There will be no music gala this year on Friday night, Oct. 1. This will allow alumni to attend the homecoming football game against Lockwood. All alumni are encouraged to attend the Homecoming Parade. Don’t forget to look for the recognized classes ending in “0” and “5” displays in downtown windows. Campbells inducted into Hall of Fame Delbert and Elaine Campbell were in- ducted into the “Educator’s Hall of Fame” at the annual alumni banquet. They have a combined total of 71 years of teaching experience in positions that spanned from kindergarten through grade 12. Delbert has overseen more than 25,000 industrial arts projects, attended more than 100 in- dustrial arts fairs with multiple SCA/Dis- trict and State awards. Elaine has led the enrichment program students to the Odys- sey of the Mind World finals. Elaine was the first enrichment teacher in the Houston Schools and, through grants, established the A+ program of which she was the co- ordinator. She was a curriculum director and facilitated the first access to the In- structional Television (ITV) system. She was the school’s first technology director and established the first computer system in the Houston Schools. Elaine established the first elementary library in the Houston School. Elaine and Delbert both began their Houston teaching career in 1970. Del- bert had taught one year at Hartville, and Elaine had taught two years at Plato. Since retirement, Delbert and Elaine have continued to be active in the commu- nity. Elaine’s involvement includes: City of Houston, development director; Texas County Retired Teachers, Peace Chapel Church music and Sunday school teach- er, Gamma Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Houston Community Better- ment, Texas County Rehabilitation Board, The Brushy Creek Trail and Village Trail, ACHIEVE--Fit in Houston, Imagination Library, Houston Chamber of Commerce and playing with her grandchildren. Changes to alumni activitiesFor those planning to attend alumni ac-

tivities on Oct. 1 - 2, you will notice some changes.

There will be no music gala this year on Friday night, Oct. 1. This will allow alumni to attend the homecoming football game against Lockwood.

All alumni are encouraged to attend the Homecoming Parade. Don’t forget to look for the recognized classes ending in “0” and “5” displays in downtown windows.

The Saturday morning breakfast on Oct. 2 at the Houston Senior Center will be the same.

An alumni expanded mixer is sched-uled to begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. at Houston High School Hiett Gym. There is no banquet planned for this year. This new time frame will allow oppor-tunity for visiting among classes and for individual class reunions in the evening.

At 3 p.m., a short program will be held for alumni updates and scholarship infor-mation. All classes ending in “0” and “5” will be recognized at this time. Please se-lect someone to speak for your class.

There will be no teacher inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame this year due to the lack of nominations. There will be no special recognition of past student

Delbert and Elaine Campbell were in-ducted into the “Educator’s Hall of Fame” at the annual alumni banquet. Stanley, class of 1937, and Hazel Mill-er Hicks, class of 1939, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary March 2, 2010. They have four children: Richard, Rita, Rowena and Rose.

Lloyd, class of 1939, and Bernetta Julien Willis, class of 1941, celebrated their 68th anniversary with a dinner in the home of Buck and Jane Wade on August 14, 2009. They have four children: Sue, Jerry, Danny, and Carol, who is deceased.

W. T. “Ted” and Lorene Shelton Scheets, class of 1940, celebrated their 65th anniversary at a reception on Sept. 6, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Houston. They have three children: Hel-en Branson, Ila Jean Farris, and Bruce Scheets.

George and Ruthlea Eberhart Bouch-er, class of 1941, celebrated their 64th an-niversary on Feb. 23, 2010, with family and friends at their home in Indio, Calif.

Wilburn, class of 1946, and Imogene Martin Elmore celebrated their 60th an-niversary on March 18, 2010, with a fam-ily celebration. They have one son, Marty

Ray and Ruby McKinney Smith, class of 1947, celebrated their 60th anni-versary on April 25, 2010.

Bill and Ima Jean Norris Randall, class of 1948, celebrated their 60th anni-versary on October 22, 2009. They have three children: Kathy Wilson, Gary Ran-dall and Kent Randall.

John, class of 1947, and Marie Grose Beller, class of 1951, celebrated their 60th anniversary with a reception at the Cabool Christian Church on June 27, 2010.

