c) They provide medicinal plants, herbs and many other forest products such as

Answer: The networks of roads connecting major cities of the country are called

highways.

Some of the world famous highways are:

a) The King’s Highway 401 in Canada.

b) The Australian Transcontinental Highway.

c) The Pan American Highway.

2. Who invented the first aeroplane and when? List some international airlines.

Answer: The Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville invented the first aeroplane in the year

1903.

Some important airlines are:

a) American Airlines (USA)

b) British Airways (Britain)

c) Air Canada (Canada)

d) Lufthansa (Germany)

e) Emirates (UAE)

3. Write short note.

a) Inland waterways :- Some big rivers and lakes which are navigable are used as

waterways in India, large rivers like the Brahmaputra and Ganga are used for

inland waterways transportation.

b) Ocean transport :- Seas and oceans are used for transportation of heavy goods like

foodgrains, mineral ores and petroleum. This forms the ocean transport. Some

important sea routes are the suez canal route and the panama canal route.

c) The Grand Trunk Road (G.T. Road): It connects India and Pakistan. It is one of

the oldest highways in India. It was built more than 400 years ago by Sher Shah

Suri, and connects Sonargaon presently in Bangladesh to Multan, presently in

Pakistan.
