Introduction and Mission Statement
The mission of the Train To Groom program at the Bishop Grooming Academy is to provide high
quality vocational training for adult students in the field of dog and pet grooming, preparing them
for immediate employment in good-paying jobs in an industry where there is a chronic shortage
of capable and trained practitioners.
Owner, Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins was one of the first International Certified Master Groomers in
the nation, attaining that elite title in 1985. She has owned and managed grooming operations,
taught in grooming schools, and been an active participant in the animal care profession for
decades. Jennifer was also a career educator teaching high school and college for twenty-five
years. She holds several advanced degrees and certificates in education. Her husband, Bill
Jenkins, has a Master of Fine Arts degree and has been a college professor for over twenty years.
He is currently an Associate Professor at Dominican University in River Forest, IL. Out of this
strong educational background, Jennifer has combined these two areas of expertise and has
become one of the very few, if not only, grooming instructors in the country who is a Certified
Master Groomer and an award-winning Master Teacher.
In recent years, after Jennifer's daughter was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, an
impairment that put her on disability and left her unable to hold a traditional job, Jennifer decided
to start her own business in order for her daughter to have her therapy dog with her while she
learns a flexible career that she enjoys. As dog grooming is a profession that is suitable for many
of the disabled who are also highly functional, starting the Love Fur Dogs grooming shop and the
Bishop Grooming Academy as a private business and vocational school is an important part of
the family’s plan to not only help their daughter but also others like her, as well.
As the idea for the grooming academy began to mature, Jennifer and her husband realized that
they would be able to serve not only the able community and adults who need a career in a good-
paying profession where jobs are plentiful, but also many of the high-functioning physically and
mentally disabled as well as the deaf and the veteran communities, among others. Jennifer’s
work in the public schools and training in disability accommodations makes her uniquely suited
to establish a high quality training program that actively recruits and teaches the disabled in a
mainstreamed environment with other students of all ages and ability levels.
The Bishop Grooming Academy is a model of putting America back to work. With its quality
curriculum, state of the art facility, and disability accommodations combined with the well-
documented shortage of skilled workers in the pet grooming industry, the Bishop Grooming
Academy will be able to put hundreds of Americans into the job market and in so doing, moving
many off disability and parental support and into their own rewarding careers.

Curriculum
Program of Study and Coursework
The Bishop School of Grooming will offer two certificate courses in Dog/Pet Grooming at two
levels of performance. One professional certificate will be awarded in Professional Pet Grooming
following completion of the Professional All-Breed Groomer course. Another professional
certificate will be awarded in Professional Groomer Assistant for satisfactory completion of the
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog
5
Groomer Assistant course. Each of these courses will have professional certificates awarded, as
well under the auspices of International Professional Groomers, Inc., a national industry
accreditation organization.
The Professional All-Breed Groomer Course will give the student the option of seeking a
certificate in Professional Pet Grooming that will enable him or her to enter the job market with
all the skills necessary to be a groomer in a grooming shop. The curriculum for this course will
cover anatomy, health and safety, bathing and drying, maintenance grooming, using established
tools and techniques, and cutting the pet's hair/fur to exacting specifications based on breed
standards and customer's input. Upon completion, students will have all the necessary skills,
techniques, and tools to seek employment in a field that consistently has many job openings.
The Professional Groomer Assistant Course will enable the student to enter the job market
qualified to function as a groomer assistant. Groomer assistants do not perform artistic elements
of pet grooming, specifically cutting the dog's hair/fur. Groomer assistants do prepare dogs for
bathing, de-shed and de-mat, care for nails and ears, and they bathe and dry dogs in preparation
for grooming. Even at this level the groomer assistant can make well above minimum wage.
Upon completion, graduates will be qualified to assist groomers with bathing and preparing dogs
for the final artistic grooming. This position is a good choice for those who have difficulty with,
or who choose not to master the more advanced skills of cutting the animal's hair/fur.
Through coursework, lectures, guest speakers, field trips, videos, and supervised instruction
during hands-on practice, students will develop the knowledge and practical skills necessary to
function at their respective level in the field of pet grooming. Students testing successfully will
also receive professional certificates as described below awarded by International Professional
Groomers, Inc. in the course of their training and upon graduation.