Herbert, class of 1955, and Jane Per-ryman Kirkwood, class of 1956, cel-ebrated their 54th anniversary on June 24, 2010, at their home in Houston.

Charles and Gene Graham Garrison, class of 1956, celebrated their 50th an-niversary on February 22, 2009, with an open house in Purdy, Mo., hosted by their

children Greg and Anita Garrison, Moun-tainburg, Ark., and Lisa and Rich Bran-ham, Springfield, Mo.

Ancil and Marilyn Magnuson Crewse, class of 1956, celebrated their 50th anni-versary on April 3, 2010, at the Number One Free Will Baptist Church at Huggins. They have three daughters: Carolyn, Ja-nett, and Loretta.

Keith and Rosemary Ragain Walls, class of 1958, celebrated their 50th an-niversary on Sept. 6, 2009, at the Second Baptist Church in Cabool. They have three children: Dearl, Erica and Lesley.

Charles and Anna Belle Sillyman Ward, class of 1951, celebrated their 50th anniversary with an open house at the Houston Senior Center on June 19, 2010.

Lynn, class of 1954, and Dona Wheel-er celebrated their 50th anniversary with a reception on Oct. 10, 2009, at the Lions Club, north of Houston. They have five children: Rick Wheeler, Robert Wheeler, Tamara Gregory, Patty Jones and Roger Wheeler.

David, class of 1959, and Joyce Beale

Pfister, class of 1959, celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 29, 2009, at the Grand Victorian Hotel in Branson. They have three children: Paula Baker, Steve Pfister, and Karen Nelson.

Ronald, class of 1959, and Mary Emack Elliott celebrated their 50th anni-versary with an open house at the Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., on June 17, 2010 They have three children: Rhonda Tindell, Tammy Richardson, and Tim Elliott.

Richard, class of 1959, and Patricia Lee Hicks, class of 1960, celebrated their 50th anniversary with a reception at Unit-ed Method church in Houston on July 3, 2010.

Jim, class of 1969, and Jo Holland celebrated their 40th anniversary on June 12, 2010. They have four children: Jen-nie Simpson, Julie Allen, Jody Miller and Jamey Holland.

July 27.Loran Ichord Richardson, class of

2002, will serve as director of volleyball operations at Texas Tech. She will also be pursuing her master’s degree in higher education. She was head volleyball coach at Clinton High School from 2006-08 before serving one year as a graduate assistant at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.

Andrew St. John, class of 2002, was sworn in as a fireman for the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. He has been a weather spotter, served as volunteer with Texas County Rescue and is a 10-year veteran of the Houston Rural and City Fire departments. He recently worked as an EMT for Texas County Memorial Hospital.

Specialist Charles “Jonathan” Smith, class of 2002, graduated with honors for AIT in generator repair at Fort Lee, Va. In

the Army National Guard.Jerra Jones, class of 2003, graduated

from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. and is employed at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Nathan Sanders, class of 2006, graduated from Wyoming Tech, Laramie, Wyo., with an associate degree in business and an associate degree in diesel technology. He is one of a long line of Houston High School Alumni: his siblings, parents, grandparents and great-grandmother.

Spc. Adam Suda, class of 2008, was recognized by the 3-139th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment’s command sergeant major of the 1/82nd A i r b o r n e Division, Suda, for his quick action while securing an incident scene in Iraq. He is deployed with the 1139th Military Police Co. Of Harrisonville for a yearlong tour overseas.

’30sEdna K. Johnson Duff, class of 1931,

celebrated her 95th birthday Nov. 13, 2009, at the Houston Senior Center. She was born at Raymondville and has been a life-long resident of Texas County. She is the widow of Willam H. Duff, also a life-long resident of the county. She has two children: Deanna Johnson and Dr. Michael Duff.

Mildred Fourt Melton, class of 1938, celebrated her 90th birthday at the United Methodist church in Houston.

’40sRussell Koch, class of 1943, was

among the World War II veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington, D. C. It was a very impressive trip — a very full day but well organized and administered. He was accompanied by his granddaughter, Alesha.

