets for all of our clients.” Combrinck explained.

The continued investment and development of new biometric technologies by ZKTeco will see the launch of new market changing products like biometric guard patrol solutions, embedded facial recognition IP cameras, 8-channel facial recognition servers, visitor management solutions, parking systems, elevator control systems, iris recognition products, facial recognition door locks and access control embedded tripod turnstiles in this year. “Adding these products to our already existing solutions will satisfy more clients’ purchasing needs,” he continued.

“Our global service and product specialist teams are ready to assist with any hardware or software query, irrespective of size. Our whole international service network is also available to ensure that each query is handled and resolved as soon as possible.”

O ver the past decade ZKTeco has established itself as the market leader when it comes to pioneering new and innovative biometric security

technologies. Recognized internationally for its engineering capabilities and manufacturing excellence, ZKTeco is utilizing this solid foundation to launch into the enterprise market.

Low price does not always mean low quality, but it could mean a challenge to high-end products. For years, products made in China were branded with a cheap and low-quality badge. However, as the quality of goods produced by Chinese manufacturers continued to improve in the last two decades, the big names in electronics are now forced to lower their prices.

Technology is advancing at a quicker pace than ever before and many Chinese companies have also changed their business plans from being low-cost assemblers for big brand profit driven companies and are now producing more innovative and quality products of their own. This is now giving the buying power back to the end user and they are no longer forced to buy high priced brands.

Global competition continues to drive down prices and Chinese factories are coming to the party by producing very high quality products at very low prices. This is mainly due to millions of dollars spent each year on quality control and factory layout to enhance their production and make it more streamlined and cost effective.

The most important factor here is still that the buyer in South Africa must make sure that the company he buys from in China is reputable and has tested its products in the South African environment and has a South African service centre with full service back up. This will ensure buying confidence not only for the distributor, but for the end user as well.

FB: Can you please provide our readers with a brief background of your company?

ZK: ZK is the largest manufacturing company of its kind when it comes to manufacturing biometric readers, as we control R&D, manufacturing, product design, assembly, and logistics… all under one roof. We have recently divided the ZK global umbrella into 5 business units. One business unit is our Time & Attendance division which has been very successful as we control about 60% of the worldwide market in terminals. Another business unit is our Access Control division which we call ZKAccess. Another business unit is called ZKiVision which has IP based video surveillance solutions which incorporates face detection and verification. Our ZKBiolock business unit offers commercial and consumer based biometric door locks in a wide variety of form factors. and our ZK AFIS business unit will be focused on governmental AFIS projects in future. That is how our organization has been recently divided into different business units. We have also in the last two years expanded to 17 global branch offices worldwide in 17 different countries. That is what we have done so far as expansion is concerned.

FB: You recently launched a US subsidiary of which you are the CEO. Can you tell us what the drive was behind that?

ZK: The US subsidiary is now in its 4th year of operation. The business driver for a US subsidiary is for ZK to have a global presence while focusing on the North American market where we wanted to have more visibility and more traction within the Time & Attendance and Access control marketplace. Our U.S. subsidiary has done very well in last 3 years and we have organically grown as the preferred Time attendance reader/terminal provider. Another primary reason for a ZK subsidiary located in the US is to make it easy for our North American

customers to do business with us, standardize our products based on local needs and provide local support.

FB: How many countries do you operate in now and where your products are being used? It must be huge.

ZK: ZK globally sells into more than 200 countries/regions. Almost every single country that you can think of in the world, our products are there. We are a very flexible and open company. Our partners, distributors and dealers are the ones who’ve helped us grow in such a short time. They are the reason why we opened many global offices in the last three years. We are now operating in about 17 countries and our goal is to provide local support in each of these countries where there has been a lot adoption for ZK products, specifically in emerging markets. Our goal is to open 10 more global offices in the near future.