Students at the Bishop Grooming Academy will receive the Academy’s Professional Grooming
Certificate upon satisfactory completion of the Professional All-Breed Grooming course.
Students completing the Groomer Assistant course will receive the Academy’s Professional
Groomer Assistant Certificate.
Students who complete their respective courses with less than a 70% grade will receive an
Academy Certificate of Completion for the course as described above.
Industry estimates indicate that there are over 30,000 vacancies for dog and pet groomers
nationwide. This is a field that pays well, gives employees flexibility as well as security, and is
suitable for a wide variety of skill levels and abilities. Grooming schools regularly report a high
graduate employment rate immediately upon graduation. As the market is far from saturation, the
demand is likely to persist for many years.
Professional Certificates
In addition to the Academy certificates of graduation, while enrolled in the school all students
will be able to test for and receive their Bathing Certificate and take an online certification test for
their Certified Salon Professional Certificate (CSP), both awarded by International Professional
Groomers, Inc. (IPG). Additionally, students who graduate from the Professional All-Breed
Groomer Course will test for their Certified Professional Groomer Certificate (CPG) at their first
opportunity.

The Bathing Certificate is awarded after testing for proper preparation for bathing, use of various
chemical treatments and shampoos, caring for ears and nails, hygiene and safety, and proper
bathing procedures. This certificate is a professional certificate from IPG that can be awarded by
the student's instructor after proper demonstration of skills and passing a written test. There is no
extra charge for this testing.
The Certified Salon Professional Certificate is a professional certificate from IPG that is awarded
after passing an online written test that comprehensively evaluates the student's knowledge of
working with dogs and other animals in a professional grooming environment; salon equipment,
tools, layout, operation, business structure; grooming basics and general animal knowledge; and
best professional practices in the field. The cost for this certificate is $150 and includes the
testing fee and workbook/study guide. The fee for this testing is included in the student's fees and
is not optional. Students in both courses of study will be tested for these certificates prior to
graduation.
The Certified Professional Groomer Certificate is a professional certificate from IPG that is
awarded only after graduating from the Professional All-Breed Groomer Course. This test will
evaluate scissoring and clipping techniques and abilities that student groomers learn. As
instructors in the school cannot certify their own students, testing for this certificate is typically
done at various trade and professional events throughout the country or by special arrangement
with a certified instructor with whom they are not associated. Students will test for this certificate
at their first opportunity following graduation. The cost for this certificate is $200 and includes
the testing fee, a workbook/study guide, and a one year membership in IPG. The fee for this
testing will be included in the student's fees and is not optional.
Testing packages for these certificates will be purchased at a discount in bulk quantities from IPG
and therefore cannot be optional.

service grooming and retail sales to the local community. This is also the facility that the students
will train and work while completing their diploma program.

Faculty
Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins, Owner, Chief Instructor and Administrator
International Certified Master Groomer with over 25 years of teaching experience
Adjunct faculty members will also teach at the Bishop Grooming Academy. All teachers hired at
the Bishop Grooming Academy must have at least 5 years of professional grooming experience
and either be already certified as Master Groomers by the International Pet Groomers Association
(IPG), the National Dog Grooming Association of America (NDGAA), the International Society
of Canine Cosmetologists (ISCC), or be working towards that certification. This certification is a
recognition of advanced training and experience and includes practical and knowledge-based
testing for breed standard grooming for the various types of dogs recognized by the American
Kennel Club (AKC). As the certification process can be lengthy, instructors at the Bishop
Grooming Academy have two years to complete the process in order to continue teaching at the
school. This credential is important to the student’s training as only Certified Master Groomers
can teach students who desire to achieve that professional rank.
Industry Accreditation
The Bishop Grooming Academy is not accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
Department of Education.
International Professional Groomers, Inc. (IPG), based in Salem, OR is one of three accreditation
bodies for the grooming profession. The National Dog Groomers Association of America
(NDAA), and the International Society of Canine Cosmetologists (ISCC) both offer professional
level certification, as well. As is typical with such institutions, their focus, protocols, fees, and
emphasis on certain criteria varies slightly.