Joye Flower, class of 1943, was recently recognized for 50 years as a Master Mason.

Joe E. Richardson II, class of 1944, received recognition for the life-long support he has provided conservation organizations and programs in Texas County with the first annual Joe E. Richardson II Youth Bird Hunt. The event was conducted by the Piney River Covey of Quail Forever and Cackle Creek Hunting Ranch near Licking.

Edgar and Marge Flowers Rust and Albert and Beulah Faye Harris Courtney were the only members of the class of ’45 that married a fellow classmate. The Rust’s have been married 63 years and the Courtney’s have been married 60 years. That must have been a good year!

William E. Gladden, class of 1946, was honored by Intercounty Electric for 40 years of service with the cooperative as legal consultant. He has served in the general practice of law for 56 years. He has been married to his wife, Vera, for 52 years and they have five children: Ed Gladden, Diana Ramaeker, Linda Gladden, Susanne McChesney and Andrew Gladden.

Bonnie Jackson Carter, class of 1949, was honored with the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization’s annual banquet. Her teaching career continues today as she tutors students. She retired from public education in 1994.

’50sNadine Kiser Ballard, class of 1951,

and Chester Herndon, class of 1949, along with Jeannie Stringer entertained at the Houston Senior Center. Nadine plays violin and Chester plays guitar.

Marlene Dixon Collins, class of 1959, was named as July 2009 employee of the month at Texas County Memorial Hospital. She started work at TCMH in 1985. She has filled several positions at

the hospital, one of which was manager of the dietary department.

’60sSharon Holder Meusch, class of

1960, was honored for her commitment to the Russell House, where she worked in helping to raise the funds needed to open the first shelter for abused women in 1994. She has served on the board of directors and is currently executive director of Russell House. A recent addition to the shelter was named in her honor.

Gayla Romines Bratton, class of 1962, along with her husband, Richard, were honored by the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce as one of the outstanding businesses for 2009. They are owners of Infinite Entertainment.

Charles McKinney, class of 1966, was awarded an Adult Leadership Award at the Missouri Community Betterment Conference in Jefferson City. He served as president of the Houston Community Betterment and Arts Council. He and his wife shared a love for metalworking and achieved national success and acclaim with their combined efforts. In Houston, their work graces The Bank of Houston, Grand Avenue, Lone Star Plaza and several businesses throughout town. From Marian’s drawing board the designs go to Charlie’s forge and are crafted by his experienced hands.

Nancy Kelly Fisher, class of 1967, was named the June employee of the month at Texas County Memorial Hospital. She is worked at the hospital for 10 years in various departments.

Beth Ijames Burch, class of 1968, was named as “Lion of the Year” by the Houston Lions Club for her outstanding efforts to the eyeglass program administered by the local chapter.

Clydie Jr. “Bud” Evans, class of 1969, and his wife Linda, purchased the Oakwood Golf and Recreation east of Houston. The 68-acre property was purchased from Gordon and Carolyn Ziegler of Washington, Mo., who have operated the course since 1991.

Dr. Howell Burkhead, class of 1969, impressed the crowd at the Area 10 Missouri Retired Teachers’ fall meeting with his impersonation of Mark Twain.

’70sDebbie Hill Southern, class of

1972, is a new member of the Houston Educational Foundation. The group was organized to promote excellence and opportunity beyond the scope of normal school funding by generating financial resources from private funds.

Deborah Durbin, class of 1973, retired from federal service after more than 32 years. In her employment with Office of Inspector General, she has climbed grain bins in Kansas and Montana, audited daycares in Utah, inspected ships in port at New Orleans

and counted cows during the dairy buy-out program. She has a degree in accounting from Missouri State University.

Col. Larry McCallister, has retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of honorable military service as he relinquished command of the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Ala. He and his family are moving to Alaska, where he will serve as the director of programs and project management with the Alaska district.

LeAnn McKinney Edington, class of 1975, completed 31 years with the Houston Elementary School. She retired at the end of the school year with 18 years as a teacher and the past 13 years as principal.

Ginger Rees Copeland, class of 1975, has owned and operated Alpha Reporting Service for 29 years. She was recently featured in the Springfield Business Journal. She has added video conferencing to her court reporting services.

