Fall protection, ConstructionThe US Department of Labor (DOL) lists falls from ladders and roofs as one of the leading causes of traumatic occupational death. Any time a worker is at a height of four feet or more, the worker is at risk and needs to be protected




Hazard WarningsAll employers with hazardous chemicals in their workplaces must have labels and material safety data sheets for their exposed workers, and train them to handle the chemicals appropriately.




LaddersFalls from ladders and roofs still account for the majority of falls. Identifying fall hazards and deciding how best to protect workers is the first step in reducing or eliminating fall hazards. Any time a worker is at a height of four feet or more, the worker is at risk and needs to be protected. Fall protection must be provided at four feet in general industry, 5 five in maritime and six feet in construction.




Respiratory protectionRespirators protect workers against insufficient oxygen environments, harmful dusts, fogs, smokes, mists, gases, vapors, and sprays. These hazards may cause cancer, lung impairment, other diseases, or death.




Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tagout), "Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)" refers to specific practices and procedures to safeguard employees from the unexpected energization or startup of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities.

Unfortunately, most employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training.