FB: Wow, that is quite a success story and I think it is based on the fact that your products are obviously being very well received so I wanted to just touch base a little bit on your product lineup. You mentioned the Time & Attendance area which is expanding rapidly right now. Can you describe a little bit more on your products in that particular area?

ZK: I can tell you what we have done so far and where we are going. We have dominated the Time & Attendance industry regarding the huge SMB market and our new focus recently has been to have a new product line that addresses the needs of the large workforce management software/HCM providers like PeopleSoft, SAP and many others. ZK’s new line of modular 7” & 10” touch-screen enterprise-class devices will also include the necessary development tools and middleware which will allow these WFM/HCM providers to integrate their software offerings with ZK much faster and more easily.

On the Access Control side of the business we have a new IP based Access control panel solution with features rich software that can match your fingerprint template right on the panel. That has been adopted very well and we are pursuing this market very aggressively. We also have our IP video surveillance solution, which contains IP cameras, Network Video Recorders and iVision software that is capable of detecting and identifying faces. So we want to have our existing dealers and partners to have a single source manufacturing partner for all their Time & Attendance, Access Control, Video Surveillance needs. We also offer a SDK and all the necessary development tools to help them integrate our products into any of their vertical-specific applications.

FB: That is quite an aggressive plan because I usually think of ZK more associated with fingerprint but you now have face and fingerprint recognition for Time & Attendance and Access control.

ZK: We have always been known as a biometric company, but what we are doing now is moving from a product-oriented company to a solution-oriented company. We have expanded our biometric offering by introducing both Face and Vein recognition technology which can be incorporated into our access control and video surveillance solutions. ZK as a global organization has invested a lot of resources and energy in the last couple of years to develop vertical-specific solutions. Our goal in the coming years is to continue helping our partners grow their business, increasing their market share within their respective regions, and at the end of the day help make them all more money.

FB: Where do you see the residential market heading for biometrics over the next several years?

ZK: Residential is always a tricky market and not because we cannot manufacture or create solutions for them. For ANY manufacturer, residential customers need far more technical assistance than commercial customers. However based on some demand from are partners we are testing the market. We recently launched a very user-friendly easy to learn battery operated fingerprint deadbolt which we call BL100. Our Industry has to do a good job in educating residential users on the benefits of biometric security before the technology will be widely adopted.

FB: Can I ask you the same question about the mobile space? Where do you see mobile going and are you actively getting involved in that particular growth area?

ZK: I think mobile is the future and we will see a lot of growth coming in the near future. We already have few products that will focus on mobile space. Our mobile product will be capable of doing fingerprint and/or face detection and recognition. All I can say right now is stay tuned for our mobile product announcement.

FB: Would you see that for particular vertical industries like healthcare or financial or law enforcement?

ZK: Yes, our face readers both on Access Control and Time & Attendance have generated a lot of demand in various vertical applications. For example, our multi-bio series can do Face and/or fingerprint and/or RFID recognition/verification all in single unit. ZK is the 1st company to do all three in single device. This is very powerful. Users really like all technology in single device with fast matching speed and ease of use. Furthermore, all of the issues about fingerprint where the fingers are not being read when there is what we call a “problem finger”, the face takes care of it. Our partner has used our face product in lot of healthcare and schools and we feel that face recognition product will have much larger growth than fingerprint.

FB: Can you describe a recent deployment for us?

ZK: Yes. We are a partner driven company. Some of the recent deployment by our partners includes a large property management company requiring access control for over 70 doors, a drug cabinet manufacturer that has incorporated our stand alone readers into all their drug cabinets, and a key-locker management system company. We supply our devices to a growing list of over a 150 software partners who provide Time & Attendance, Workforce management and Payroll services.

FB: You have a lot of exciting things going on with your company. What is next for ZK?

ZK: Our focus is having a totally integrated solution within our Time & Attendance, Access Control and IP cameras with face detection and identification.

