Birch Point Provincial Park Encounter the unique migration of the beloved monarch butterfly. The unique campground is nestled along the shores of Lake of the Woods. A boat launch lets you access superb fishing throughout the year, June is the best time to try your hand at landing a monster walleye. Or have a winter adventure on the ice looking for a northern pike catch of a life time. The campground has 26 basic sites in a beautiful setting. Pick a lakefront site for a view of the moon rising over the lake as frogs call in the background. During the day, take a stroll in the campground amongst cedar and willow as you look for wild cucumbers. The waters of Lake of the Woods abound with life; look for water otters, loons, mergansers, grebes and pelican bobbing among the waves. Keep your eyes out for Monarch Butterflies in August as they start to wing their way south from the shores of the lake to Mexico. Birch Point Provincial Park is located on Lake of the Woods. To get here from Winnipeg travel south on PTH 12, turn left on PR 308 and travel 35 km. Enter at Moose Lake Provincial Park. More information on Birch Point Campground and Birch Point Provincial Park is available on request from the park office. Campground Tips • Prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Always “Clean, Drain, Dry, Dispose and Decontaminate If”. Visit Manitoba.ca/StopAIS . • Only build fires in a designated firepit or use a camp stove. Before leaving make sure your fire is completely out. • Please! Do not litter. • Be sensitive to wildlife. Bears can be dangerous and should not be fed. Food must be stored away from your campsite, preferably in a locked vehicle, to avoid attracting hungry animals. Do not store food in your tent. • The use of insect repellent will add to your comfort. • Learn to recognize and avoid poisonous plants such as poison ivy. • In case of injury or illness contact a Campground Attendant or Park Patrol Officer. They can assist you to reach medical help. • Canoeists and hikers travelling in backcountry areas should advise a friend of their intended destination and anticipated length of trip. • Backcountry camping is only allowed at designated campsites. • It is illegal to use or transport elm firewood. • Moving firewood can spread harmful invasive species and destroy our forests. Protect Manitoba’s trees. Don’t move firewood.