In order for a groomer to receive the highest levels of certification, they must study under master
groomers who has already achieved that level of certification and pass comprehensive advanced
level practical and written tests. This testing, along with additional advanced training, is often
provided at various industry conferences and trade events throughout the year around the country.
Testing can also be held at accredited grooming school, however, to avoid conflicts of interest no
testing official may test anyone who is their student, employee, or co-worker.
The Bishop Grooming Academy is accredited as a member school of IPG. As such, the school
agrees to abide by ethics, standards, and practices consistent with the highest quality of care and
performance in the field of pet grooming. The school will be judged on criteria such as number
of student training hours, curriculum, qualifications of the faculty, abiding by an industry
standard code of ethics, participation in continuing education for faculty and administration, and
resources for students.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
The Bishop Grooming Academy recognizes that not all students may be suitable for training in
the profession of pet grooming and that this may not be discovered until some time into the
educational process and that there may be events beyond the student’s control that may require
them to suspend or even cancel their training.
These problems will be addressed on an individual basis as the need arises. All requests or
complaints regarding the curriculum, content, practical training, and teacher performance will be
taken seriously by the administration, fully investigated, and resolved as amicably as possible.
Regarding suitability of the student to continue, the administration will make every possible and
reasonable effort to help the student succeed and finish the program. This could include, for
example, advising the student to change program levels from the Professional Groomer course to
the Assistant course with a commensurate reduction in tuition and appropriate refund, if
necessary. It could also include modifying the student’s schedule, accommodation options, and
investigating other methods of assistance. If these efforts are not successful, the student will be
refunded the remaining amount of tuition based on the pro-rated schedule below.
In the case of personal problems arising between the student and school personnel, every effort
will be made to mediate relationship problems. In the professional working world, people don’t
generally get to pick and choose who they work with, and it is important for students to learn to
work with all types of colleagues. That said, bullying, harassment, and intentionally creating an
unfavorable workplace environment will not be tolerated and disciplinary action will be swiftly
taken against any member of the Academy who violates the school’s Code of Conduct. Again,
every effort will be made to resolve the conflict and enable the student to complete the training
program. If these efforts are not successful, the student will be refunded the remaining amount of
tuition based on the pro-rated schedule below.
If the student finds that he or she, through no fault of his or her own, must temporarily leave the
program (i.e. illness of a family member, maternity, personal exigency, etc.) the student may
apply in writing for an official leave of absence/suspension of training for a mutually agreed upon
period for up to one year. Anytime during that period the student may return to complete the
course with no penalty. Please note that the student must be in good academic standing with
tuition paid in full to take advantage of this option. If the student determines during this time that
he or she must withdraw from the program a refund will be made based on the remaining amount
of time left in the course according to the pro-rated schedule below.
Moving Between Courses of Study
A student may move from one course of study to the other within 3 weeks of the first class as this
is the time when the curriculum significantly diverges. Students moving from the Assistant
course to the Professional Groomer course must pay the difference in tuition or may opt to
participate in the tuition payment plan at this time. Students moving from the Professional
Groomer course to the Assistant course will be issued a refund as appropriate.
Once the student has completed three weeks of instruction, students may make this change only
with administration approval. At this point, students may require a skills evaluation and an
individualized instruction plan. As noted above, additional tuition expenses may be incurred if
the student must stay in the program longer than the number of weeks specified for completion of
the course.
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog
13
Withdrawal Procedure
Students must submit their request for withdraw from the program to the administration in writing.
Withdraw from the program will be effective immediately upon receipt of written notice. Written
notice may be delivered personally, by mail, or by email. Telephone communication is not an
acceptable form of notification. Any tuition refund due will be calculated from the end of the week
in which the written notice is received and paid to the student within seven business days.