Customer:Security is an important issue for people's daily lives. It is especially true when it comes to a government where many confidential materials are kept. Recently, the Government of Costa Rica requested for a set of security solutions that would keep their community safe inside out. As ZKTeco provides total security solutions that consist of various cameras with different features, user-friendly software, flexible system that can integrate with other security system, the Government of Costa Rica chose ZKTeco as their provider.

Solution:Hence, ZKTeco developed a set of solutions tailored for the government of Costa Rica. First, the government requested a well-developed surveillance camera that can capture every angle of indoor facility, such as gymnasium, storage room, reception and offices. For this, ZKTeco installed the ZKIP472 with night vision for indoor usage; this product can detect any motion during both day and night. It would then record the suspicious activities and transfer it up to NVR for video storage.

For the outdoor facility, ZKMD372 was installed. Not only does the product support night vision but also has the additional IP66 waterproof function. The IP66 waterproof function is extremely durable and important due to conditional rainfalls within the region. In order to access the videos, ZKiVision Client software would provide local management platform for the user to monitor what is currently happening.

Additionally, ZK's TF1700 access control device was also installed on the outside of the entire facility; equipped with electromagnetic locks. It can perfectly integrate with ZKiVison software. The system will pop up an alert window if someone is opening the door. By that, manger can know the real-time situation of the entry from the control room.

By deploying this solution, the customer can easily control access within one point. This solution is intended to be user-friendly to the customer. The government of Costa Rica intends to have more future cooperation with ZKTeco, thus bringing both sides a great experience.

Solution:In order to solve this problem ZKTeco has come up with a solution with the IPC (ZKIR372). The ZKIR372 has the option of integrating Wi-Fi antenna at the back of the camera, this rules out the Ethernet cable problem since it supports Wi-Fi. It can cover more area - as the ZKIR 372 is communicated by Wi-Fi, it can be moved from one place to another. Therefore no matter how big the farm is, the owner can

Customer:A farm in Norway needs to monitor different areas in farms (Audio & Video) at a reasonable cost; however, they face a few problems. They include difficulty in Ethernet installation and cabling in large and broad area, and unaffordable cost of entire coverage.


Customer:Fuyue Hotel is a five-star hotel which is located in Dongguan city, Guangdong province. It has 25 floors in total, including KTV entertainment, business offices, restaurants and meeting rooms etc. Safety and security would be the major concerns to hotel. Fuyue Hotel needs a total solution of video surveillance to protect whole hotel. ZK has nice reputation in security industry and owns comprehensive service network, the manager of Fuyue Hotel found ZK domestic department and proposed the requirement.

The hotel has more than 100 well-furnished guest rooms. However, no surveillance system had been used in this hotel before. Therefore, the biggest challenge in this project was to set up a complete surveillance system to manage and monitor the hotel, including entrances, lobby, elevators and parking lots etc. Hotel manager required that the record of video footage can be seen clearly especially detailed images

such as vehicles drive-in or out of the parking lots. However, the high temperature in Guangdong could normally cause system failure or image distortion, choosing reliable cameras with high-temperature is of great importance.

Customer:Wisma BSG Building is an office building located in Jakarta Indonesia. The client requires a system that can identify each personnel as they enter the building. Authorized members can only access registered floors. This includes both the visitors and the worker of the company in the Building.

Solution:No. of elevators: 6 elevators (5 for public usage, 1 for delivery usage).

Software Used: ZKAccess 6.0, with Visitor Management System and Elevator Control System. It is used for registering and allocating access privilege, data storage, and report management.

Models Used: 6 pieces of EC10 to manage the 6 elevators. 6 pieces of KR600 ID card readers to read the allocated card.

The admin of the building can register access privilege of the employees’ ID card by ZKAccess 6.0 and allocate to the

companies in the building. When the employees receive their ID cards, they can use the elevator and access to authorized floors. The KR600 installed in the elevator will read their ID card, then EC10 panel will lead the employee to their authorized floors by inputting signals to the elevators. This can prevent unexpected people accessing other companies’ facilities and assets.

