SCHOOL PHOTOS Just a remainder that school photo day is Wednesday 23

rd March. Pre-paid envelopes went home this week. Full

summer uniform should be worn by all students on that day. We understand with the changeover of uniforms that students in each class will be wearing both the new and old uniforms. The photographers will organise the students to gain the best possible photo for each class.

BLACKTOWN FESTIVAL of PERFORMING ARTS The senior choir will be attending the Blacktown Festival of Performing Arts Concert later in the year (formerly known as the Blacktown Music Festival). The first rehearsal for that concert is Wednesday 16

th March. The Senior Choir can only

take the first 35 students who have paid either their $7:00 for this rehearsal or $21:00 for all three rehearsals. The first rehearsal does unfortunately clash with the Stage 3 Harmony Day excursion to Evans; however, the Choir students should attend the festival rehearsal as the priority.

SRC EGG COMPETITION The SRC Easter Egg completion invitation went home yesterday to all students. If your child would like to participate they need to create and decorate an Easter Egg. Once they have their Easter Egg, they complete the entry form on the bottom of the competition letter and bring the Egg, the form and a gold coin donation to school. Entries close on Monday 21

st March 2016.

ANZAC DAY Blacktown West will be holding their annual Anzac Day Assembly next Term. The Assembly will be held on Monday, 2

nd

May in our school hall and all parents are welcome to attend. More information about times will be sent home closer to the date.

BWPS “Safer Internet Day”

During February, to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016, all BWPS students discussed ways to be safe on the internet at school and at home. Students in Years 3 to 6 posted comments on a school blog about internet safety. All school computers are filtered to provide safe access for students. DoE computers are filtered by a company called Blue Coat. The same company offers a free home filtering service to keep children safe when on the internet at home. K9 Web Protection is a free web filter and parental control software for home Windows or Mac computers. If you wish to find out more about their offer, please visit: http://www1.k9webprotection.com/

Nashita says: I use the internet safely. My mum and dad have rules such as no talking to strangers, no looking at

rude things and only using apps for my friends. At BWPS, we make sure we don't send anything

rude, scary or unkind and make sure that we don't talk to strangers. The internet would be a better

place if everyone used it correctly for good reasons.

Jake says: I use the internet for playing games, messaging people and face timing people. I have to ask

before going on the internet. Tell the teacher if something is inappropriate.

Sanah says: Be safe on the internet. Be smart, play your part. Never give your personal details online. Never

go on the internet without the teacher's permission. Make sure someone is monitoring you while

you're online.

Sammy says: NEVER listen to someone who might say they are your age or any other age. Only talk if you

have met them in REAL LIFE and can TRUST them.

Madison says: Never put personal information on the internet.

Connor says: Don't become friends with strangers or organise a place to meet.

Walima says: If you see anyone cyber bullying you should firstly tell them to stop. Secondly, go and tell a

trusted and respected grown-up about it.

Natania says: Being safe at school and at home on the internet is very important. But it's easy to follow the

rules. All you have to do is report anything rude, scary or unkind. Easy peezy !!!

Senara says: Being safe on the internet is really important. At home I have rules like if I see something rude I

should always tell my mum and dad!