Mary Lilly Smith, class of 1976, is currently serving as the economic development director for the City of Springfield.

Molly Montgomery Stephens, class of 1977, retired from the City Utilities, Springfield, Mo. She completed 30 years of service in the finance department.

Barb McKinney Head, class of 1978, was recognized for being number six out of 1,136 agents in sales for April in the Re/Max St. Louis region. She is broker/owner of Re/Max Farm & Homes Realty in Houston.

Miles James, class of 1978, has been a PrimeVest financial professional at Landmark Bank for the past 13 years. He was recently recognized for his achievements in meeting the production criteria for the Million Dollar Round Table at the national conference in New Orleans.

Sharon Boesl Horbyk, class of 1979, has been named executive director of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce.

’80sDr. Ed Williamson, class of 1981,

has been appointed as the associate director of the school of education and child development at Drury University. His main duties will be working with Drury satellite campuses in Licking, Cabool, Ava, Thayer, Rolla, Lebanon and St. Robert. He will continue as an associate professor of education and child development in addition to his new appointment.

Karla Rust, class of 1984, who owns a bakery in Ozark, was featured in conjunction with the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon in Springfield. A cake she made was displayed and she was interviewed on KY3.

Shari Sillyman McCallister, class of

1987, owner of D & L Florist, presented approximately $202 in donations to the TCMH Healthcare Foundation Hospice of Care fund. The donations were collected from customers at D & L voting on their favorite Christmas trees during the Christmas open house. D & L Florist also celebrated its 20th anniversary in business on April 20, 2010.

Rachel Crawford Johnson, class of 1989, recently received a master’s degree in fine arts in creative nonfiction writing from Murray State University in Murray, Ky. She now lives in Florida and teaches at Brevard Community College and Florida Tech.

’90sJulee Gaston Chipps, is the new

administrative assistant for the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce.

Brittany Crawford Gaines, class of 1992, recently received a master’s degree in secondary counseling from MSU in Springfield.

Leann Vandivort Boyd, class of 1992, is among those nominated by 417 Magazine as the “10 Most Beautiful Women” in the publications’ circulation area. She resides in Battlefield and is a clothes designer.

Shara Walker Gamble, class of 1994, has been named director of human resources for the Joplin-based Tamko Building Products. She joined the company in 2006. She is an MSU graduate with degrees in accounting and management.

Tyson Troutman, class of 1996, won the Factory Stock A Feature recently at Lebanon Midway Speedway’s fifth annual Coca-Cola Classic Fall Brawl.

Curtis Tipton, class of 1997, is band director at Parkview High School in Springfield. One of his students was selected from among 1,300 asked to audition for a spot-playing trumpet in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

Sara Jensen Edwards, class of 1997, has completed her doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. She is employed at Mountain Grove School.

Staff Sgt. Chris Kell, class of 1998, has been in the National Guard since 2001 and was recently deployed for his second tour of duty to Kuwait.

Mandy McKinney Huff, class of 1998, graduated summa cum laude from Drury University earning her master’s degree in educational/instructional technology. She is an educator in Marshfield School District.

Oneta Ross Arehart, class of 1939, died Sept. 17, 2006; in Omaha, Neb. She has one son, David, and one daughter, Lynn, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Wade Brown, class of 1940, died July 13, 2008. He had lived and farmed in the Solo community for most of his life.

Carlos E. Elmore, class of 1943, died May 31, 2009. He operated his own auto repair garage for 15 years, and then taught auto mechanics at Houston High School for 24 years. Carlos was in the U.S. Army, serving his country from April 1943 to De-cember 1945. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a POW in Germany for the remainder of the war. He received the American Theater Service Ribbon, Eu-ropean African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Geraldine Williams Balding, class of 1944, died June 1, 2009

Jerry Lee Stilley, class of 1962, died June 24, 2009. He received a refrigeration certification from Graff Votech School, then voluntarily joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War in January 1965 and was medically retired from service in March 1966. He made his living working in the Houston community.

Dorothy Merle Allen, class of 1945, died June 28, 2009.

