The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedi-cated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1).

Mother’s Day Blessing

God our creator, we come before You and lift up in prayer all mothers, grandmothers, stepmoth-ers and mothers-to-be who gave the gift of life. We give you thanks for their presence, talents and gifts which they share in our church, society and world. May all mothers know of Your loving and gentle presence and may they always turn towards You in times of joy, sorrow and glory. We ask this in Your Name. Amen.

Special Collection This week’s second collection supports the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). If Jesus Christ were on earth today, how would he spread his message of salvation? Wouldn’t he use all communication vehicles to share the Good News? The CCC believes Jesus would use as many means as possible, and that is why it supports projects that use the entire array of media tools available today to evangelize and promote Gos-pel values. 50% of the collection remains at the parish to promote local communication efforts, such as web-site technology and bulletins.

A Good Look at the Good Book Want to make the Bible more relevant to your daily life? On Tuesdays, May 10, 17, and 24 from 7-8pm, join Pastoral Associate Margaret Manning and Blessed Sac-rament parishioner Scott St. Louis in the Blessed Sac-rament School gym for a one-hour presentation. Top-ics will include the history and background of the Bi-ble, interpreting the Bible, and praying with the Bi-ble. Each week will be an inde-pendent presentation so come to one or come to all (no need to bring your own bible) Questions? Contact Margaret Manning at: [email protected] 508-668-4700 x1007.

Memorial Day Mass Mark your calendar for Monday, May 30 at 9am to celebrate our annual Memorial Day Mass at St. Francis

cemetery in Walpole. Memorial Day is a special day to remember our veterans as well as the deceased mem-bers of our families and friends. We recommend car-pooling and parking along Washington Street. Please bring a chair so you will be comfortable. Refresh-ments will be served after the Mass in the cemetery.

St. Vincent de Paul Today as we celebrate the feast of the Ascension we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth con-tinues through his disciples…and now through us. Pope St. John Paul II wrote: “The Church continually combats all forms of poverty, because as Mother she is concerned that each and every person be able to live fully in dignity as a child of God.” When we support the less fortunate, we help affirm their dignity as children of God. Should you need financial or social service as-sistance, want to volunteer, or to make a donation please call 508-921-1028 x 1004 or write us at SVDP, Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Dia-mond Street Walpole, MA 02081. www.blessedsacramentwalpole.org/SVDP

Seminarian Special Collection Next week’s second collection supports the formation and training of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Bos-ton for future service as priests. We are blessed that many are responding to the call to serve as priests. Please be generous and support these seminarians on their journey toward their ordination to the priest-hood.

Blessed Sacrament Parish Remember in Your Prayers

Each week during the Prayer of the Faithful at Mass, we pray for those in our community who are sick. If you have a family member whose name should be added to the prayer list, please contact Margaret Manning at [email protected] or 508-668-4700 x1007. We kindly request that only immediate family members of the sick add names to the list. Through our parish prayer line, we also remember all our shut-ins, our un-employed, our sick, our grieving, and our own parish dead . Call 508-668-2448 with our prayer intentions or to join the prayer line.

Sung Acclamations & Mass Readings During the Easter Season we will be singing the Gloria in addition to the other acclamations during the Liturgy of Eucharist. If you attend the 4pm, 8am, and 11am Masses, the music can be found in the pew hymnal, #226-228, 231, and 232 (Heritage Mass.) If you attend the 9:30am Mass, we will sing the Mass of Creation, which is not in the hymnal but is very familiar to you. You can find the words to the acclamations in the red booklets in the pews or in the hymnal starting at #146. This week you can find the Readings at page 919.

Blessed Sacrament Book Club The Book Club meets next on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30pm in the Community Room. The book selected for discussion is The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. The novel is set in motion on Sarah’s eleventh birth-day, when she is given ownership of ten year old Handful, who is to be her handmaid. We follow their remarkable journey over the next thirty-five years, as both strive for a life of their own. We always wel-come anyone who would like to discuss the books we select each month. For info, contact [email protected].

First Holy Communion Congratulations to the children of our parish who received their First Communion on Saturday! May the continual reception of this sacrament strengthen their faith and keep them close to Jesus throughout their lives. May the special blessings from this celebration draw us closer to God and inspire us to carry Jesus’ message of love and peace to our fami-ly and friends.

St. Mary Faith Formation Students’ Donations Make a Difference

This spring our St. Mary Faith Formation students con-tributed toothbrushes and toothpaste to Mil Milagros schools in Guatemala. These generous donations were brought to the schools by Mike and Alex Takacs, Walpole residents. Below is an excerpt from their thank you letter We are very grateful for the outpouring of support and donations from so many in our home town of Walpole …We collected over 1,700 toothbrushes and over 200 pounds of toothpaste! Alex and I had an amazing experience visiting 4 of the 8 schools Mil Milagros supports in providing a daily meal and basic hygiene. We met almost 500 children and many teachers and volunteer mothers who are trained by Mil Milagros staff (6 members including volun-teers). The schools we visited ranged from 27 students to 282. In the few short days we were reminded how fortunate we are and how kindness and generosity can have such a direct impact on so many beautiful lives in a beautiful country. Sincerely, Mike and Alex Takacs

Faith Formation May Crowning

What better day than today, Mother’s Day, to Honor our Blessed Mother!

As the Mother of God, the Virgin Mary has a unique po-sition among the saints, in-deed, among all creatures. She is exalted, yet still one of us. Mary embraces God's will and freely chooses to cooperate with God's grace, thereby fulfilling a crucial role in God's plan of salva-tion. The Church honors her

as the Mother of God, looks to her as a model of per-fect discipleship, and asks for her prayers to God on our behalf. The month of May is both named for and dedicated to Mary, and Catholics have long honored the Blessed Mother by placing a crown on her image. Crowning a statue of our Lord’s Mother is symbolic of the honor we give her as the one chosen by God to bear His Son, our Salvation. Mary is Queen of heaven and earth because she was the perfect follower of Christ, who is the absolute “crown” of creation. She is the Mother of the Son of God, who is the messianic King. She remained steadfast in devotion to her Son, all the way to the foot of the Cross. After the Ascen-sion, she persevered in prayer with the Church. She truly has won the “crown of righteousness”, the “crown of life”, promised to those who follow Christ. Today before the 9am Mass at St. Mary’s and the 9:30am Mass at Blessed Sacrament Parish, our First Communion children led by a newly confirmed stu-dent carrying the Statue of Mary, process in to our church carrying stems of flowers to be placed at the foot of the statue and a crown to be placed on her as the children and congregation sing joyfully in honor of our Blessed Mother.

First Communion We ask that you keep our First Communion children in your prayers as they receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist this weekend.

Blessed Sacrament School –Open House, May 10, 9-10:30am On Thursday, April 28 Blessed Sacrament School was honored to have Cardinal Seán O’Malley celebrate its 50th Anniversary Mass. Fr.Chip and Fr. Tim Kelleher concelebrated the Mass, and in attendance were Kathy Mears, Superintendant of Schools, and Maureen Heil of the Missionary Childhood Association. Cardinal Seán referenced the school’s founding by the Glen Riddle Franciscans from Philadelphia, and noted that our current principal, Jim Spillman, “is doing a wonderful job.” After Mass, the Cardinal toured our school, and he enjoyed seeing our stu-dents in action.

On Friday, April 29 Blessed Sacrament School welcomed over 350 grandparents and grandfriends as visitors to the school. The visitors were treated to a prayer service, per-formances by our talented students, and tours of class-rooms and facilities. There were lots of happy faces!