Tuition Refund Schedule
If the student decides to terminate his or her enrollment before completing the respective course,
an early withdrawal fee will be assessed, the student’s deposit will be forfeited, and the student
will be entitled to a refund of the remaining pro-rated tuition as shown below:

School Calendar
The Bishop Grooming Academy will operate year-round with new course sessions beginning
every month. Using this model, students will be functioning at varying levels of ability and
supervised accordingly, much like a one room schoolhouse. Students will be encouraged to learn
collaboratively from one another throughout the course of the day.
Students will be responsible for showing their mastery of certain skills as they relate to certain
types of dogs and breeds. Many grooming schools focus on completing a specific number of
animals before awarding a degree. This has proven to be counter-productive for the students and
often unnecessarily prolongs their training and has created friction as the student realizes that
their presence is being deliberately prolonged in order to provide free labor, placing the school in
violation of the Private Business and Vocational Schools Act of 2012 (Sec. 85, h., 4).
In the grooming profession skill building is cumulative. Basic skills, once learned, are repeated
throughout the course while new skills are continually added as the groomer becomes more
capable of increasingly complex grooming tasks. Once the student’s skills in a certain area have
been demonstrated as satisfactory that skill will be considered complete.
In order to graduate from the Bishop Grooming Academy, students must score 70% or above on
both the written and practical portions of the final exam. This exam may be administered at any
time upon mutual agreement with the student and administration after the 12th week of training
but must be taken no later than at the end of the 16th week for the Professional All-Breed course
or 8th week for the Groomer Assistant course.
In the event that the student does not successfully pass the final graduation exam, scoring less
than 70% on the practical and written portions, the student will be given the opportunity to
continue improving his or her skills for a mutually agreed upon period of time. If this extends
beyond the 16th or 8th week, respectively, additional tuition fees may apply. If the student fails a
second attempt of the exam he or she will be awarded a Certificate of Completion rather than a
diploma from the academy. Multiple attempts at passing the final exam may be considered as an
accommodation for students with recognized disabilities.
Once students have satisfactorily demonstrated that they have developed their skill sets to a
professional level, they will be awarded the appropriate diploma/certificate in a brief ceremony
during the school day. Some students may progress faster than others in their class, some may
progress slower, but all will be given the opportunity to proceed at their own pace in order to
maximize their potential for employment.
New courses begin the first Monday of every month for accepted students. A sample course

Admission
Admission to the Bishop Grooming Academy’s professional certificate programs is open to all
adults (18 years or over) who are interested in pursuing the rigorous vocational training that is
necessary to qualify as a professional pet groomer. It is not a degree program and certifications
may be earned through taking one course.
There are no academic pre-requisites for admission, however, a student’s ability to read and
comprehend English at the 8th grade level or above will be helpful for instructional materials and
testing. Accommodations may be made for otherwise suitable students who do not function at
this level. An academic transcript will be requested but not required. Graduation from high
school is not required.
The physical requirements for admission are full dexterity in both hands, normal visual acuity, the
ability to lift 30 to 40 lbs, stand for extended periods of time, bend over for short periods of time
while working, ascend and descend stairs, and safely handle and control sharp cutting tools while
handling a live and moving animal. These are the minimal requirements without accommodation.
Students with mobility issues can generally be accommodated with little trouble in our ADA
compliant facility depending on the severity of the physical limitation. They may be paired with
another student so that all necessary tasks are learned and performed. Even a student in a
wheelchair with use of both hands can groom with the services of an assistant to bathe the dogs.
Hearing impairments are not a disqualifying factor in the field and deaf students are encouraged
to enroll. Hearing impaired students may require the services of a deaf interpreter for classroom
sessions, videos (when closed captioning is not available), and lectures. Alternative
communication methods can be easily accommodated during practical sessions which comprise
most of the day.
In the case of emotional or psychological disability, the emotional and intellectual standards for
enrolled students are:
a. To be able to safely, calmly and patiently handle and care for a live animal for several
hours at a time and to safely use the sharp cutting tools of a groomer.
b. To be able to understand and carry out directions from teachers, students, and others calmly
and without undue delay.
c. To exhibit patience with the motion and behavior of animals while working with them in a
professional and public environment.
d. To be able to apply the skills learned previously to future training and work situations and
to build one skill upon the next towards mastery.
e. If an IEP is available for the student, the school will require that it be provided.