Lewis William Randall, class of 1935, died June 26, 2009. He farmed in Ne-braska until he entered the Coast Guard on Oct. 13, 1942. He was stationed at Cur-tis Bay, Md. He was later assigned to the USS Hutchinson and served two years in the South Pacific and Philippines. He was honorably discharged Feb. 12, 1946. He at-tended National Railroad College in 1951 at Omaha, Neb., and upon completion, worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Wyo-ming. After two years, he moved to Kansas and was territorial equipment manager for Richardson Manufacturing. In 1969, he moved to Blackwell, Okla., and managed Long’s John Deere. He retired in 1984 and enjoyed farming, working with cattle and other farm-related projects.

Beulah Mae Romines Byford, class of 1951, died July 2, 2009.

Edward “Eddie” James Moore, class of 1962, died July 31, 2009. He briefly attended The School of the Ozarks. He worked at International Shoe Co. un-til it closed. He then moved to St. Louis and worked at McDonnell Aircraft for six years, having received a zero defect award. He moved back to Houston to work with his dad, building houses. He purchased a farm in the Dykes community and in 1977 went into the dairy business. His dairy herd placed in the top 10 on the D.H.I.A. in Tex-as County for several years, also receiving the Outstanding Milk Quality Award two years in a row from AMPI. In 1986, they received the Farm Management Award and in 1987 The Missouri Farm Management state honor for Texas County. They were

also given the Honorary Chapter FFA De-gree.

Harold Keith Garrett, class of 1952, died July 19, 2009, at his home in Dixon. He worked 17 years at Waltz’s studio at Fort Leonard Wood. He then worked 41 years for Tri-County Hardware in Dixon. He was an active member of Briarwood Baptist Church near Dixon. He was an Army veteran and active in his community.

Denver Chipps, class of 1945, died Aug. 1, 2009. He was a member of the Half Rock Baptist Church. He loved horses, singing, playing the harmonica, baseball and pond fishing.

Carol Ann Willis Ingram, class of 1963, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009. She retired from AT&T following 32 years of service. She was a volunteer for several programs through her church and community activi-ties.

Euleen D. Smith Walker, class of 1943, died Sept. 6, 2009. During WWII, Euleen worked in an ammunition plant in Law-rence, Kan. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston and loved the fellowship.

Bertha Willeta Shelton Murray, class of 1941, died Sept. 18, 2009. She attended aeronautics school in Los Angeles, Calif., and built planes at the start of World War II. After three years, she returned to Texas County, where she worked at Rawlings for 36 years before retiring.

Emmitt Henry Aldridge, class of 1949, died Sept. 10, 2009. He retired as a SMS-GT after 28 years in the U. S. Air Force.

Howard Wayne Steffens, class of 1952, died Sept. 23, 2009. He served 18 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged af-ter four years. He owned a gas station for seven years and worked in construction for 33 years before retiring.

Russell Joseph Kane II, class of 2001, died Dec. 11, 2009, in Houston. He loved computers and computer gaming. He also enjoyed music and hanging out with friends.

Michael McKinney, class of 1968, died Dec. 18, 2009. He graduated from the Na-val Academy in 1972. He was deployed to the Philippines during the Vietnam conflict. In 1982, he graduated from Johns Hop-kins University with a Ph.D. in neurobio chemistry. He worked for 20 years with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Jacksonville, Fla., as a research scientist. He was accomplished with his research in fighting Alzheimer’s disease while at Mayo.

Freda Lemons, class of 1942, died Dec. 17, 2009. She and her husband farmed to-gether in the Plato area for many years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Houston.

Kathleen Kelly Fiquet, class 1943, died in December 2009. She graduated from Christian College (Columbia College) in 1945 at Columbia with an associate’s de-gree, and then completed her bachelor’s degree in education in 1947 from the Uni-versity of Missouri. She was known to her students as “Kelly,” was a physical educa-

tion teacher from 1947 to 1952. She taught at Central High School and Hosea School, both located in St. Joseph. Kathleen and her husband bought the Mumford & Hanna Insurance Agency, which became Fiquet Insurance and Realty, later known as Mc-Williams, Burnham, Dickens and Fiquet Independent Insurance Agents of St. Jo-seph, Mo. She was also the owner of Fiquet Farm and Realty, Peoples’ Home and Sav-ings, Kelly Home Decorations and Horse-shoe Lake Sports Complex.

