Getting FamiliarBitTorrent Terminology: Peer – A participant of torrent uploading or

downloading. Leecher – Peer downloading from a torrent

site. Seeder – Peer uploading to a torrent site. Tracker – A server that keeps track of peers .torrent – A file that containing metadata

about all files.

How it works BitTorrent needs files called torrents to

be able to work. Each peer becomes a source, receiving

pieces of requested files. They also provide pieces of the

requested files to each other becoming a network of leeches and seeders.

The peers receive pieces of the requested file to make a whole.

How it works: continued.. Upon download the peer receives a

torrent file. The torrent contains the name, size,

checksum and address of the tracker.

The tracker will connect computers called peers together

BitTorrent uses a computer called a tracker

BitTorrent turns leeches into sources

More sources = faster downloads!
