The function was enriched by the presence of Mr Aman Sahni, Vice Chairman, Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) and Delhi Technical Campus (DTC). Speaking on the joyful occasion, he said,” We must be thankful to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation while celebrating this Independence Day”. Prof. (Dr) Ravikant Swami, Director, DME, expressed his happiness on organising the celebrations while expressing hope for a better time to come post-corona. The unique merrymaking of the Independence acknowledged the front-line warriors who have been working day and night to help people during the COVID pandemic. Mr Kiran Verma, who has served Prof. (Dr) Susmita Bala, Head of DME Media School, called upon the students and other citizens to do everything possible for the sake of the country. Prof. (Dr) Ambrish Saxena, Dean, DME Media School also endorsed his viewpoint adding that we have a responsibility to protect our hard earned freedom. Prof. Mira Desai Encourages Students to Pursue Research with Audience in Mind

The second lecture of Day 2 of session orientation program - SOP 2020 was on the topic 'Media Research: What and Why? The invited expert for the session was Prof. (Dr) Mira Desai, Head, Extension and communication, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai.

Prof. Desai highlighted the major role that communication plays in the field of research. Talking about the entire process of a good research, Prof. Desai said, “Communication helps us in understanding our target audience and research helps us in connecting with this audience”.She further urged the students to take the route to the good old library instead of depending on the internet for information collection for research. She concluded the lecture by saying that research is usually considered a difficult subject but with proper knowledge & understanding it can be made easy.

An orientation session to familiarise third semester students of DME Media School with radio programming and production by Ms Kajal Suri, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Delhi was organised on August 6. The session on 'Radio Programme Formats' was a part of one-week Session Orientation Programme - SOP 2020, organised by DME Media School.

Ms Tinam Borah, Assistant Professor, DME introduced and welcomed Ms Suri, while Ms Sukriti Arora, Assistant Professor, DME gave

Understanding and Appreciating Cinema with Prince Shadwal

The one-week digital Session Orientation Programme - SOP 2020, organised by DME Media School, witnessed a comprehensive discourse on the world of cinema on the third day of the programme on August 6. Emerging filmmaker Mr Prince Shadwal, was the keynote speaker during this session on 'How to appreciate a film?'

Mr Shadwal began the session by explaining

The fourth day of SOP 2020, organised by DME Media School witnessed an interesting discussion on the topic - 'Radio & Your Forever Friend' on August 7. The session was conducted by Ms Divya Vasudev, RJ Radio City, and TedX Speaker, New Delhi.The session allowed the third semester students to get a first-hand learning experience on the subject of radio jockeying and news reading from a media expert. Ms Vasudev in her lecture addressed the misconceptions people have about radio such as – Radio Jockeying being an easy job and radio having low listenership. She also shared about the skills a good RJ requires such as observation, creativity, spontaneity and storytelling. Ms Vasudev emphasised on the art of storytelling. “Storytelling is the soul of radio”, she commented. Further she shared some real-life experiences from her visit to Longewala border for a show on Republic Day.

The third semester students were introduced to 'Development Communication' by Ms Sanchita Chakraborty on August 4 via Google meet.Ms Chakraborty gave the students a brief introduction to the subject while explaining the context of the term - development. She emphasized on the importance of the

subject and said, “Development communication is a vast and progressive field which will always remain an important subject”. She said, “It will always be in priority because there are lots of developmental issues which are crucial in understanding the basics of development”. She explained the syllabus to the students and tried to gather their interest in the subject. She signed off with a remark on developmental issues. “One issue is never entirely developed. Our task is to know where to find the issues and put it in front of others”, she said.

Basic of New Media Introduced with Relevant Case Studiesby Kritika Sati

The first-lecture of the Internal Orientation sessions for fifth semester was held on the topic 'Basics of New Media' on August 04, 2020. Ms Kritika Sati, Assistant Professor, DME, enlightened the students on the effects of new media on daily life and the various channels of communications.

Ms Sati started the session by apprising the students about the change brought by the global use of the internet and the way it has empowered individuals and enabled them to educate themselves. Ms Sati also shared the success stories of a few companies and how they used new media as a tool to rise to power.Before concluding the session, Ms Sati cleared all the doubts of the students regarding the new teaching methodology and assured them a great learning experience through online teaching.

The subject - 'Basics of Radio programming and Production' was simplified for the third semester students on August 5. Ms Sukriti Arora and Ms Tinam Borah, Assistant Professors, DME, conducted a lecture to explain the subject.