Robert “Bob” George Rauscher, class of 1950, died Dec. 25, 2009. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 through 1956. He was stationed at Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., in 1952 and Germany in 1953 before being honorably discharged in March of 1956. He owned a construction company in St. Louis for many years and later was a salesman of Morton Building Supply.

Daniel Stiles Sr., class of 1949, died Dec. 29, 2009. He loved driving his truck, American history and reading. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Marvin Burris, class of 1949, died Jan. 5, 2010. He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1951 and was discharged in 1953. He enjoyed music, singing, dancing, camp-ing, gatherings with family and friends and helping others.

Gladys Faye Shelton Durham, class of 1939, died Jan. 10, 2010. She attended Mis-souri State Teacher’s College in Springfield and returned to teach for a short while at Cleveland School. She had a great love of caring for children, and throughout the years, she provided care for countless num-bers of children in her home, even into the last years of her life.

Freda White Spears, class of 1943, died January 19, 2010. She worked for Shaw-nee Mission Hospital from 1968 to 1988. She loved to play all types of games, espe-cially cards and dominos.

Emil William “Bill” Mueller, class of 1950, died Jan. 31, 2010. He received degrees from Southwest Baptist College, Baylor University, Southern Theological Seminary and the University of Missouri. After many years as a missionary in Liberia, West Africa, he studied clinical psychology at the U.S. International University in San Diego, Calif. He studied massage at the L.A. College of Massage in San Diego and in 1976 established the Mueller College of Holistic Studies, which he owned and di-rected until 2004. He continued teaching at the school through 2009.

Edna Campbell Busch, class of 1943, died Nov. 26, 2009. She taught at rural schools in the Texas County area.

Virginia Martin Parrish, class of 1951, died Feb. 13, 2010, in Nixa.

Ray Allen Grose, class of 1955, died Feb. 20, 2010. While attending high school, Ray raised Jersey milk cows. After graduat-ing high school, he went to work for Mis-souri Highway Department. He enjoyed raising Polled Hereford beef cattle. Ray was a Raymondville school board member

from 1973 through 1997, serving several terms as board president. He also served on the Village of Raymondville Community park Council for 35 years. Ray retired in September 1998 after 40 years with MoDot.

Fern Marie Altis Wilson, class of 1931, died Feb. 20, 2010. After high school. she attended college in the summer while teach-ing in rural schools around Texas County. In 1966, she received her bachelor of sci-ence degree from Drury College. In 1942, she was employed by the U.S. Selective Service System as clerk of Texas County Draft Board, where she was employed for 31 years.

Charles Evans McKinney, class of 1966, died Feb. 22, 2010. He was an artist blacksmith by trade and an avid gardener. He worked at a forge in St. Louis, produc-ing 105 mm howitzer shells. In 1974, he moved to Memphis and forged lamps for a lighting company.

Zola M. Kinworthy, class of 1956, died Feb. 20, 2010.

Paul Dean Miller, class of 1953, died on Feb. 25, 2010. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1960. Dean worked at the Washington State Department of Transportation as a highway and bridge inspector for 31 years.

Bobby Dewain Hall, class of 1980, died Feb. 21, 2010. He graduated as salutato-rian from Houston High School, where he received the John Phillip Sousa Award for trumpet performance. He then attended the School of the Ozarks, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was also an avid runner and ran a marathon in 2004.

Floyd James Williams, class of 1945, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. After gradu-ating from Houston High School, he moved to California and worked one year in an oil field before joining the Army. He served three years before returning to the oil fields.

Betty Jane Bennett, class of 1953, died March 2, 2010. She was an artist, crafter, home decorator and rock mason.

Doris Kathleen Blankenship, class of 1946, died March 21, 2010. She attended Draughon’s Business College in Spring-field. In 1953, Doris moved to Jefferson City and worked for the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts for 30 years. She also worked for seven years for the Missouri Veterinary Board. She retired in 1990 after serving the state for 37 years.