All students will be required to have an up to date tetanus shot prior to contact with any animals.
All students will be required to sign a student contract upon application agreeing to expected
standards of behavior and school policies.
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog
17
All students will be required to sign a non-competition agreement upon acceptance to the
program agreeing not to open a grooming business within a five mile radius of the school for a
period of two years after graduation and to not solicit customers of Love Fur Dogs.
All students will be required to submit a non-refundable $100 deposit with their application. If
accepted, this deposit will be credited towards the student’s tuition.
Transfer Students
The school does not guarantee the transferability of credits to another school, college, or
university. Credits or coursework are not likely to transfer; any decision on the comparability,
appropriateness and applicability of credit and whether credit should be accepted is the decision
of the receiving institution.
Likewise, there is no guarantee that coursework or credits from another grooming school will be
transferable to the Bishop Grooming Academy.
Students who transfer into the Bishop Grooming Academy from another training program will be
evaluated on their existing skills and level of training by the administration and an individualized
instruction plan will be developed for them along with a mutually agreed upon tuition of
approximately $1500 per month for the projected time it will take for them to complete their
training to academy standards.
Disclosure
The Bishop Grooming Academy will abide by all FERPA regulations. During the students
admission interview student privacy and disclosure will be discussed with the student. Anyone
admitted as a student and whose tuition is being paid or subsidized by another party (parents,
guardians, institution, grants, etc.) will have the opportunity to sign an agreement for full or
limited disclosure of progress to that party in consideration of that person's vested interest in the
student's education.
For students entering with a documented need for disability accommodations, it will be required
that a progress meeting with the financially responsible party or representative will take place at a
minimum of once every two weeks or when requested by that party, the school, or the student
unless waived in writing. Additionally, if desired by the parties, the financially responsible party
may be copied on all written or emailed communication to the student regarding both positive and
negative feedback from the administration of the school.
Delayed Graduation
In the event that the student remains actively enrolled and needs more time beyond the 16 or 8
week schedule that is typical for graduation in his or her respective course, the student may be
charged an additional tuition fee of $1500 per month.
This fee may also apply when students have excessive absences, change courses of study after the
cutoff date, or otherwise require prolonged instruction or training that takes them past the 16 or 8
week completion dates.
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog
18
Delays due to extended school closings for professional events, instructor availability, or facility
availability through factors beyond the control of the school will not be counted against the
students’ time in the course.
Student Complaints
The Bishop Grooming Academy is intended to be a small, tight-knit community of students and
educators. Everyone will be treated as members of the academy family. That said, conflicts
inevitably arise in such institutions. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to bring any and all
complaints to the attention of the administration either verbally or in writing. All complaints
brought to the administration's attention will be taken seriously.
If a complaint is lodged verbally, it will be considered an informal complaint until the student or
employee makes it a formal complaint in writing. If the student or employee elects not to make
the complaint a formal one, they will be asked how they would like the administrator to proceed
on an informal basis and the administrator will do their best to resolve the problem without
escalating the situation.
If the student or employee submits a formal complaint in writing, the administrator will take
appropriate action to immediately investigate and address the complaint, calling it to the attention
of the appropriate parties after determining what level of response it rates. The administration of
the school will make every effort to resolve the complaint in a prompt and appropriate manner,
including engaging professional mediation services to resolve the dispute.
Bullying, harassment, and intentionally creating an unfavorable workplace environment will not
be tolerated and disciplinary action will be swiftly taken against any member of the academy who
violates the school’s Code of Conduct.
If these efforts are not successful and the student still feels they can no longer continue at the
academy, the student will be refunded the remaining amount of tuition based on the published
pro-rated schedule.
Immediately upon submitting a complaint to the administration, the student will be advised of his
or her right to make a formal complaint to the IBHE through the Board's website at
www.IBHE.org, or by mail at the Illinois Board of Higher Education, 431 East Adams, 2nd
Floor, Springfield, Illinois 62701-1404. Phone: (217) 782-2551

Student Handbook Policies
Upon application, all students are required to sign a release of liability and affirm that they will
abide by all policies and procedures set forth by the Academy for behavior and decorum in a
vocational education environment where they are interacting with faculty, staff, and the general
public in an open environment. The following is a reprint of that agreement.
