    Festival ToolkitBisi Badminton Festival

This Festival has been planned to accommodate 80 pupils

(10 teams) in a four court badminton hall and can be easily

adapted for varying numbers. Activities are differentiated by

outcome and can be refined to reflect the needs of young people

with learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities.

All the Festival activities are included in the Bisi Badminton

Primary lesson plans. Therefore, if pupils have experienced both

units 3 and 4, they will be already familiar with the Festival

    activities.

Each of the Festival activities support talent identification

and these are categorised into athleticism, coordination and

tactical awareness. The BADMINTON England Raw Talent

Identification Tool can be used during the Festival to help

identification of potential new players who could be invited

to a Performance Centre or a Premier Club. Completion of

the raw talent identification tool could be undertaken by a

    badminton coach or specialised teacher.

Sports Leaders and Badminton Junior Helper Award (BJHA)

students could lead each of the activity stations.

    This Toolkit contains:

Activity Plan: Layout for a four court badminton hall.

Equipment List: All equipment required to run the Festival

(equipment is available for purchase through

    BADMINTON England).

Activity Station Cards: These include the activity

description, scoring instructions and equipment required

    for the activity.

Activity Station Titles: Can be attached adjacent to

    activity area.

10 Team Names: Cards which can be used to aid

organisation of teams at the beginning and at the end

of the Festival (an additional card is also included, for

    additional names).

Score card: Teams take their score card to eachactivity station.

The more ticks that appear for a player, the more likely a

Performance Centre should consider inviting the player to

become involved in the Performance Programme. Other players

who have attracted few ticks but have indicated that they want

to play badminton could be directed to Performance Centre

Club Pathway activities or to other clubs that have a workingrelationship with a Performance Centre. (Note that the

Trainability and Task Mastery section may not be filled out

during a Bisi Festival, as this is a one-off, however, a teacher

who has worked with a pupil for an extended period could

complete this information with greater accuracy).

Excerpt from BADMINTON England Performance Centre

Coaching and Mentoring Handbook, February 2008.

Bisi Badminton Festivals are the ideal introduction to badminton. Festival activities are intended to provide

success for all and opportunity for differentiation. Hosting a Festival whether within a school partnership orclub environment enables excellent opportunities for young people to meet and experience participating

in fun activities. The Bisi Badminton Key Stage 1 Festival toolkit has been designed for teachers, coaches,

Regional Officers, Competition Managers and organisers to aid the administration and smooth running of a

    Bisi Badminton Festival.