Edna Mae Cole Miller Jarvis, class of 1943, died March 30, 2010. In 1947, she moved to Seymour, where her family owned and operated Miller’s Café for 17 years.

Wayne Rust, class of 1938, died April 12, 2010. He was a truck driver most of his life. He spent two years with the Cabool Police Department in the 1950s.

Treva May Crawford West, class of 1944, died April 19, 2010. She and her husband operated canned milk routes. She

worked other jobs, including the dietary de-partment at Texas County Memorial Hos-pital.

James Arthur, class of 1958, died April 24, 2010, at Landmark Hospital at Joplin. He worked as a merchant seaman on the Great Lakes, employed on the Ford Motor Company assembly line, truck driver and owned and operated a laundry business in Houston.

Bertha Boster Wantland, class of 1954, died April 28, 2010. After graduation, she married and moved to St. Louis and lived there the remainder of her life.

Wilma P. Randall Ballard, class of 1939, died May 3, 2010. She was a retired bookkeeper and prepared income taxes for many years.

Lou Ella Roderick Bosworth, class of 1948, died May 14, 2010. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, word puzzles, cooking, quilting, collect-ing cookbooks and cookie jars and going to garage sales. She loved spending time with her family.

Billy Joe Brown, class of 1957, died May 17, 2010. He was retired from the Air Force and a member of the Masonic

Lodge.Donna Hutsell Kornegay, class of

1968, died May 25, 2010. She was an ac-counting clerk with recent employment at Butterball in Mount Olive, N.C. She spent 32 years traveling with her husband to his various military assignments. When he retired in 1995, they made their home in North Carolina.

Dorothy Forinash Riddick, class of 1933, died May 28, 2010, in Virginia Beach, Va. She had four children and 11 grandchildren. Her family was a source of great pride to her. She also loved her beautiful yard and flowers. She was an avid reader and loved to read and study her Bible and Sunday school lessons.

Charles Phillip Noakes, class of 1952, died June 19, 2010, at his home in Hous-ton. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He later began a career in the aviation field at Wichita, Kan. And was later employed by McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. He became a quality control supervisor for the Atlas Missile Program, which caused him to work short-term as-signments all over the country. After com-pletion of the missle program, he returned

to Missouri, where he was employed at Ft. Leonard Wood and Nickels Pallet Mill.

Former TeachersEsther Ellen McVay, was born March

9, 1905. She died Aug. 31, 2009, at the age of 104. She taught in numerous coun-try schools in Northeast Missouri and one country school in Texas County before joining the staff of Houston High School in 1945, teaching history, government and English for the next 25 years. Following her retirement, she remained active in the community — the county library, county health department, senior citizens center and genealogy society.

JoAnne Booher, was born April 23, 1931, in Morrisville, Mo. She died Nov. 7, 2009. She received a bachelor of science degree in education in 1953 from SMS and a master’s in education in 1960 from MU. She taught high school home eco-nomics in Marionville and Houston and later at SMSU. She was a state supervisor of Vocational Home Economics for eight years. She married Kenneth Booher in 1973 and enjoyed being a full-time home-maker and mother of two sons.

Robert “Bob” Rippee, was born Dec.

20, 1944, in Cassville, Mo., and died July 15, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital, Spring-field. He received a bachelor of arts de-gree in music education from the Universi-ty of Arkansas. He taught in high school at Willow Springs, Houston and Camdenton. He retired from Camdenton Schools after 30 years as a teacher and director of bands.

Herb W. Bray, class of 1948, died July 6, 2010. He owned and operated Houston Auto Parts for many years before he retired in 1992.

Anna Lea Flowers Brackett, class of 1947, died July 12, 2010, in Waterloo, Iowa, from heart problems. She had lived in Traer, Iowa, for most of her life.

1979 football team gathers to honor teammate

Senior members of the 1979 Houston High School football team met Sat-urday at the MSHSAA football championships in St. Louis to honor team-mate Bobby Hall, who was battling cancer. The ’79 Tigers went 11-1 and finished third in the state.