The session began with the introduction of radio, its working and its role in spreading information. Ms Arora and Ms Borah also shed light on how radio has withstood in competition with other media. They asserted that radio is the most loved medium and digital media has further added to its inexpensive nature and ease of accessibility.The important role of radio in the pre and post-independence era was discussed. The two faculty members concluded the session discussing the technical, production, programming and other aspects of radio.

The session was delivered by Mr Sumantra Sarathi Das, Assistant Professor, DME on August 6.Mr Das introduced students to the basics of video editing. He emphasised on the need of skillful

On the third day IAMCR Webinar Series, Keynote Speaker Prof. Graham Murdock, (Emeritus Professor of Culture and Economy, Department of Social Sciences at Loughborough University, UK) discussed Virtual Ethnography: Promises and Problems. Prof. Biswajit said “we are living in a pivotal digital period and we cannot deconstruct our institutes but create a lot more institutes to move forward”.

Prof. Ujjwal through a presentation explained the various dimensions of ethnography which was professionally elaborated by Prof. Murdock. “Ethnography of news production is a zone of conflict” said Prof. Murdock while explaining the key moments. Another important aspect is collecting material. “It is important to record conversations and have group discussions to paint a particular picture”, added Prof. Murdock. “Virtual Ethnography is useful but it raises many ethical limitations and people are not a resource to exploit” said Prof Murdock as it is not concrete information.

After a deliberate and pin point discussion on Classical and Digital Ethnography, the session ended with Prof. Ujjwal and Dr Uma Shankar taking questions from the audience while Prof. Murdock answering the questions to the comprehension of inquisitive participants.

While describing Kenya as pioneer in mobile banking he talked about the everyday media cultures in Africa and shared the story of a young driver from Kenya who uses mobile phone as a tool to connect with his customers.

The fourth day of the India Webinar Series on Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) was graced by the presence of Prof. Thomas Tufte, Loughborough University, London who shared his illuminating insights on the topic 'Mobile Phones in Everyday Life'. The session was chaired by Professor Sunil Kanta Behera, Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University who embellished the session with his knowledge.

He further unfolded the changes in media landscapes and the embedment of mobile use in the practices of everyday life while mentioning various African audience studies on decolonizing, de-essentializing, provincializing and also shared some of his own studies on Ethnography, Empowerment and Civic Engagement.Prof. Thomas emphasized on the need of practice approach in media studies and also claimed that people are really entangled in terms of practice approach.“We are more social centric rather than media centric, our interest is more in the people and what they do with the media” said professor Thomas while elucidating on Ethnographic Action Research. Professor Thomas then talked about the critical perspectives upon new media and social change in the global South before discussing the findings of his research.Prof. Sunil Behera talked about the surge in the use of mobile phones and internet in India due to the cheap data rates offered by few service providers, he also discussed the nuances of media usage and media consumption.The session was followed by a question and answer round where professors and research scholars from various national and international universities raised queries which were answered by Prof. Tufte.

Jennita talked about her keen interest in the field of research. She has presented various research papers and also won the 'Best Paper Presenter' award in ICAN-2. Kushagrata and Priyanka, both being an integral part of the DME Media School Newsletter committee, discussed the recent changes in the newsletter and the working of the team. They appreciated the implementation of fortnightly issues and the opportunity to write more.

Rohit, who is more inclined towards social work, revealed his practice of filing RTIs to gather information for the welfare of the masses. He also spoke about the support he receives from his family and friends.With parents being a lightning-rod to these students, the teachers were not far away from earning that title, as all the students had heart-warming things to say about them.

They both talked about having a single best-friend, who pushes them to do more and grow as a person. Kushagrata expressed her desire to pursue advertising, while Priyanka mentioned her interest in storytelling.

The eighth episode of 'Face2Face' witnessed presence of Valentina Rawat (outgoing batch), Somya Bhaskar (third year) and Aakriti Singh (second year) having an informal chit-chat with Dr Ambrish Saxena, Dean, DME Media School on August 14, 2020.The episode began with the introduction of the students and their interests, ambitions and campus life experiences. The students shared their desire to pursue different fields of Media and their gratitude for DME in helping them learn more and explore their interests. They also talked about their hobbies. While Valentina sang a song to showcase her

singing skills, Somya displayed her talents by presenting a few paintings. The students further shared their experience of the lockdown period and mentioned the new skills they learnt. Aakriti talked about her passion for dance and willingness to be a choreographer. She also mentioned about her keen interest in anchoring.The three students also shared stories about the support of their family and friend. They stated the importance of maintaining good relations with people and valuing different opinions.