For visitors, if they would like to visit certain floors of the building, it is essential for them to first register at the reception area. The visitor management system in the ZKAccess 6.0 will record visitor information including their photos, names, contacts etc. Afterwards, visitors will receive the authorized ID card. With the card, visitor can only access to their designated floors.

The system can also record all the users’ visiting records and can be export from the software. Once there is any emergency or accident, admin can check the data and trick the behavior of suspicious people in the building.

Customer:Car is the most frequently used transporting equipment and has become an indispensable part of human life. It’s simply the most convenient machine that man has ever created. However, some troubles follow when there are too many cars. One of the major issues is being unable to find your parking spot in the neighborhood. There are just as many parking spots as cars. Finding your garage out of several similar garages can often be a confusing task. Imagine what a relief it is if your garage can find you automatically.

Solution:Recently, ZKTeco has come up with a solution that can avoid confusion with the EC10 access control panel. It can make the garage door open automatically when the related car is approaching.

ZKTeco has provided a solution with the EC10 access control panel for a neighborhood in the states. The system consists of an EC10 Access Control Panel, AWID Long Range Reader, Tags, Crestron Panel, and the Garage Door Opener. After the installation, the user can drive up to the main gate, in which the sensor at the gate will communicate with the Crestron panel, notifying that a car has entered. Afterwards, when the car pulls up near the garage door, the tag from the car is being read by the long range reader. Then, EC-10 reads the card number and acts accordingly. Finally the Creston panel gets an input from EC10 and opens the designated garage door while recording the event in the computer along with the Creston panel with status update. At last, the driver can easily have access to the garage.

Customer:The Baku Waste to Energy Project is intended to reduce the need for future landfill and to make use of the energy released by the thermal treatment process to generate electricity and heat. The new development will utilize state of the art technology to comply with strict operational and environmental requirements and it is anticipated that the waste to energy facility will have the nominal capacity to thermally treat approximately 500,000 tons of waste and also generate 231 MW/year of electricity per year. The plant will also have the capability to treat up to 10,000 tons per year of clinical waste. The residue from the process will be an inert clinker, which could be used as a construction material. The Baku Waste to Energy Project is considered to be the biggest Waste-to-Energy Plant in Eastern Europe and CIS countries. As such a large plant, security is of great importance. They decide to deploy a reliable security system and start the cooperation of ZKTeco local partner.

Solution:There are two main buildings needed to be controlled by RFID access control system. One is the administration building and the other one is the factory building. Administration building has 54 doors and 7 floors. and the factory building has 28 doors. To control all of these doors, 82 pieces of KR201 readers and 27 pieces of C3-400 access control panels are used. The ZKAccess software is installed in the server, and all the user information and privilege is managed centralized. The administrator can see all the access control events happening in the building using the real-time monitor interface. It is easier for the security manager to track the history event and get daily or weekly security report.

With this system, the Baku Waste to Energy Plant reduces its security risk and improves management efficiency.

Customer:A tourism company in Germany wants to control access for customers who can use the washroom at a camping site. The company faces a few difficulties that only ZK can help solve. Firstly, the geographical location is in an outdoor mountainous area, with no Ethernet, and with no capacity to connect terminal to software. Secondly, high customer turnover makes it unsafe for the use of standard key locks. Thirdly, registering users on the device is nonviable.

Solution:ZKTeco installed the SC503 at the washroom exterior door. When customers arrive, they will receive a Mifare card registered with washroom privileges, which will then provide them access to these facilities. The Mifare card is pre-registered in the software.All the data and user privilege is stored inside the card and can be read by the SC503 installed at the door. Solution:Recommended by ZKTeco Bolivian partner, 10 units of tripod turnstile TS101 were successfully installed in University of Privada Domingo Savio (UPDS). The intelligent hotel lock system offers standalone solution to meet hotel’s demand on security and management, which features 13.56MHz Mifare card technology and hotel management software. The style and color of lock fit any type of hotel.