TRAIN TO GROOM / BISHOP GROOMING ACADEMY STUDENT MANUAL AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY:
Bishop Grooming Academy and Love Fur Dogs, LLC (Academy) does and will take every reasonable
precaution to ensure the safety of the students, staff, and dogs before, during, and after the school and
work day. Vital to that fundamental emphasis on safety will be student commitment to following safety
protocols with diligence and consistency, faithfully every single minute of every single day.
Working with dogs, cats, clippers and other tools can be unpredictable. Please come to school well-rested,
wearing close-toed highly supportive (we recommend professional orthotic) shoes and socks, comfortable
pants of an appropriate material (i.e. surgical scrubs) designed not to absorb hair, and shirt (T-shirts are
fine) as we will be wearing a uniform smock. Please do not wear perfume of any kind. If you smoke,
please let your clothes air out outside for a minimum of two minutes before entering the shop. Smokers
are required to smoke in the alley behind the shop, at the enforced 15 feet from the door. Smokers are also
required to use the supplied ashtray and to be helpful in constantly cleaning it. Smokers are never allowed
to smoke in front of the business and are expected to do extra work to keep the exteriors of our building
clean.
You will be expected to clean up after all animals each day. Be sure that whatever you wear, it is
washable. Jewelry is to be kept at an absolute minimum. Hair is to be clean and away from the face,
pulled back is preferable if the hair is long. No dangling earrings, bracelets, etc. No inappropriate
messaging on tattoos or clothing is to be visible, and modest respectful behavior and dress is expected by
everyone at all times. Other safety protocols, such as proper pet handling, hearing protection while in the
drying room, etc. will be enforced without exception.
By attending this school where you will train for a rewarding professional career, you are expected to
maintain professionalism and integrity at all times. The full LOVE FUR DOGS LLC Employee Manual
must be read and agreed to and contains our ethics and expectations as to all personnel present in our
business. It is to be followed at all times.
The Academy follows a general syllabus for each course that works around the dogs (and optionally, cats)
that come in each week. Each day can be different, given what customer dogs come in. In general the 12-
16 week course will proceed as follows:
1. Between 30 minutes to two hours daily of THEORY - videos, teacher-led demonstrations, discussion,
book material, testing, question and answer, business practices, anatomy, safety, breeds, coat types,
equipment care, customer service, etc.
2. One month of bathing/brushing, maintenance grooming, and Salon Basics.
3. One month of Clipper work emphasis
4. Final weeks perfecting finishing techniques such as hand scissoring, hand stripping, thinning shears,
etc.
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog

Love Fur Dogs, LLC, is an actively operating grooming business. The students will be expected to uphold
the schedule necessary to the business, working alongside staff for the well-being of all pet customers.
Duties can include checking in dogs, answering phones, grooming and bathing. And everyone will clean,
several times a day. Everyone cleans, all the time - an essential part of grooming. The first priority of
students and all staff is to the well-being of our two-legged and four-legged customers, as without
customers there are no dogs to practice on, there is no business. Teachers must prioritize the needs of the
paying customers that keep the business operating. If you need teacher assistance, you may have to wait
sometimes. Please notify the teacher of your need for help, then wait patiently. Every two minutes,
remind the teacher that you still need help. Teachers will be constantly checking and critiquing your
work. Please know that among our encouraging comments we will also honestly instruct ways for you to
improve. The best students are life-long learners that always want to learn from those with more
experience than themselves. Even Master Groomers learn new things all the time. Take instruction with
grace and you will excel! As with any highly active grooming shop, multi-tasking, stress management,
and a constantly positive professional team spirit and collegiality are necessary for all students and staff.
Class runs Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until we are finished. Some days we will only be doing 1-2
dogs per student, some days more. Dismissal will never be before 3 pm and could be as late as 5. No one
is to leave until they are checked out by a teacher. Flexibility is a desirable trait.
