‘BLACK MARLIN HUNT’ - OUT OF MALINDI, WATAMU AND NORTH KENYA BANKS ........................... Africa-Angler.com, in association with our partners in Kenya, is proud to promote our sport-fishing organisation for the Hunt for Black Marlin off the beautiful Kenyan coast. This destination is for hardcore, big game anglers who can handle 10hrs fishing each day and will test some of your physical capacities. The best fishing time for these huge beasts is from July to September. Every year at the beginning of July through to mid/end September we have a massive migration of Black Marlin arriving onto the Watamu Reefs. This is prime time for Black Marlin as well as plenty of Tuna, Kingfish, Sailfish, Giant Trevally, enormous Barracuda and Wahoo. As a group trip, we are able to target Black Marlin with trolling and spinning gear. Most of the time will be spent trolling live or deadbaits and using teasers to bring Marlin and Sailfish to the back of the boat to be cast at with spinning gear. We can also opt for a two day excursion way out to the North Kenya Banks to target huge Yellowfin Tuna and more Marlin.

‘BLACK MARLIN HUNT’ - OUT OF MALINDI, WATAMU AND NORTH

KENYA BANKS ...........................

Africa-Angler.com, in association with our partners in Kenya, is proud to

promote our sport-fishing organisation for the Hunt for Black Marlin off

the beautiful Kenyan coast.

This destination is for hardcore, big game anglers who can handle 10hrs

fishing each day and will test some of your physical capacities. The best

fishing time for these huge beasts is from July to September.

Every year at the beginning of July through to mid/end September we

have a massive migration of Black Marlin arriving onto the Watamu

Reefs. This is prime time for Black Marlin as well as plenty of Tuna,

Kingfish, Sailfish, Giant Trevally, enormous Barracuda and Wahoo.

As a group trip, we are able to target Black Marlin with trolling and

spinning gear. Most of the time will be spent trolling live or deadbaits

and using teasers to bring Marlin and Sailfish to the back of the boat to

be cast at with spinning gear.

We can also opt for a two day excursion way out to the North Kenya

Banks to target huge Yellowfin Tuna and more Marlin.

THE FISHING

As well as the classic trolling techniques used with lures, strip-baits

and livebaits to catch Marlin, Sailfish and Yellowfin Tuna, we will also

focus on the more exciting methods like switch and spincasting for

these fast, powerful predators.

We do not use hooks in our teasers so anglers will be able to cast

right in front of these ‘wound-up’ angry billfish and hook them

within feet from the boat!

This is also a very effective way to catch these pelagics on a fly rod.

Kenya provides us with plenty of great possibilities with a whole load

of different methods for big game fishing.

TACKLE TALK

All heavy trolling and spinning gear, tackle and baits are supplied

(except fly fishing gear). However should anglers like to bring some

of their own gear to use, please feel free.

We would suggest only the following outfits:

Stand-up gear for Tuna, GTs, Barracuda, King Fish, Wahoo etc. 30-

50lb rods and either hardcore spinning or baitcasing reels with 50-

80lb braid.

Heavy duty 14wt double handled fly outfits can be use to cast top

teased-up fish behind the boat. This is a fantastic and exciting way to

fish.

Bring an assortment of lures to play with too, like poppers, jigs, deep

divers etc.

CLOTHES

We recommend clients follow the list of items below to keep it

simple and as lightweight as possible, so only one or two changes of

clothes are needed. Clothes here in general are shorts or long pants,

a shirt, a fleece for windy, cooler weather, a cap and a wide

brimmed hat!! One change of clothes can be used for travelling.

For travelling:

1 x pair lightweight shoes, socks, underwear, light jacket, 1 x light

shirt and long cargo pants with pockets for documents, money,

passport etc. This outfit can also serve as fishing clothes to save on

additional weight.

For fishing:

1 x wide brimmed hat or fishing cap with neck cape, 2 x lightweight

shorts or long pants (zip-off’s are a good idea and can also be used

as travel pants), 2 x lightweight, long or short-sleeved shirts with

pockets (can also be used as travel shirt), 1 x pair of either CROCS,

sandals or similar comfortable boat shoes, 1 x fleece, fishing gloves,

1 x lightweight rain suit/jacket and 2 x pairs of polarised sunglasses

(in case you lose one pair).

OTHER RECOMMENDED GEAR

It gets hot out there in the full sun, often over 90ᵒC, so come well

protected with good-quality sun-block with at least 50-75 SPF. Lip

cream is essential.

Bring any personal medications and allow for headaches, stomach

upsets, fevers, infections, allergies etc. And also personal toiletries,

shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving gear etc. A small amount

of talcum powder is a good asset in the jungle for those hidden,

sweaty areas!

Reading books/magazines/Kindle, pen and paper for notes.

Small torch/headlight and spare batteries for night fishing.

Camera(s), batteries etc.
