INSIDE THIS ISSUE: School News Campus Ministry Homecoming PTO Comet Sightings Giving to BK Calendar LASALLIAN TRADITION Diocese of Tulsa Bale of the Bishops! When I introduce myself, and say “Hi, I’m Father Brian O’Brien,” what I oſten get back are comments about my name. A common sarcasc response is, “That’s a nice German name.” O’Brien is as Irish as it gets and I even have a degree from Notre Dame, but when it comes to Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School from Oklahoma City, I am not a fan! Sure, we’re friends, but when we’re in compeon, it’s all business! Well, in response to a lower than low alumni giving rate here at Bishop Kelley (3.5% of our alumni giving back to the school), we’ve instuted the alumni “Bale of Bishops.” Between now and the BK/McGuinness basketball game on January 16, 2015, the school with the highest percentage of alumni giving will win. The president of the losing school has to wear the other team’s shirt during the game. While I know that my best color is black, my second best color is Bishop Kelley red. I look terri- ble in McGuinness green, so please don’t make me wear it! If you are an alumnus of Bishop Kelley, or know anyone who is, please tell them about our bale. If you are not an alumnus, WE STILL NEED YOU! The “Believe in Kelley” Annual Fund is going toward much needed tuion assistance and funding campus improvements including drainage, security, outdoor tables, and landscap- ing. All will make Bishop Kelley a beer place to go to school. Your help is greatly appreciated. You can make a giſt by following this link: hps://www.bishopkelley.org/give. Also, please spread the word about our first placement test for 8th graders. It’s Saturday, November 1, and families can register online at BishopKelley.org. Our next test will be January 10. Thanks for your prayers and support! In Christ, Rev. Brian O’Brien President P.S.—Seriously, I look horrible in green.

LASALLIAN TRADITION

Diocese of Tulsa

Battle of the Bishops!

When I introduce myself, and say “Hi, I’m Father Brian O’Brien,” what I often get back are comments about my name. A common sarcastic response is, “That’s a nice German name.” O’Brien is as Irish as it gets and I even have a degree from Notre Dame, but when it comes to Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School from Oklahoma City, I am not a fan! Sure, we’re friends, but when we’re in competition, it’s all business! Well, in response to a lower than low alumni giving rate here at Bishop Kelley (3.5% of our alumni giving back to the school), we’ve instituted the alumni “Battle of Bishops.”

Between now and the BK/McGuinness basketball game on January 16, 2015, the school with the highest percentage of alumni giving will win. The president of the losing school has to wear the other team’s shirt during the game. While I know that my best color is black, my second best color is Bishop Kelley red. I look terri-ble in McGuinness green, so please don’t make me wear it!

If you are an alumnus of Bishop Kelley, or know anyone who is, please tell them about our battle. If you are not an alumnus, WE STILL NEED YOU! The “Believe in Kelley” Annual Fund is going toward much needed tuition assistance and funding campus improvements including drainage, security, outdoor tables, and landscap-ing. All will make Bishop Kelley a better place to go to school. Your help is greatly appreciated. You can make a gift by following this link:

Also, please spread the word about our first placement test for 8th graders. It’s Saturday, November 1, and families can register online at BishopKelley.org. Our next test will be January 10. Thanks for your prayers and support!

In Christ,

Rev. Brian O’Brien

GO for Catholic Schools

Did you know that you can get tax credits for donating to fund Catholic school

scholarships? Check out www.GOforCatholicSchools.com to learn more about how you can

provide scholarships for students attending a Catholic school in the Diocese of Tulsa at a very low

net cost to you.

GO for Catholic Schools, Inc. (“GO”) is a scholarship granting organization established in

compliance with a new tax credit scholarship law in Oklahoma to help make a Catholic school edu-

cation more affordable and accessible for all children. What makes GO such an attractive tool for

you is that individuals, married couples and businesses receive a state income tax credit

worth up to 50% of the amount of their contribution to GO! That tax credit, especially when

combined with the charitable contribution deduction, dramatically lowers the net cost of your con-

tribution to GO.

PAGE 17

GO Can Help:

Fill the seats of current Catholic schools to capacity by serving students with financial need that desire

a Catholic school education.

Lessen the burden of families that are currently struggling to afford a Catholic school education.

Decrease the subsidy required of parishes that sponsor Catholic schools.

Create a new model for financing Catholic schools that recognizes the value of a Catholic school to the

larger community.

Create a platform for growth for Catholic schools to serve a greater number of families and students

across the Diocese and in new locations.

Empower parents to be able to choose the educational platform that best fits the needs of their chil-

dren.

Improve education and formation outcomes for students in northeastern Oklahoma.

Contribute to the sustainability, growth and prosperity of our economy and culture by making a high-

quality Catholic school education more widely available.

Empower other programs that support Catholic schools (Saint Francis of Assisi Tuition Assistance Trust,

Friends of Catholic Education, individual school endowments, parish subsidies, etc.) to go farther, to fo-

cus on other levels of need, or to be redirected to other priorities that will ensure the long-term success

of our Catholic schools for generations to come.

Let’s GO Catholic Schools!