Students will be required to attend one field experience during their training. There are many free dog
shows frequently held in the Chicago area where students can see breed standards at their best. This is a
valuable training activity and students will be notified of the schedules for the all-breed shows held in
northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin throughout the year.
There will also be guest speakers and seminars from time to time on areas of professional improvement
that all will be required to attend.
All students, regardless of course, will receive their Bather certificate and Certified Salon Professional
certificate during the course of their training. Additionally, students will be trained in Canine CPR.
Students of the Professional All-Breed Groomer Course will receive a one year membership to the
International Professional Groomers, Inc. with their Certified Grooming Professional testing fee and are
strongly encouraged to ultimately become Certified Master Groomers (We recommend that you not
attempt this high level of testing until you have at least 1-2 years of working experience as a groomer).
Students are also encouraged to engage in the social media national community of groomers, but to
always without fail maintain a positive and highly professional public persona. Anything less reflects
very badly on our business and the grooming profession in general.
Love Fur Dogs, LLC offers some free services to law enforcement and service dogs as a thank you for the
good they do in our communities. Students are a vital part of this very special aspect of our business.
Love Fur Dogs, LLC also has a deeply held commitment to embracing the differently abled and expect
nothing but tolerant, respectful, appropriate, and helpful behavior towards all people of all diverse
backgrounds. Further, no harassment, discriminatory, or sexually inappropriate behavior or language will
be tolerated. Our business is a "no-drama" zone. Gossip and problem-stirring will not be tolerated. We
work together as a positive team for the love and well-being of the animals we serve. This is a NOBLE
profession, one that demands the best from each of us.
Bishop Grooming Academy – 2014 Academic Catalog
21
Students agree to abide by the non-compete, non-disclose, non-solicit contracts that all employees sign,
meaning that no human or pet customer of Love Fur Dogs, LLC is to be contacted, solicited, data taken
from the business, lured away, etc. Copies of the agreement will be given to all students. And we have a
strict rule that we never bad mouth any competitor in the animal business. We say only that we love and
appreciate everyone who works in the pet care industry.
Working with live animals does contain some element of risk, as do many professions such as health care,
law enforcement, firefighting, construction work, etc. Groomers can expect to be bitten, scratched, etc.
and you must prioritize the safety protocols we will teach you and adhere to them strictly. This is
IMPORTANT. Also vital to your safety and that of our clients is that you learn proper behavioral
management of dogs. We will teach you this vital information, but it begins and ends with CALM,
CONFIDANT, CONSISTENT, COMMAND, CONTROL of all animals at all times. Your mindset and
temperament will make ALL the difference.
As a student of the Bishop Grooming Academy, Love Fur Dogs, LLC, I agree to all of the above and the
following:
I, __________________________________________________________(print name), do release Love
Fur Dogs, LLC and the Bishop Grooming Academy and its staff from any and all injuries that I may incur
during my attendance at the business that may result from my own negligence. Further, I release the
Academy and/or its staff from having any responsibility regarding my work in the profession of dog or
cat grooming after I graduate from my course. I commit fully to place the safety and well-being of our
live animal customers above all other considerations. I will work patiently and without stress. If
negligence or irresponsibility contributes in any way to an injury of an animal or loss of a client, I will be
held personally financially responsible for that loss. I understand that pet grooming is a highly
individualized profession, as much art as it is science, and with every groomer being able to work at
different speeds and with a variety of skills and skill levels. The amount of money that I will be making in
this field will be determined by my own ability to handle dogs, handle the customers, care for my body,
and handle the environment and economy where I will be working. I realize the factors vital to my own
success are under my own control and that there are no guarantees that I will make a certain level of
income. Most groomers are paid on commission (i.e. 50% of the grooming charge) and that the speed I
build up over time, while maintaining the quality of work, will be all important to my earning potential.
Love Fur Dogs, LLC and the Bishop Grooming Academy is profoundly invested in the success of our
students. We will do everything within our power to help you achieve the results you desire from this
vocational educational commitment.
